I think I grew up as Abed, then found the character and confirmed it. I got called across the room “Hey, you’re Abed! From Community!” I had no idea what it meant, but now I do; and I’m going to lean heavily into it. A recent wave of TV shows with socially awkward “idiot savant” typed that they claim promotes Autism but is such poorly bad writing and bad stereotyped that it’s actually damaging. (Especially given the varied nature of a >spectrum< disorder) and the obvious sellout nature of it. Example shows are Young Doctor, Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon, Atypical, Elementary etc.

Another show that also uses this stereotype is Monk, which has a terrible depiciction on OCD. It relies on stereotypes and the show makes a joke out of the characters situation and "forgets" or "cures" when it's convenient, never taking it seriously.
