That smile on your face makes you look like a little boy. And that's what ABBA can do: just make you feel happy in a very pure way. I think it's the greatest goal they achieved. Nothing really serious, but it's so much well done!

This was ABBA's 7th UK No.1 Single. It was also their 2nd biggest USA Hit - No.3. 'Dancing Queen' was their biggest USA Hit - No.1, in 1977...

The song's inspiration was when Björn jogging and singing "tck-a-ch" repeatedly to himself, which turned into the background and the phrase "take a chance on me" :)

I agree with previous comment. Dereck, you give a special charm to your videos. And it's admirable when we imagine that you were born after ABBA's retirement of music 🎶. We can see that you enjoy ABBA's music; you know what a good music is.

It's funny. Pop music today is so bad it makes disco sound good. The craftsmanship behind this song is so much better than anything mainstream today.

I loved your reaction! Fun fact: One day while he was jogging, Björn (one of the two men) kept repeating to himself a percussive rythm formed by the sounds “t-k-ch” as his feet moved relentlessly forward in his jogging path. Within these sounds he found the phrase ‘Take A Chance’. Then, he just added ‘On Me’ and thus the song was born. For your next video, I suggest ‘Does Your Mother Know’ or ‘Money, Money, Money’.

"Take A Chance On Me" outsold "Dancing Queen",,, and stayed longer on the U.S. charts. I was in Europe that year and brought back an LP of "The Album", and it was much better presented than the U.S. version (double-sleeve),,, and "Take A Chance On Me" was slightly longer (by a few seconds) than the U.S. album (on Atlantic). At this stage, they were at the height of their popularity (heyday). My favourite 🅰🅱🅱🅰 song.🥰💓🎼🎶🎵

It's strange how in different moments in our lives, our reactions to things can be very different. I bought the VHS of the Abba Gold compilation back then and I thought their music videos were not really impressive, pretty childish and I was disappointed and almost underwhelmed in a way. But what I didn't realise then, is that, most bands or acts that specialized in making great and elaborate music videos (like say Duran Duran or Michael Jackson) didn't start making proper music videos until 1981 or 1982 (and they were seen as pionneers then). But today when I saw this music video, I had so much fun watching it, it's uncanny. It surprised myself. I really enjoyed the simplicity of it and it took me on a joyful ride. You can't help but feel happy watching this and now yearning for those more simpler times.

I like how the interchange of minor and major chords in verses expresses this tension between fantasy and reality. The optimism of what she's imagining in "So much that I wanna do" and "it's magic" is denied or doubted by minor chord. Also tension in chorus (which is 21 bars) is created by irregular number of bars to chords changes. Very intricate multi-part pop song indeed with a lot of details.

Love this one and live it’s a real crowd pleaser and has everyone up dancing !!! Time to get out the feather boa and dance like there’s no tomorrow……. Perfect again and off To raid the feather boas and decide which one to take next year to see them at the new ABBA Arena in London !!!!!

I'm really enjoying your reaction videos, especially the ABBA ones. My ABBA song reaction recommendation: Watch Out from their debut album Waterloo. It is quite the gem and super catchy. Trivia: If you are familiar with director Quentin Tarantino and his taste in music, Watch Out is one of his favorite ABBA songs.

Lasse Hallström was cleverly concealing Agnetha's pregnancy in the video by shooting her only from the chest up and making her wear a cardigan. He also repeat the technique on the video of Name Of The Game.

Agnetha had her second child about five weeks before this video was shot so she's probably still regaining her figure. The last video that ABBA filmed before she gave birth was 'The Name Of The Game'. Her baby bump was hidden by them sitting around the table playing a board game.

This is geniouses at work. It sounds uptempo, but if you follow the kick and snare it's actually really slow. It sounds "disco" but isn't at all - no 1-2-3-4 beat, funny vhord movement and unusual vocal arrangement moves it away from disco. There have been very few at their level of writing mainstream music - and this is one of the simple ones. Oh, the musical "Chess" is these guys too, and it's brilliant!

This video was made because they could not meet international demand and go and tour everywhere in the world so the music video was made, signed, sealed and delivered by their manager Stikkan Karlsson. Apparently the first musical video ever. I can hear Stikkan trying to make it more sexy by having a surely reluctant Agneta to mumble random stuff 😃 Stikkan Andersson is hands down the man behind ABBA's success, a very excentric and multitalented man from humble beginnings.
