I use to go to the race at North Wilkesboro. Sure do miss it. Instead we got another boring 1.5 mile track owned by Bruton Smith.

Lots of incredible historic moments from that place. Real shame to see it like this.

Growing up there I remember races there in the real days of NASCAR. Before the stands in Turn 1 and 2 and the backstretch suites. So wish the Smith’s would do something with it instead of just letting it fade into the ground that is already taking it over.

iRacing was somehow able to scan this track and they're going to be doing a special next Saturday on the 9th on Fox. With throwback paint schemes and all. Is this track even drivable to do it in real life?

My Uncle owns this. He let me drive my go cart on it. It was really fun. He is planning on re opening it next year! Maybe not for Nascar but for more local type racers.

They just announced racing in August on pavement then in October they race on dirt after ripping out the old pavement 😁

If Nascar bring this track back it would need a $50 to $70 million renovation plus a newly repaved track. Plus it need a top of the line sponsorship to keep it going. And add to that spend 10 to 20 million dollars for state of the art lighting system for that track.

Well it doesn't look in that bad shape. I mean, with a few millions of investment they could bring it back. The track is preatty clear also thanks to iracing.

Kick myself for not seeing a race at Wilkesboro or The Rock. Hope there's a 2nd chance out there somewhere.

If NASCAR wanted to get back on track (literally) it would write a 15 million dollar check, buy the speedway, resurface it, and rebuild the infrastructure, and put it back on the schedule. Same with Rockingham. But it makes too much sense.

Nascar abandoned good fan favorite tracks like this (also a driver favorite) to build new cookie cutter, same old mile and a half tracks that produced the same boring racing week after week chasing the almighty dollar. Some of those tracks have lost a date and they don't draw any more fans than North Wilkesboro (and Rockingham, some of the best racing ever in Nascar) could when they were open. If they'd have put a few dollars into North Wilkesboro and Rockingham, they'd have kept most of the fans they lost trying to gain the new fans that came and went in about 10 years of the boring racing. Now even places like Michigan (my closest track, I go both weekends) gets barely as many fans as these abandoned tracks did. They removed 100,000 seats because they only get 75,000 now on a good weekend. Nascar screwed up dropping some of the short tracks.

There were 3 things that made me quit anything to do with Nascar, (1) was when they left North Wilkesboro Speedway. (2) was when Earnhardt died at Daytona. (3) was when Nascar decided to go WOKE about the Confederate flag. Each one of those drove me away and I haven't watched a race since and personally I don't care if they ever come back to NWS, I'm done with Nascar forever now. Btw I quit watching MLB in '93 after the rich players decided to strike for more money and didn't play a world series that year, and the NFL and NBA is just a bunch of rich WOKE cry babies so I don't and never will watch those again either. I've found that watching local races and sports is much better and deserve my money to support them. Look fans, we have the power to control these rich people when they do stupid things, but if we let them get by with it, we will always be at their mercy.
