Abbey & David at The Santa Monica Pier

Abbey & David are always going on the best dates! They haven't been to the Santa Monica Pier in a while so this was a special day. Going during the off season is the best because the lines are short and it's not super hot. They got lunch at Beach Burger, rode their favorite rides, met fans and finished the day off with ice cream! Next time we'll have to check out the Heal The Bay Aquarium

I hope they don’t get overwhelmed by all the people and pictures. I find it weird people want pictures vs just saying hi and moving along. Anyway, they’re both so sweet and glad they had a nice time.

Well when people admire something so much they will be excited and want to capture the moment. They were on tv so they aren't just random people getting bombarded. Even I'm not famous and I've had people ask to take a picture with them. Sure it can be weird but it is mainly just wholesome, no reason to unnecessarily judge

@@stonedalldayjedi533 I think the difference is that they were on tv but they have sensory issues and triggers and I personally have seen in some videos both her and David looking overwhelmed and slightly frustrated especially when they are trying to do something and keep getting stopped…I understand though people wanting to capture the moment cause they are such amazing and inspiring people…so I get both sides of this❤

I really enjoy & appreciate these longer videos! Abbey is such a breath of fresh air for me. Especially when it comes to how people relate to other people. And how people in general tend to view the world. Abbey's outlook is the outlook I'd like to have. I would cherish a friend like Abbey. She is the most genuine person that I've ever had the opportunity to see. Abbey's attitude and the way she navigates challenging scenarios has inspired me. It makes me genuinely want to improve and try new things in spite of my health challenges. I know it's taken hard work & dedication to get to where she is in life. That alone inspires me 💕 And it's so cool to see the happy couple together, enjoying the fair!

Hi Abbey, I noticed you mentioned in a video that you have difficulty controlling your body and it sounds really frustrating. I'm wondering if you've ever considered trying to get help developing purposeful movement patterns to communicate through spelling, e.g. something like Spelling to Communicate (S2C) or Rapid Prompting Method (RPM) to help get your thoughts out? There are some autistics who have unreliable speech (e.g. Danny Whitty or Autastic Tom [on youtube] who use S2C, even though they CAN speak, like you, but they have difficulty expressing their inner thoughts and feelings through speech, because of mind-body disconnect (which I think is what you were describing?). Over time they've developed the motor patterns to be able to express their deeper thoughts and feelings through using letter boards and/or typing. I'm wondering if you and/or David had tried this or have thought of trying it? Also, it's obvious you and David are really smart. I noticed that David started singing the song from Lion King in the exact right key. And I'm wondering, does he have perfect pitch?

I guess it would make more sense me addressing those questions to Abbey's mum as I think she's the one who mans the youtube account? Have you ever considered something like S2C for Abbey? It sounds like she might have difficulty with purposeful movements and controlling her body. This is a very common experience in autistic people who have difficulty with communication, whether that's not being able to speak at all or having a lot of speech but difficulty communicating what they want to say (e.g. they might use lots of echolalia and/or scripting, or 'yes' might pop out when they mean to say no or vice versa). From what Abbey said, I thought it sounded like that could be the case for her. With S2C, the focus is on developing the motor patterns needed to communicate by pointing to letters on a letter board and progressing to typing independently. Pointing to letters is a less complex motor task than speech and can be doable, even for those with severe apraxia, and including those with no speech at all (although it can take a lot of practice to get fluent). Check out i-asc (for more info on S2C) or halo soma (for more info on RPM). To see videos on youtube by people who've achieved independent communication see Damon Kirsebom and Gregory Tino.

Eating that horrible food and then riding on that ride would make me barf. I cannot eat any sugar, so this place would make me sad. Everything has sugar in it. Corn dogs have a ton. I can’t eat any carbs at all. They turn to sugar. Also I cannot do large crowds at all. I get very anxious and irritated.
