Great video! I saw Alex talk at the BMC last weekend, alongside attending a showcase with Paul Hartnoll, who was a very similar set up to Alex in this video (not kit wise, but in terms of the logic behind the live set). Watching that, and this video, has really provided some inspiration for my own live set, which i've been struggling with working out how to arrange. Nice one guys!!

Brilliant video. This is pretty much exactly the set up i'm working towards… it always confused me how to organize and set up multiple live sets while maintaining control. Thank you Alex and PB for taking the time to share quality information!

Also, how do mastered stems work? Confused on this matter . . . Surely if a final mix gets sent through master bus compression etc, then the dynamics of each channel are interacting with each other in a way that means that exactly the same result couldn't be achieved with each stem mastered in isolation (if that makes sense)?
@donaldderrick1595
@donaldderrick1595 5 жыл бұрын
there is a version for live performance which is different from the edit for radio. Also they can sacrifice a channel for use as a master bus i believe. although i think ableton has a solution for that in the factory settings- have you tried to use it yet? (It's been three years I hope so lol- even though i was producing back then too and never stopped to get my own push)

Hey guys i just got a xone k2 and i'm doing a similar thing feeding audio into 4 main groups assigned to the 4 channels on the xone, but i'm having a bit of trouble with some advanced midi mapping on it. i've got basic volume control, filter on/off and cutoff assigned to some of the pots and buttons but i'm having trouble with the more advanced stuff, can anyone help?

Joan OfArt thanks very much for that! I 100% understand the concept of dummys, I create a blank audio clip and write envelope automation for a given parameter and launch for the parameters to take effect, grand! my question is why do Alex' clips look different to mine? For instance, his OFF is coloured white at 21:32, why is that? His clips also look a bit different to mine, there's a bar that is to the right of the play button and to the left of the text.

Are you talking about sending all your clips to the 8 channels respective of their type? eg drums bass synth etc? Just open you i/o and choose where the audio is going from or to

Why is this a LIVE Masterclass? He certainly knows his stuff, and speaks well (when you can hear it) about his craft. But he hardly even touches the PUSH, there's maybe 5 seconds of Live on the screen for the whole 40 minutes. And, guys, you are supposed to be Audio PROs!!! What's with the voices? Over filtered (HPF much?), glitchy, odd volume changes (individual fast AGC for a final product is not usually a good idea), and even dropout at 37 minutes (Bad cable? Happens to everyone - but most don't leave it in the final product.) I assume you release these to get people to join Point Blank Music School. This kind of quality won't get you many subscribers.
