Come along with me today as I explore an abandoned hotel in urban Virginia. I was surprised about the amount of stuff left behind at the beginning of the explore in the basement. This hotel was currently undergoing the beginning stages of renovation when I explored it, so most of the floors were void empty spaces with absolutely no original hotel rooms.The climax of the explore was when I reached the top of the hotel, giving me an impressive view of the city. This location is adjacent to a highway making it very noticeable for people passing by (which is actually how I came to find it).

This was the Ramada Inn when it opened and it was absolutely beautiful. Had a very popular lounge and bar. the pool was on the second floor and looked like a carport. It was supposed to be remodeled but I believe it is going to be demolished.

Wouldn’t go in now. Went in with my mom a couple weeks back and seen new solar power cameras and it’s now owned by the city.

I worked there in 1986 as a bell hop and as a front desk clerk. I remember when the ownership upgraded the restaurant and bar. The owners brought in a high end chef/manager and he tried to make the place somewhere nice and classy. I had a great time working there and the people that would come through there, oh man the stories!

So, how much scrap metal did your friend take while you were filming? Idk about anybody else but I heard a saw of some sort running in the background at 6:42 🤦‍♀️

Saw the thumbnail and immediately knew exactly where this was. Grew up not far from it. It’s not been remodeled. Always wondered what it looked like inside!

My brother worked here as a maintenance man back in the mid 1980s. He said he’s been in every room. And he hung ceiling fans in the atrium where you cut your arm. Long history of reincarnations, changing hands, tdy military, even a “luxury” apartment/resort (never opened). I’m 90 percent sure it’s coming down soon. Maybe some salvaging. Been riding by it all my life. Across the highway (the reason for these hotels originally) my moms childhood home (and neighborhood) was demolished to make room for a Holiday Inn in 1962. It is now demolished. Always wondered what it looked like now.

I am thinking it was the hotel across the street from the old Ramada Inn. It sits in the parking lot with the Neptune's Restaurant, which use to be Aunt Sarah's Pancake house. Also, this hotel use to have a popular, booming weekend club called Down Under in the mid-80s. The next thing I know it was housing VSU students for a few years and then went to smithereens. I don't know what happened to it. But when it had the club there, I just can't recall the hotels name...quite possibly the Howard Johnson's hotel is my best guess. But such a shame it came to this. Now, I could be wrong and this was the Ramada Inn across the street. I use to work there. But both of those hotels were almost the same size and built similar. Just can't be 100 percent positive when they are both now decayed so badly.
@reformer6666
@reformer6666 4 жыл бұрын
Okay looked at it again and I will agree its the Ramada Inn. In not racist but when a certain group of people started taking over, those two hotels went downhill. Name changes a few times. When a hotel doesn't meet brand standards, they lose the privilege to carry/lease the name. So, for example, when a Ramada Inn becomes an Econo Lodge, its a downgrade. If the name changes again, for example, to a motel 6, the owners really can't get their shyt together with the property. And the issues are usually uncleanliness, tons of complaints, and them being cheap and cutting back on everything. A certain nationality is well-known for being this way. But in their defense, they are getting better but they will do the bare minimum to comply.

@@reformer6666 Annnk wrong. That hotel used to house military soldiers who were stationed at Fort Lee right across from the highway passed colonial heights. The soldiers were the ones who tearing up the hotel. The last time the hotel was up and going wad in 2009 or 2010. Its been abandoned ever since due the lack of respect by the soldiers and plus Fort Lee didn't want their soldiers in Petersburg due to the crime rate.

In August of 2022 work finally began again on demolition. The building is being taken apart rather than being imploded. I think the last time this place operated was in 2012.

@@ConnorExploring Glad to hear it wasn't deep, I cut my left index finger tendon straight in half about 22 years ago by accident, they had to use a cats claw retractor to grab it and sew the 2 halves together, I still have the nylon in there now so I know how much cuts like that really sting, it was a good sign that it bled sytaight away though. I look forward to your next upload. Take care. x

Connor Exploring I watched all you videos and they all were great. I hope to see new ones soon. I was not able to get into those two abandoned places. They now have 24 hour security. I am thinking I may need to travel a little bit to find some places. I just don’t want to go far and then the buildings are gone. This is hard...Lol.

Urban exploring is pretty challenging sometimes. Honestly my best advice is to simply keep an eye out during commutes or traveling. That's how I find most of my locations. I'm glad you enjoyed my videos!

Connor Exploring thanks for the advise. I am not sure if you know about this abandoned children’s asylum in Baltimore md but it is a nice fine. I have the address but I don’t want to put it on here. I am not sure if there is a way I can give it to you some other way. Just be mindful that this place is located by a lot of houses. I would say try to do it at night or if you do it during the day maybe park on the street and walk up. I went inside but I did not go upstairs.

They still aren’t doing anything with it. The city management is a joke and the “owner” just keeps stringing them along. They recently did a walk through of the property. www.wtvr.com/problem-solvers/future-of-derelict-hotel-could-soon-be-decided-its-a-horrible-eyesore
