My college just performed this tonight. I went to my car and immediately searched for a recording. It's music like this that fules my desire to become a film composer. This piece touched me very much. Simply Breathtaking.

Forrest & Rutter, are two of my many favorite contemporary choral composers.
@waltertheus34675 жыл бұрын
At our church we have sung many, many pieces by Forrest and Rutter over the years (including the Rutter Gloria and Requiem). Recently we have sung a lot of music by Phillip Stopford, a young English composer who writes very much in the Anglican tradition. He led a two day workshop for our choir late last summer. He is churning out a lot of music, and it is uniformly good. You can find it on KZfaq.

“Forgive me if I forget with the birdsong and the day’s last glow folding into the hands of the trees, forgive me the few syllables of the autumn crickets, the year’s last firefly winking like a penny in the shoulder’s weeds, if I forget the hour, if I forget the day as the evening star pours out its whiskey over the gravel and asphalt I’ve walked for years alone, if I startle when you put your hand in mine, if I wonder how long your light has taken to reach me here.”

I will never forget hearing this song for the first time in my highschool chorus, how this song stunned me with its beauty and still does. Unfortunately we didn’t sing it for our concert and I graduated but I will never forget this song or my highschool chorus, the best part of school by far! :(

I was invited after a long day at work to listen to the choral of Millikin school performing at a church in Decatur IL. They performed this hymn at that time and it was the first time I have heard of it , and all I can say that I could feel my soul being lifted out of my body to somewhere magical. These are the most touching words I have heard in a hymn and the melody is multiplying the words by like a thousand. We all have these moments where we forget the beauty of what is around us, Busy with life, stress ,errands and sadness but this hymn always reminds me of how beautiful this world is and that it is worth living for.. if there is heaven and an after life , this is how angels would sound like ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Dan Forrest and the BJU chorale are unmatched in their professionalism and excellence. But, the camera work the BJU people do at War Memorial Chapel tops this off. The paintings-the placing of the cameras is exquisite. Every detail is thought about at BJU. Makes this not just about the sound but the pictures as well.

I am so impressed the more I listen to this composer. Good performance as well. This piece reminds me of fall for some reason. But wow, I mean something great, I'm excited to hear more. The chord structure in bits throughout remind me of Whitacre. The whispers are a nice touch. Bravo to BJU.

Everything I've heard from Dan Forrest is amazing, I've yet to be disappointed. This last season alone, we sang Lux: The Dawn From On High, and Requiem For The Living, and the first season I joined the Salt Lake Choral Artists, we sang his arrangement of O Little Town of Bethlehem, which started a love affair with his music.

I sang this in my sophomore year of high school, and I’m so grateful I did. Performing it changed me into the singer I am today. This is the hardest song I’ve ever sung in a choir, as well as my favorite.

Andy Waynick Am new to Dan Forrest so have much learning to do, however, from what I have heard so far, his transcriptions and compositions seem to not have emanated from this earth. I do believe Dr. Forrest receives his inspiration from the other side.

The first time I ever heard a piece by Dan Forrest was my junior year of high school. I was in a choir in New York and the men were doing one piece and the women were doing Psalm 8 (Adonai Adonenu) to be performed in Carnegie Hall. The way that piece resonated through that space was like nothing I’d ever experienced.

Really fun to learn. Sight reading this is another story. The amount of accidentals is strange and the amount of key changes makes it harder. But it is a good song, and has some real good harmonies
