I have huge affection for Aberdeen & its people. My family ran a hotel in Aberdeen during the war and I lived there for 4 years while studying a law degree at Aberdeen University. It was so lovely to revisit all the places I loved as a student and to reflect on the time that has passed since those days. It was a snowy winter wonderland when I visited which was incredibly beautiful.
I really hope you enjoy the video, which was made with a lot of love for Aberdeen and its super friendly & welcoming people. The city is not really on the list of most visitors who visit Scotland, but I hope I might convince you that the city is worth visiting, and has a lot more to offer than meets the eye.
Please support independent shops & cafes in Aberdeen whenever you can, and make a donation to free attractions if you're able.
The video includes all the following places in Aberdeen:
Aberdeen Train Station
Aberdeen Bus Station (Union Square)
Aberdeen Beach & Surfing
Aberdeen Harbour
Footdee Fishing Village ('Fittie')
Duthie Park & Cafe
David Welch Winter Gardens
Marischal College & Robert The Bruce Statue
Provost Skene's House
Marischal Square & Leopard Sculpture
The Kirk of St Nicholas
"M-City" Mural
Aberdeen Art Gallery
Union Terrace Gardens
Aberdeen Science Centre & Cafe
Old Aberdeen
Aberdeen University & King's College & Chapel
St Machar's Cathedral
The Brig O' Balgownie
Ma Cameron's Pub
The Mercat Cross, Castle Street
Aberdeen Maritime Museum
Aberdeen University Zoology Museum
Cruickshank Botanic Garden
The Gordon Highlanders Museum & Cafe
Hazlehead Park & Cafe
The Torry Battery
and lots more!

Really hope you enjoy this film of Aberdeen, which is a wonderful Scottish city, with incredibly friendly people. Put the kettle on and sit back, and let me show you all my favourite places around the city. It's not on most visitors list of places to visit, but I hope that I might convince you that it's well worth a visit. Even though it was really challenging to film in the snow, I hugely enjoyed visiting all my old haunts and falling back in love with this great city. Thanks for watching & supporting me. KZfaq is changing and it's getting harder & harder to keep going - so thanks for sticking with me. All the best, David 🙂

My husband and I grew up in and around Aberdeen between 1975-1987. He grew up in Aberdeen and I grew up in farm country in a small community called Glassel. My family moved back to the States in 1987, and we reconnected in 2013. Our dream is to someday make it back for a visit. For us, this is home. It's where our formative years were spent. When we were there Bon Accord used to be a "bathhouse" (swimming pool), and the closest McDonald's was in Edinburgh. We either went to Wimpy's or Radar's if we wanted a burger. We rarely shopped in Aberdeen, so when we went it was mostly to stock up for winter, Christmas shopping or it was a "treat".

What a great video, I love the photography, and music. Well done! I was born in Canada in 1931 of Aberdeen parents. We moved back to Aberdeen when I was 4 yrs. Old. due to the depression. I returned to Canada in 1955 . I still look on Aberdeen as my ‘Hame’ I lived in Bedford Road, Kirkhill road and Urquart road!! My Grannie lived down a close on George Street, outside toilet!! I used to sing at the Sunday concerts at the Beach Ballroom, one of my brothers played for the ‘ Dons’ at Pittodrie many moons ago! Last time there, my son and I took my ‘ Aberdonian’ husbands ashes home, also his mother’s. …Your video brought back many wonderful memories, It is a wonderful, and lovely city. I especially miss the fresh Fish! Thank you.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇨🇦👍🏻😂❤️

Hi Betty, thanks so much for watching and your lovely comment. I really enjoyed reading about your days in Aberdeen and I’m glad my wee video brought back some good memories of this lovely city. My mum was brought up in Aberdeen and I lived in Sunnyside Road for a few years when I was a student. I really enjoyed my visit, even though the weather was quite a challenge for filming. I hope to go back and do some more filming soon. Thanks for watching and all your kindness. Warmest best wishes & thanks, David 😀

Thank you so much - it's a great city, with great people and it was really nice to be able to celebrate all it has to offer. I know it has problems, just like any other city, but I think it's nice to focus on the positive side and show off all the great things the city has to offer. Thanks for watching, all the best, David :-)

Hi Stephanie, always lovely to hear from you. Hope you're doing ok and you're enjoying your knitting - you're so good at it. I'm so happy that you liked seeing the city. It's very underrated and not on the list of many visitors coming to Scotland, but it really does have a lot to offer and is well worth a day or two exploring. I really enjoyed myself and I'm sure lots of people would be surprised if they visited. Hope to have the Dunfermline city guide out soon. I've been waiting for the Palace to re-open, but the works seem to be taking a long time. Take good care of yourself and thanks, as always, for watching and all your support. Best wishes, David :-)

Outstanding! Aberdeen is amazing in every way! I love the impressive & rustic granite buildings. Along with the magnificent Churches & University, the beautiful Waterfront, the Winter Gardens & other lovely Parks & Gardens. I also loved all the cute animals at the Pet Park, especially the closeup of the fluffy faced Llama chomping away on his lunch there. LOL. So Cute! As well as the cozy Cafes & delicious looking eating places. I also loved seeing the interesting Museums & learning the fascinating history & facts about Aberdeen & the area. Above all, of course, is the outstanding Footage & Commentary 'a la David'.....as always. Aye! After this wonderful Tour 'tis even more true.."The Northern Lights of Aberdeen are all I long to see!" Thank you for sharing this delightful experience in 'Auld Aberdeen." Blessings to you David!

awww... thanks so much Annie, you're such a kind soul. I'm so happy you enjoyed it and that you love Aberdeen as much as I do. A lot of people discount Aberdeen as a place to visit, but I think it's brilliant and there's a surprising amount to see & do, and of course, the beautiful seaside location is the icing on the cake. Although I've been back many times over the years, this was a real opportunity to re-visit many places from my student days and there were many highlights. St Machar's Cathedral is particularly special - it has a wonderfully benevolent & peaceful feel and very special. Hope you have a lovely weekend and thanks again for all your wonderful kindness & support. Warmest best wishes, David :-)

Hi David, Aberdeen is such a beautiful city and the blanket of snow just adds to ambience as well as bringing a feeling of peace and tranquility. I tried to make it to Aberdeen on my last visit to Edinburgh but never got there. Hopefully, next time. Thanks for another wonderful video. Take care and be well!

Hi Mike, hope you're well and I'm so glad you enjoyed the video. I really enjoyed filming in the snow, it was really beautiful, although I did find it a little slippy under foot at times! I really enjoyed my visit and thoroughly recommend a day or two there. Hopefully you'll be able to get up there in the not too distant future - it's well worth it. I hope to revisit later in the year and visit Dunnottar Castle and a few other gems. Hope you have a lovely weekend and thanks so much for watching. All the best, David :-)

As a Buchan loon, born and bred, it was wonderful to see Aberdeen portrayed so well. Mind you, seeing all that snow and ice on the roads and cars reminded me why I now live in Malaysia. I have a trip to Scotland planned for September this year which will include some time in Aberdeen where I particularly want to visit the Gordon Highlander's Museum as I was actually named after the regiment. Thank you for your time and effort producing such a great video.
