Wow, I misspent a lot of days of my youth here. I went to Wayne Hills HS in the early 1980's and this was great place to hightail to after getting off the bus if you were going to cut school that day, lol. There was an Arthur Treacher's (mmmm) and a McDonalds and a cool little arcade called Fun Palace. The proprietor of Fun Palace would let us hide in the backroom of the arcade if any school admins. came by looking for cutters. The other big store that was in that parking lot was a Pathmark, a friend of mine was a carriage pusher there. What a mess now, thanks for the views inside.

I went here from 1997-2002 and I can't believe the condition it's in now. I bought lots of overpriced CDs from Sam Goody then went right across the way was the Fun Palace arcade which was like the sister arcade to Fun N Games at the nearby Willowbrook Mall - as a matter of fact you could turn left at Alps Road and head right to Rt. 23 and you were less than a mile away. Lots of memories.

Wayne native here. The Toys R Us you mentioned has actually been in business since at least the early 80s. The mall is scheduled for demolition, and will indeed become a ShopRite. The center of the mall @15:30 used to be a fountain. The McDonalds you went to, was actually what brought that mall down. That McDonalds relocated about a mile and a half down the road. Once that McDonalds left, the mall lost a ton of traffic. The Pauley's Pizza, used to be a different pizza place, called Angelos, which was excellent. However, the owners of Angelos got divorced, and the court said they had to sell the business (around 2003-2004). Once Angelos went, it was game over for that mall. Hardly anyone went there. Slowly but surely, one business after the other went out, and left. The Quiznos was not in the mall originally. It used to be a girls store, called Afterthoughts. Around 05-06, that's when the Quiznos and Pauley's pizza moved in. However, the damage had been done already, and not only did the remaining shops go out of business, but so did Quiznos and Pauley's pizza. I remember going through that mall when Pauley's and Quiznos were being built and telling the owners of the remaining shops to hang in there, because those 2 new places may save the mall. I was wrong. It's sad to see the place be destroyed. I have many fond memories there. I remember my mom taking me to that Foot Locker when I was a kid. As soon as I put my new sneakers on, I used to bolt across the mall towards that photo place. The place shown at 16:35 was an arcade which was also a lot of fun. The mall was a great hang out place.

I found some photos from March 2018 of this mall and it looks like a standard dead mall: A few leaks here and there, a couple things falling down, etc. Now as seen here, it looks like a post-apocalyptic war zone from the demolition work. Pretty surreal and sad...this place was beautiful and I wish I could have seen it at its prime.

Hi, I was there in it's prime. I went to Wayne Hills HS. The cool thing to do if you had study period last was to ditch it and walk down the hill to the mall. It was brand new when I was a freshman in 1975. It was beautiful. It had boutique clothing stores, as well as Meyer Brothers department store, Tom McCann's and Kinney shoes where I bought all my shoes, Sam Goody's records, a cute cheese shop where the workers dressed like colonial times and more! I am probably romanticizing it because I was a teen and going to the mall with friends seemed like the funnest thing in the world, but it was great.

I’m surprised that this place has remained abandoned as long as it did, although I’m kinda bummed that it’s coming down, since I haven’t gotten the chance to shoot it myself, despite living pretty close to it. I wonder what’s gonna become of that Sam Goody sigh... There used to be some other small malls like this in NJ, too, but as far as I know, they were all redeveloped soon after closing. One of my favorites was the Mill Creek Mall in Secaucus. It opened in the mid-80s and closed in 2007. I have some good memories of shopping there as a toddler in the early 2000s, when it was winding down. It was anchored by a Kohl’s (former Caldor) and a Stop & Shop (former Foodtown/Edwards). Kohl’s survived demolition, but the corridors and Stop & Shop all got the wrecking ball, replaced with a strip mall. Kinda a shame - from an architectural standpoint, it was a pretty nice little mall. Thankfully, there’s plenty of malls that are alive and well in the Garden State!

Crazy part is the mall owner who built it is still located on the other side of the parking lot. It wouldn't have sat for so long if towns are more suited to adapt to change. Wayne denied multiple applications for new ventures of this mall since well before it originally closed.

