Here's an update video about why I haven't been posting as often lately. I've been feeling burned out from Final Fantasy XIV so I took Yoshi P's advice and took a break from the game. (Yes, I QUIT FFXIV for 3 whole weeks!)

Taking a break is healthy, and ultimately the way the developers expect players to play. Taking breaks helps keep content fresh and exciting. Players should be EXCITED to log on, rather then feel like they HAVE too. Eorzea will always be there for us, and our friends in game will be excited to her about all the adventures we've had in other worlds upon our return =)

I agree except there's a few systems they have in place that really get in the way of that. Housing is a major one, if I take a significant break I lose my house. The whole housing system very much goes hard against the idea of not logging in if you don't feel like it for an extended period of time. Then on top of that they have limited time events, that you can't get the rewards from in the future unless you pay for them, and that's *if* they hit mog shop at all (imo the mog shop shouldn't exist but that's another matter entirely). They could have made it so you can earn them later, like the next time the event happens or the like, but they chose not to. And nowadays they implemented limited time Battle Passes to the PvP as well. Don't feel like playing for a PvP season? You miss out, permanently. Too bad so sad. So like, as much as I've heard it said that the devs want you to only log in if you feel like it, the systems they've implemented into their game don't back up the idea all that well. And the new PvP system with a battle pass aspect is not a step in the right direction at all.

Tell YoshiP to remove the house demolition then we can have an actual discussion about taking a break from the game. You can't say 1 thing and do another.

@@ibigfire Honestly, I would hate it if people who didn't log into the game once a month didn't lose their home, the demand is so high for them, would be awful to have someone who has quit the game for 3 months still maintain their home. Tbf, all of these things listed don't prevent me from playing other games or doing other things with my time. In fact, I would argue that having new rewards for pvp makes me want to log into the game and do pvp, seasonal events give me something new and interesting to do, and it doesn't take a large commitment of time to get the rewards, so it doesn't impact my ability to go do other things, but also gives me a reason to play the game, instead of forcing myself to play to do something I don't want to do. If there was nothing new to do in the game, be them new rewards or new activities, the game would be dead in no time. I much rather the content that you might miss out on be accessible, and low commitment, rather than intense and incredibly difficult. Supporting players taking breaks not mean stopping new activities and reasons for players to log in.

@@Titanhart33 There's potential solutions to all of that that can keep the good while getting rid of the bad. Housing is the one that would require the most work to fix, but still not impossible. It would mean they'd have to overhaul how housing plots work though so that new housing becomes available as needed. But a housing overhaul is sorely needed anyway, the current system is absolutely awful both for getting a house and for keeping it. You seem to somehow have gotten the idea that I said I want the new seasonal events and PvP rewards to stop, but I find that strange because what I said is that the rewards from them should become available and earnable in the game eventually later. I did not say that new things should stop happening. That change would mean that when the events come out you could feel free to do them and be excited over them, but you wouldn't feel forced into subbing up and doing them due to a fear of missing out. It would be the best of both worlds, from a player benefit perspective. Seasonal events and fresh content would still happen, which is great and would keep people playing that wanted to be playing at the time, but you would only feel pressured into doing them right then if you wanted to, not because you have to or you lose out forever.

I love how you can take breaks. I usually devour story content, and then do side quests as I feel like it. Sometimes I become inspired to do beast tribe quests or level up a job, but sometimes I just don’t play for weeks or months if I don’t feel like it, and I’ll just get on for seasonal events. Most of the time I just enjoy playing with friends, and if I only hop on when my friends are on, I don’t feel like I am lagging behind thanks to not having played in a while. My progress is still always there and as long as I keep up with patches (Which I usually want to do as soon as they come out anyways) I’m good to go.

I think it's really refreshing that Yoshi P encourages people to take breaks. One of the big reasons I'm probably still playing FF14 is because it DOESN'T feel like a second job. I don't HAVE to log in everyday like you said and you can do everything at your own pace. It's a big reason when friends start playing I tell them to take their time and not rush MSQ. Savor that story like a fine wine. It's not going anywhere.

I feel anyone can do whatever they want. If you want to take a. break, take a break. When you come back, your mind can refresh and rejuvenated. I would happy to see other content of other games you are playing and thoughts about them. If you play other Final Fantasy games. It would be fun to hear your perspective on it. Who knows, it might be fun to turn your channel into a podcast and interview our thoughts of the game esp. from your subscribers to your channel. It is just a thought, but thank you for your videos.

Taking a break now and then is very healthy and makes your return even more sweet. I have periodically taken breaks, sometimes a few patches at a time. But when I get back I have a lot of fun and refreshing new content or going back to older content that I used to do before the break and having a blast! But now that you came back, could e expect a 7.0 prediction from you? Whether that be the one place we go, the new job or something you would be the most exited for? For me my 7.0 predictions are: - Female Hrothgar trailer with an NPC in patch 6.5 - We could go to either Dalmasca or Meracydia - The new job or one of the new jobs that we could get is Oracle from FFV. I think it would fit Krile perfectly, especially since we know that she will get a new job in 7.0. - New hats for Hrothgar and Viera - And the new Visual update

Me and my whole FC are going through this burnout right now, so the FC is pretty dead... but I think it's healthy for us all to take a break and play different games, I'm especially planning on taking a big break when Baldur's Gate 3 comes out so I can focus on enjoying that game, then after that I'll probably return to FFXIV hopefully feeling refreshed but if not, then I won't force myself to play it. I know I'll come back eventually because I love this game and I've made good friends and good memories, it's a part of my life now and I'll always be looking forward to future content too. :3

