New Woodbine Motel AKA In the Mouth of Madness Motel
I have also just learned that this motel was featured in the movie In the Mouth of Madness, a well known John Carpenter movie from 1994.
The motel seems as though it ceased operations in May of 2021.
The abandoned motel didn't look like much from the outside and the inside did not leave much to be desired either. The lobby was very simple but seemed to be reasonably clean, despite having what looked like to be some budget renovation work, the rooms upstairs however were a different story. It appeared as though they were for long term tenants since they had rather simple kitchenettes and two of the rooms had a shared communal bathroom. The outside of the doors were filthy and some of the units were just as gross, with dirty hot plates and bathrooms that looked as though they hadn't been cleaned in a long time. Back downstairs there was a living quarters that looked as though it belonged to the owner or maybe the live in operator of the motel. It too seemed to be have been furnished on a budget but it was clean and it appeared as though they left everything behind except for their clothes. There was also a full size kitchen and the refrigerator had picture of children from World Vision, I would imagine that they were kids that the owner had sponsored. There was also a note in the lobby talking about a water quality test that had revealed elevated sodium levels in the water. I am not entirely sure what will become of this property but I doubt housing is in the future because of the less than desirable area. The motel was demolished not more than two weeks after my visit.
Here are a few reviews I found from patrons over the years, with an average rating of 2.6/5, they were less than favourable.
"It's okay for a quick romp but not to stay overnight" 2/5
"The mirror was dirty, the window had a face print on it, there was an empty bottle of booze above the fridge. The water in the shower was salty, it irritated my skin badly. The receptionist was yelling at workers, when guests came up he yelled "what do you want?" He was yelling the whole time he talked to me, was not friendly at all. I won't be staying again. The room was cozy and it is a nice looking hotel though." 3/5
"Disgusting" 1/5
"Lowest of low. Cold bathroom floor. Plug in heater. $2.00 cheap pillows....you get what you pay for." 1/5
"I live here and I work here." 1/5

I know you don’t see this motel as that good but when I worked and lived at a motel a few years back, it wasn’t as nice as this one. The rooms I cleaned didn’t have kitchenettes. Mini fridges and microwaves If you were lucky. These rooms are far more spacious as well. It makes for easy living. No last months rent to pay and no credit checks. Not bad. Great video. 🇨🇦❤️🤗🙏🏻

Yes, i thought the motel was a little bit cheap and rundown at the time of filming but i still really enjoyed the explore. No doubt though that the rooms in the video were very large and spacious compared to your average hotel room. Thanks for the comment!!

Those velvet paintings were mass produced back in the 70's. We had one when I was a kid. They were all in a similar style but different scenes, some even had Elvis, lol. They all had the same frame and rectangles.

God bless you! Hi SS, that place was nasty. Wow, for that short time period, that massive web, gross bathrooms etc. it certainly was never cleaned. My thoughts exactly about sitting on that bed. Did you say that was milk in the fridge? The dishes, paintings, knickknacks were probably included with the price. Even the earrings 🤪Loved your intro & outro. You always do a great job no matter what kind of place you’re in, but your intro/outro were the best part of this. Hopefully the bedbugs didn’t bite! A friend of mine told me about people who lived in a city apartment that got infested with bedbugs from a neighboring apt. Not only did they have to move, live in a hotel until they got another place, but it cost them big bucks to replace mattresses, dry clean all their clothes etc. It was a nightmare to say the least. Thanks SS!

Wow. The packrat in me is foaming at the mouth seeing all that stuff. I drooled over that one bracelet. It might have been either sterling silver or silver plated. After watching, I wonder if those apartments/rooms you looked at may have been for employees room and board?

Honestly i don't even remember seeing a bracelet lol Sometimes these explores are so quick i don't really have a chance to take everything in. I would guess it was silver plated at best though. I don't know if I'm right, but I have seen older motels, where the owner/or manager lived there, so the rooms behind the office, may of been where the person who ran or took care of it, lived there. This is the first video of yours I've watched so in the beginning I was only guessing that you were Canadian until you found the empty Molson cans 😉 I guess once a place is in such a run-down state it would be very costly to get it back into a decent shape even if someone wanted to. Originally that back room behind the counter would have been the office and the iron gate could be locked overnight to keep people out of the owner's appartment. Depending on the office hours there would probably be an employee holding the fort overnight who would be able to knock the owner out of bed in a very major situation.

Hi James Thanks for an good Informative Video exploring I Remember those Singing fish I Think the reason they didn't Take the kitchen Items & other Things was because they Washed them in the Contaminated water that's Probably why this motel Closed Who knows if they can sort the Water out to make it safe to Drink or not? I think people got Sick either washing or drinking That water bless them I 🙏 that They're OK I don't Know its sad To see this place abandoned As A joke maybe you could find Some new batteries & see if the Other fish works lol.
@StaticSpaces
@StaticSpaces 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think the water was contaminated, it just had elevated sodium levels. That's only a problem if you are on a low salt diet, otherwise it's harmless. Unfortunately i didn't have any batteries with me at the time, oh well. Thanks for the comment!!

Enjoyed this one, a genuinely abandoned location. From those reviews you posted in your description it sounds like it hasn't changed much from when it was occupied. Wonder if either the owner died (which would explain why they left it all behind 😉) or if the flooded basement plus that notice to not drink from a tap indicated maybe contaminated water, or a structural problem. Surprising it was demolished so soon after being closed. Interesting place for sure!

Thanks for sharing another explore :) I love watching these, BUT the thing that makes me crazy-er (lol) is WASTEAGE. SO many ppl in need. Stuff should be sold CHEAP to those in need rather than going to rot or being included in demolition. Grrr, that part is always upsetting but not a thing to be done about it. I'm having to move again, across Canada, and I guarantee you anything I can't or won't be taking with me will be given away to friends, or local resource center, etc. Things are too costly to let waste, and the landfills don't need good stuff jamming them up any further. Thanks again for another explore. Watching from New Brunswick, Oh Canada :)

Always check the cash drawer..a long long time ago I use to check the concession stands on Saturday morning after the Friday night football game cause sometimes they missed a candy bar or gum once in a while…then came the morning I found several boxes of candy and all the money left in the cash drawer… I ran to the high school and found an adult to tell what I found. I was only like 9 or 10 years old there was no way I was touching that money 😂😂😂…it never happened again but I still keep looking for a couple more years before I lost interest…pretty crazy though 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
