In this video we enter a gigantic piece of industrial abandonment - a decaying derelict power station in Northern England. Although the site has been closed down for almost 20 years, there is still a lot of interest to be had in the many layers of rusty metal machinery.

I’ve always been fascinated by these old coal fired power stations. I grew up in the shadow of the old Walsall B plant, which looked like a gargantuan monolith to my young eyes. Six massive cooling towers stood like goblets on cinder hill and the blackened ground gave it the look of the devils untidy workshop. I always wanted to see the inside of the plant but was never lucky enough to get the opportunity. I’m guessing it would’ve looked just like this one as it had stood abandoned for 5 years before finally being demolished. That was 1987.......

It’s always amazing how they build all that asbestos tents and walk ways from scratch. I have helped a mate build one for a job he did and it took all day to build then put the sheeting up on the sides etc. The fans would blow in fresh air

It is always very special! We have been neglecting abandoned industry explorations recently, but we are getting back into them again now, and yes they know what we do and are relatively comfortable with it!!;)

Glad you mentioned Asbestos on this one as it was making me nervous know how much of it can be in these places. Give me a shout if I can be of any assistance with advice on Asbestos.

I have a feeling I know where this is, as I worked there as an apprentice in 1993 / 94. One of the jobs I had to do was replace a pressure gauge on one of the turbines. It used to be extremely hot in that area, especially in the middle of summer. A lot of good people worked there, if it’s the same place, sadly some of them are probably no longer with us.

You guys do take some risks and it is fascinating to look at what these places look like and wonder how someone worked out how the whole lot fitted together to safely make power for goodness knows how many people and that we need that knowledge in order to create the next more efficient way of achieving the same thing. Also can’t help wondering if there are other simpler ways of doing it. Perhaps there aren’t.

There is a lacking of them in the UK right now, except a couple others which are kept very low-key and are very difficult to get into. If you go abroad you’ll find many good ones :)

If you want a power station to explore, Hartshead power station still has a few remaining buildings and lots to see in terms of the railway goods yard and the conveyor systems

Quality video as usual. Also can't help noticing that there's a stutter/pause in the cinematic shots, is that an editing thing or is your camera broken?

Yea haha it’s basically me being lazy and not recording long enough cinematics, so I have slo-mo’d them in order to fit with the music. It really annoys me when I don’t film long enough cines...

I don't know what it is in particular, but all the "old" power stations in the UK tend to look a bit like Battersea.
