I also know this is done, but those tractors have depression valves. Open them to crank over for easier starting and to clear the cylinders. Also for those watching you usually never have to bleed injectors on those yanmars. Start at filter and work to pump. Sounds like decompression valves are open to me as well. No compression sound and spinning fast First thing I would of done would be check the decompression valves, pull cover and check linkage!! I think there held open. Those watching this those are british pipe threads, close to american but slightly different. Don't mess your threads up. Word of caution.

Matt’s shop, thanks for not using starting fluid. I call that death to a diesel in a can. More in likely it’s broken rings. Or bad valves. But you can put oil in the injection holes and do compression test again to find out. I use atf for that. It could be stuck rings. But doubt that if it was running and quit. If it over heated then rings or cylinders.good luck. Glad to see it didn’t go to scrap yard.

SWEEEET little tractor! I'm not a mechanic, but I'm suspecting a blown head gasket.... especially since BOTH cylinders have low compression. I also I noticed what appears to be evidence of a coolant leak over a broad area between the head and block deck... A blown head gasket could also be the cause of low coolant in the radiator. Hope that's ALL it is and you have a good engine that can be salvaged.... :-)

No.coolant in the oil- probably a matter of engine and oiling path design, combined with .where the gasket is blown out. Loosen the oil drain plug just enough to get seepage and see if you get water or oil.. :-)

Injector 2 was atomising well but injector 1 was squirting like a peeing cherub. In any case they’re both banjaxed now that you took them apart. No point in trying to repair injectors unless you have a pop tester and the set up data. All that aside, your head gasket is blown. Keep learning, you’ll get there 👍
@MattsShop
@MattsShop 4 жыл бұрын
I'm already "there"👍. One fitting was loose that's why that injector dribbled. I put the injectors back together the same way they came apart. No mixing of parts between the two. The shim stacks where put back EXACTLY as they came apart. They are going to someone with a pop tester if the thing doesn't run right after I fix it.

Smart man! I always say if it doesn’t start on it’s own something is wrong with it. Could be valves as well. I have seen even the compression release get out of adjustment to cause pore compression. Or carbon stuck the valves. Could be easy fix or pulling pistons out. Do you hear any air ex caping from exhaust or intake side? If no take oil cap off and try to hear if air is ex caping from the pistons. Oil should raise compression up. Would like to know what you find.

@@MattsShop aside from the obvious things like taking your time with cleaning everything and assembly, best advice i have is to use lithium grease before you fire it back up. Also, be aware that there are a ton of interference fit parts internally, so freeze the new wrist pins and pistons beforehand, and don't force anything together, should all just slide apart/together by hand when cold. I let everything warm up to room temp once it was together before compressing the rings. Also, there's 2 o-rings (square rings if its factory original) per sleeve. According to the guys at hoye tractor, the sleeves don't need to be changed unless they're scarred or pitted, new rings will make it cheaper on a rebuild. Personally, I'd buy 4 sets of rings and 2 new sleeves if you're going to go that route, just in case. Total price on my rebuild was about $800 in parts at the time.

@@MattsShop Deere did change specs in some areas, for the most part though you could exchange parts. Where they made them different was coupling the different components together as in a 650 deere may actually have the transmission of another equal or larger model from the yanmar. Most if not all regular maintiance items will interchange....I don't know where the new deere's are made, I've been gone from the tractor world for 21+ years. Those little yanmars were kubota's competition...good tractors. There was a time no matter the brand most 30hp and lower were coming out of japan. There are a few exceptions.

Usually head gasket only takes out one cylinder. Should still try to start on one or the other. The two cylinder diesels will run on one cylinder. Unless it blew out in between the two. But both should be same compression if that’s the case. Fill radiator up with water and turn it over. If you see water coming out of the injector holes you will know. Or put injectors back in and see if you get air bubbles in the radiator. I would believe on the pistons aren’t happy or the rings. Probably got really hot is my guess. But not there myself so just guessing.
@MattsShop

When I took the valve cover off I could see puffs of air coming from where the head meets the engine block. I hope it's the head gasket, but the oil had ZERO coolant in it. Unless it blew out in a way that didn't compromise the water passages sealing. I still think it's the rings/pistons.

That's a YM200B. A great unmolested Yanmar. Watching now but I'm sure that one will run with little work. Worst case someone over heated it and blew or cracked the head. Just a gasket is not a bad job. Don't use starting fluid you will break rings and blow holes in pistons.

@wm973
@wm973 4 жыл бұрын
I doubt it will start with that compression because not enough heat is generated. Diesel engines are around 20:1 as my old grey matter remembers. Ya need to replace the head gasket. Then put a little oil in the cylinder and turn it over a few times. This will help seal the rings. Then see if this brings the compression up. You should see a fine spray out of the injectors. If it looks like a squirt gun spray it won't start. That piston in the injector is super close tolerance so be careful. The shims regulate the amount of fuel that is sprayed into the cylinder so don't mix them up. Looks like the pump is working and that's usually the first problem. Make sure the filter's and/or strainer's are good on the pump. Good luck
