Closed in the 1960s due to a lack of vision by our Government , this railway would today be one of the most scenic in Europe ,as it travelled along part of the ring of Kerry . Today , the same lack of vision by landowners along the route , prevents this old railway from becoming a transformed into a greenway which would attract thousands of tourists to the region .

I'm a big fan of railways and it would be great if a working railway was reinstated. It would be a massive boost economically to the area in so many ways other than tourism. Not everyone wants to travel by car, let the train take the strain. Ireland, North and South has hundreds of miles of old track that could be utilised once again to bring prosperity back.

This will be the most beautiful greenway. The scenery the route and the pure difference of terrain, makes this greenway project an absolute necessity. Lovely photography and lots of skill in this photography using a drone..well done. Missing home sooooo much!

I was under the impression that the council want to create a greenway, but the local farmers were fighting it every inch of the way, but thankfully agreement has been reached at long long last, and we will soon have the spectacular greenway!

That's great news, if it's done, I think it would be the best Greenway in the country. Well done.

the green way is going ahead, but the farmers did not have a problem with it. they just wanted some rerouting

Hi Drone Hawk, I have driven the Mountain Stage many thousands of times and have often been sorely tempted to explore on foot, the railway cuttings and tunnels, now I don't have to. Thank you for your fabulous photography not to mention your skilful flying. Perhaps one day, Our County Council and National Politicians, if they have the Vision and Courage, will bring this historic industrial infrastructure back into use for the People in the form of a Greenway🧶so that once again, this route will bring people into the Iveragh Peninsula. What a most wonderful scenic route. Imagine, if like the Welsh or Scottish, the Irish had a working Steam Locomotive back using this route daily ..... but we're not the Welsh or Scottish sadly. Not in my lifetime I'm afraid. I will save this video and the one of the Cahirciveen Viaduct to my Favourites. Please keep them coming. Eamonn C

Fascinating, and should all be restored to its original condition.. like everything in this country left to fall into oblivion...and forgotten. I didn't know any of this existed ..

Put the railway tracks back on again, its what it was intended for. Just think of the people who spilled Blood, Sweet and Tears building this amazing railway, now only used for a Sunday walk 😔

Absolutely superb! Many thanks for the video….my exploring days are over as I’m seriously disabled nowadays but with your drone videos I can at least see some of the wonderful abandoned railways in the Republic! I enjoyed your drone video showing the Barrow Bridge and this is yet another excellent offering. In time I think they’ll become classics. I look forward to seeing your presentation featuring the Burtonport Extension….some of the locations there are crying out for a visit if you and your drone! Many thanks and keep up the excellent work. Rob in Bournemouth, England.

There's a lot of infastracture there still, it seems a shame not to use it. It would take a lot of money to put it there today.

First, awesome video! Great flying. You are a brave pilot. Second, what drone did you use? Third, no signal problems going through tunnels? Fourth, did you scout the whole route first before you flew?
@dronehawk
@dronehawk 3 жыл бұрын
First , Thanks for your Kind remarks , Second , I used my trusty Mavic Air 2 - great drone , Third , I get asked this a lot , no issues with the controller signal as I was located inside the tunnels in the dark - I took off in the centre and flew outwards to daylight and back in to the other end . Lastly , yes I scouted the entire flight path , not was not easy as it is a substantial climb up a steep embankment to reach the track bed , which , after 60 years of neglect is mostly ankle deep mud and water.

My God Drone hawk that was brilliant flying through the Tunnels was unreal something I haven’t tried yet I would love to know what drone you use and if you use prop guards fly through the tunnel
@dronehawk
@dronehawk 3 жыл бұрын
Good man yourself ,wanting to try something different. I fly the mavic air 2 - best drone ever. And yes I had on attachable prop guards and strobes. It's a expensive video otherwise. As well as broken props there's 6 - 10 inches of water and muck in the tunnels if you crash.

Fantastic footage best drone work I’ve ever seen!!! sad it’s all disused but that’s modern life….. but hopefully it can be all brought back to use someday via greenways/bikepath or something!!!! But at the end of the day it was probably Irish slavery that built it so wouldn’t have any remorse for that British rail slavey on the Burma line 😏
@samnicholson5051
@samnicholson5051 Жыл бұрын
Slavery had been officially abolished in Ireland a year before the first railway was built. But it wouldn't have occured anyway because the railways in Ireland were an entirely private affair which contrary to popular belief, the mainland British had little direct involvement in. Unlike in India, they would have had to little to gain by building expensive railways in a small country with little in the way of natural resources.