90's kid here, I remember the McDonalds which would have been to the left in the first view of the mall. I got Castlevania Bloodlines at the ToysRus which used to be in the same shopping center and eating at that McDonalds. There was an arcade right across from it and I remember saving up my quarters to beat Sunset Riders and when I got there they had switched out the machines. I remember Sam Goody, my mom going to Karen's Curtains, there was a bank at one of the other entrances and an art place where you can buy paintings. It used to be a fun place around that time, towards the end you just had a Blimpe, Payless, and I think a Ice cream or similar type store, they put up a big wall when you left Burlington that prevented you from accessing the rest of the mall but they had a lot of events there when I was younger for a mall that wasn't really visible from the main road and wasn't in a great location. To bad the owner stopped caring about it.

This mall is probably the worst ive seen in terms of water damage. Good thing there tearing this down because it looks as if mold was going to become a major issue. Dixie Square is probably the worst condition mall that ever was having seen jonrevs old videos. Dixie sqaure was in quite poor shape as sections of the roof were collapsing and was way worse than Rolling Acres.

Those were the two malls I thought of when I saw this video. Rolling Hills is no longer the second-worst condition dead mall I have ever seen. This mall at the very least ties Dixie Square as the worst-condition dead mall I’ve ever seen. Given that this mall reached Dixie Square-levels of deterioration in 11 years, it might qualify as the worst-condition mall I have ever seen.

Wow, I didn't think any mall could quite look as water damaged as Dixie Square got in its last years, but this is very close to how bad DSM got! How long ago was this mall shuttered? For a mall not quite as abandoned for as long as Dixie Square was(and that one was for about 30 years, till its early 2012 demolition), this got into shockingly bad condition! If I were you, I think I would've so taken that Sam Goody sign, if that would've easily come off. But that's just me! BTW if you ever return to Wisconsin, you should do Regency Mall in Racine. I was really hoping you'd do a stop at that mall when you filmed Northridge, but maybe next time you're in the Chicago area you can swing north to there. Also, I think for struggling malls, you'd like River Oaks Center(was once an outdoor shopping center, till the 1990s, you can still see hints of its classic look when you walk around that place, particularly around Macy's(former Marshall Field's)), and Stratford Square a lot(down to just Kohl's, Burlington, a Cinemark/Century theater, and Sears left, and soon grocery store Woodman's will take the former Macy's space. Penney's is still vacant). Golf Mill may also be one you want to see, if just for the fact the north wing of the mall(north of the recently closed Sears, in December 2018, though the rest of the anchors remain for now) still has its retro look. The rest of the mall sadly was renovated around 2007, sadly. And although I know you may not get to it right away, I was wondering if by sometime later in 2019 or even 2020, if you might do a video of the former Jamestown Mall in the Saint Louis area? Feel free to use all my photos I(Allan Marshall) took of that mall in your video, if you want btw. If you don't do a video of that one right away, it's okay. I know Jack and a few others(I think those few others aren't yet using Sal's dead mall Discord yet), uploaded videos of that place not long ago. Back to Wayne Hills Mall, you guys ALL should see the Yelp review page, of this mall! It's at www.yelp.com/biz/wayne-hills-mall-wayne , and the photos are definitely worth a look that'd been uploaded there. Also I can't believe this photo I'm going to use as an example from Yelp was only taken in March 2015, and it only took just over 3 years for the mall to look nearly Dixie Square bad(from the pre-DSM like decay days, in 2015): s3-media4.fl.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/7Nr_rTl9vd4fQsQijPtggA/o.jpg

