Are you looking to upgrade the exhaust of your Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 or Continental GT 650 and don't know which one to choose from the many available in the market?
Well, I happened to chance upon the three most prominent aftermarket options available for the Royal Enfield Twins on my ride this Sunday: AEW, Red Rooster and Gursewak.
And the only thing then to do was to line them up and make you hear them.
Red Rooster Performance or RRP as they are also known are a Bengaluru-based performance tuning brand who have made a set of chrome pipes for the Interceptor/Continental GT 650. These cost Rs 19,000. With the baffle they don't get unreasonably loud. RRP can be contacted here: redroosterperfo...
AEW or Ashu Engineering Works is a Pune-based company that have been designing exhausts for Royal Enfield for long. Their exhaust has a brushed finish, unlike Red Rooster and are a bit more bassy too. They also happen to cost the least in this trio. Rs 15,500. Gursewak from Delhi look like jet engines from the back, the inside diameter is that big. These don't have the option to install a baffle and are the bassiest of the lot. The ones on the bike that rode with us were brushed finish and were the size of the stock exhaust.
Gursewaks suit the Continental GT 650 more than the Interceptor 650 in my opinion because they seem more racy and purposeful. Cost is again Rs 19,000. You can reach out to Gursewak here: gursewakexhaust...
And finally, the benchmark. The stock exhaust that these aftermarket units hope to replace. While I think the stock sound is the most mature of the lot, it is a little on the quieter side and the design is not the most appealing either.
This was just a last minute video we shot with my phone and not under the best of conditions. I plan to shoot a video comparing all these exhausts and their pros and cons very soon.

If you hear them in person, you won't find them too loud. The baffles make a huge difference. And now, even Gursewaks are coming with baffles.

Baffles are small pipes that are inserted inside exhausts so that the flow of gasses get restricted. They help the bike make less noise and pollution.

Getting the interceptor 650 in Chrome in May at the Seattle, Wa USA dealership with the S&S exhaust as an accessory. Hoping it will sound as good as some video's I have seen. I have waited 2 yrs for this bike!

The stock exhaust sounds the best! The sound from the stock exhaust tells of a powerful 650 motor, the heavy bass note and shrill lower revs sounds good. Not every bullet has to be a sound polluter. The stock exhaust not only sounds good, but also look bigger and well matched with the bike design. Gursewak exhaust is nothing but stock exhaust engineered without the DB killer.

I think the AEW are the best they have a nice old school sound, then comes the stock one, then the red rooster as they sound too sporty which doesn't go well with the style of the bike and then at last the Gursewak, i am happy it is an Indian brand but it is not just about how loud you can make it, it is about how nice of an sound you can make it. With a bit of R&D i am sure they can improve...

Actually all three aftermarket exhaust is good. Before watching this video I was with AWE. But now I am gonna go with Gursewak. Don’t take it personally because it’s sounds so loaded and full of bass. But it’s better to have an exhaust system, which you can control with dB killer.

Tec in uk claim 49 bhp with their cans, they sound great as well, have a look at their videos as they say there's a lot to be gained by cleaning up the air intake and putting better air filters in as well.

RRP have their HQ inside the same industrial estate n about two buildings away from my Uncle's factory.. So back when I was in college, I'd go n hangout outside n ogle at all de amazing stuff they had inside.. N then one day a guy saw me loitering around n asked what I was up to.. So I told him about my uncle having a business in the same compound n that the stuff they had scattered around fascinated me.. The guy asked me to follow him in n gave me a full guided tour of the place n let me rev the Evo X they'd finished working on.. So then I told him that I should probably leave bcos the owner of the place won't be happy about it.. N he replied : "Relax. I'm the owner n you're free to be here all u want".. That very owner is ex Indian rallying royalty Leelakrishnan Narayanaswamy.. Needless to say, he made ma day!

1. Gursewak 2.AEW 3.Stock 4. Red Rooster Thats how they stand on my list. Gursewak had amazing bass in it. They Didn't sound that loud in this video. Now i agree the bass would sound loud when you are closer to it. But as bass is low-frequency sound, it would sound literally nothing when you go away from it. So if the bike passes by at full chant at a certain distance then it would not sound unpleasant. The Shrill sound of the Exhaust note would hurt your ear more. It makes a very undesirable sound on a Flyby. ThanQ very much for this highly informative video. Hats off to you Abhinav. If i ever come down to Delhi, i would definitely buy a beer as a Thank You Gesture. If you dont drink, then a Coffee might be.

The AEW was the best no question it's just a shame that the attachment to the down pipes looks so aftermarket. They should offer a shield to cover the clamp. Also it would be nice if they had a set of stainless steel down pipes to finish the look.

Thanks for this comparison. Both the RRP and AEW sound best to me. US gets these in later this month. Excited to check them out when they do. Has anyone managed to get more power out of these yet? How's the reliability compared to newer RE bikes like the 2nd run of Himalayans?

Hi. All these aftermarket exhausts bump up power by about one and a half BHP. Dyno tested. Maybe a remap might do some wonders. And thr reliability is alright. Not as solidly put together like a Triumph but won't complain given the throwaway price it is being sold at.

AEW is best option in India. what a great sound. The owner of AEW is an Engineer, Shaqueel sir. He is very experienced and a very polite man. the factory is in Pune.

Picking up my Interceptor here in the UK on 1st June. Not sure what cans we will get here, but for me,the Red Rooster ones sound the best. Not too loud.

If I am not wrong, AEW is Ashu Engineering Works owned by Shakil bhai? All Pune bikers know him. People used to call it Shakil exhaust.

Gursevak sounded muffeled at ideal but lost consistency in revs. RR sounded raspier something like older 2strokers in the revs. Aew sounded pleasantly enticing and consistent all thru.

On the move, both AEW and RR sound more or less similar. But you wouldn't find either unpleasant. Gursewaks get loud.