I'm living in Wayne since 1969, I remember this mall being built! Before that it was a chicken farm, I think. Very noisy place where you could buy eggs. I remember as a little kid going to this mall to "see Santa Claus". During high school, my best friend worked at the shoe store in this mall, can't remember the name of the place. Another close friend worked at the McDonalds. I used to work across the street at T-Bowl. I went to Wayne Valley but my cousin and a bunch of friends went to Wayne Hills, they hung out at this mall alot, it is a short walk from the high school. We spent plenty of time at the Fun Palace arcade, great place and the owner was an awesome guy. Bought all of my albums (vinyl albums, that is!) at Sam Goody. The store that is now Burlington was Meyer Brothers. Another friend of mine worked there. The other Meyer Brothers was the one that burned down in Paterson, probably two or three miles from here. There was an Italian restaurant in this mall that was owned by another school friend, that was in the 90s. I'm glad ShopRite took over and put a nice building on this site, but I don't understand why it sat vacant for so long. This mall shared a parking lot with Pathmark (supermarket), KMart, and Toys R Us.... all those companies are gone now! Well, anyway, the new ShopRite is nice. I feel old!

My favorite mall here in Mesa Arizona was Fiesta Mall. This mall officially closed a year ago on January 27th, 2018. I was there on the last day for one last look, strange to think that mall was the most popular in Arizona. Now it just sits idle. Hopefully people realize what they are losing every time a mall closes, we need to start patronizing these places again. In Fairmont City, Illinois there is an old Venture store that you can see from the highway. It still has the original storefront with the Venture black and white striped sign both on the store and as a standalone sign. It has been sitting there appartently since 1998 from what I read. I was last there in 2017 though. I would maybe call the town hall to be sure it hasn't been taken down. If you guys should decide to visit this is in the St. Louis area. On the other side of the river, there is a CLASSIC retro mall in St. Peters, Missouri called Mid Rivers Mall. Not yet dying but in the danger category. There are several dead malls in the st. Louis area including Chesterfield Mall in Chesterfield, Mo. and Alton Square Mall in Alton, IL. ALso the St. Louis Mills Mall. THese are all within a 60 mile radius.

@@BedroomScenesMovie I thought there was also a Sam Goody, somewhere in San Diego. Not sure if that location finally closed, or not. There's also a still operational one in Cookeville, TN(between Nashville and Knoxville), IIRC.

I do not believe in damaging or stealing from abandoned places, but knowing this place is such bad condition and in process of demolition, I would've thought about taking that Puma and Adidas signs in that footlocker off the wall. Seems like allot of the materials could be salvaged like benches, light fixures, signs, tiles even. I think if I owned an abandoned mall, I'd try to be selling these sorts of things, by appointment only, you come get it yourself, have them sign a liability contract or whatever, and try to make every penny count. I would buy those Adidas and Puma signs.

Around December 2019, demolition was scheduled for the area surrounding this mall except for the Burlington coat factory. I remember seeing it slowly being torn apart, so this video is a great time capsule of what the mall used to be. Thank you for sharing, wish I got to be in this mall and it's heyday because it looks really fascinating from the times I glimped through the Windows

My house is down the street, the building had no been demolished completely except the Burlington coat factory. There is a new construction being built in its place right now and its going to be a super shop right unfortunately. Which means all the food stores around it, stop and shop, corrados, and trader joes may and very well be out of business.

As a local in NJ, perhaps I can recommend some other locations I've passed by, not too far from Wayne Hills Mall: - Dynamite Falls mini golf course, Fairfield, NJ (I noticed it unexpectedly closed and overgrown. Some attractions were removed). - Park Center IV and the nearby Motel (best search for Wendy's near Hook Mountain Road), Montvale, NJ (both places have red X signs signifying unsafe conditions inside - be careful). - Kmart (search for ShopRite nearby in a shopping center), Parsippany, NJ. Let me know if you need more info or places!

The only thing I can think of with all of these malls is that a long time ago, such a concept wasn't thought of at a simple time. Every market had a purpose, nothing was put under one roof and made convenient. Clothing markets only sold clothes. Fast food joints and restaurants had their own place. Then, these monstrosities were built and sucked the living out of simple life and small businesses. Now, with nothing left in any small town or wherever, and these concrete fantasy worlds now crumbling to crap because of marketing, new ownership, cost of everything going up, the change of times, etc. You ask me, it's just taking a cruise ship and beaching it.