I came to FF14 after playing SWTOR for 10 years straight. It was not healthy, but I felt as if I was missing out by not playing, even though I was logging in due to a sense of obligation rather than passion. I'm currently going through 4.0 and can comfortably say I'm still in the honey moon phase of FF14, but I know it won't last. And that's fine, cause up until this point, it's been such a breath of fresh air to play a game the values my investment, both when I'm on or offline. And I have faith that if I ever burn out, I'll be hooked when the devs send out their next patch or expansion. There are plenty of gamea out their people, don't be afraid to take breaks from time to time! There are plenty of sprouts like me still logging in ❤

remember: unlike WoW, FFXIV content doesn't "Go Away" once the next new content launches. As a Sprout who has spent about 200 hours in the game so far, I haven't even started Shadowbringers yet because I'm neck-deep in Eureka Pyros and doing my first Static-based Raid in the Coils of Bahamut. I plan on taking about a month off from the game once I've completely wrapped up the Stormblood Content (including MiNE Extremes) so I can go into Shadowbringers without the burnout of Eureka Grind.

I hit a burnout and then I forced myself to play through it. But that just made me dread the game even more. Then I just snapped one day. Gave up my plot, left FC, just straight up quit the game with no warning. It's good to take breaks! I know the sub model (and housing tied to it) isn't very conducive to it, but at the end of the day, your mental well being comes first and foremost! ❤ Whatever content you produce I'm sure many will come around and check it out!

I feel like FFXIV as a game is like a GCD. You have to weave at least a bit of other content in between to make the most of it xD (I hope this makes sense, I'm new to the game) About what you said, videos about any game you're trying while taking a break (or just playing in between) would be cool. Like, Baldurs Gate 3 is dropping soon, and I'm certainly will be dropping a few hundred hours there, at least xD Even non-game content, though. As long as you feel like doing what you're doing, I think people will still be here. I mean, I just got here today (subscribed moments before this video), even with the latest video being a month old. What made me 'stay' is the feeling of 'authenticity'. Don't know how to describe it better. And ofc, while we all may show just a fraction of ourselves out here, sometimes we just... resonate with some content? Like, the little jokes, PoV, etc. Anyway, rambled too much already. Should make a tldr, but now I'm just feeling lazy.

I think this is normal and fine I take extended breaks on and off all the time. Some longer than others. Especially if I don’t have a particular personal goal with the game at the time (Barring new patch releases or expansions). Or just plain boredom from complacency. I feel like if I never took breaks my relationship with the game would slowly turn into bitterness. Plus I’d never be able to work on my eternal backlog of other games as well. Great video Avy and I appreciate the transparency plus using your own experience as a PSA to other WoLs who may be really feeling it and need someone to tell them it’s okay to spend some time away from the game since FFXIV ain’t going nowhere.

I have been glued to FFXIV for nearly 3 years non stop and found myself not enjoying it much lately. I barely watched Anime during these past 3 years so I take this opportunity to watch one of my all time favorite Anime again. I don't want to lose my love for this game so I'm gonna take my time and enjoy something else until I have the urge to do something else again.

Good message about burn out. I've been there many times, and I completely understand. As to what content I would like to see....no idea. 14 has so much you could do, or make videos on, I can't really say one thing in particular. You do you AvyCatte, and make what you want, and I'll check it out. Even the cringe stuff (I might turn the volume way down, and watch it in the dead of night, when no one can see...but I'll check it out.) I certainly have ideas for videos, and I've always wanted to be a content creator....but........I have no excuse...I just haven't done anything like that before. Do what makes you happy, and that's enough for me.

I've been playing consistently since AAR launched and I've taken plenty of breaks. Anything from a few days too a few weeks. It wasn't until midway through ShB that I had major burnout and didn't login for 8 months. It's okay to not play everyday, and the minute this hobby becomes like a second job that should be your que to take a step back. The games not going anywhere and will welcome you back when you are ready. And on a side note if you are worried about not being able to keep in contact with friends one solution could be Discord.

It has less to do with burn and more that the content the last patches has been extremely underwhelming. Also their housing demolition system contradicts all the excuses of, "devs wants you to take breaks", they sure want you to keep paying the sub, or else they’ll take your house. I have taken breaks in ff14 starting in Stormblood due in part my dps of choice, machinist, getting totally gutted in that era of the game after it felt like it found it's place at the end of Heavensward. Since I have taken breaks on and off and honestly always come back to burn a lot of time on the game again. Thankfully ff14 is set up to not punish you for dipping out for a bit. Plus having the time to enjoy something is nice, like I have been diving in to ff16 and Dragonball The breakers. Really helps with changing the gameplay due to them not being tab targetting.

Up until last year I was playing Destiny 2 almost exclusively. It was almost exclusive because it had to be in order to get everything done before the content got removed. Not just out-dated, REMOVED. I quit D2 last year when I realised I hadn’t had much fun the entire previous season, and the new season was a boring grind. I moved on to XIV, which I’d tried to play since 1.0 but could never get into. My level 60 BLM was boring me so I bought an ARR story skip, picked up Gunbreaker because Gunblade go brrrr, and now I’m finally nearly through Endwalker. I’m actually happy it’s taken me so long. I’ve been able to play at my own pace, try out a bunch of other parts of the game, and most importantly enjoy the story without rushing through it. It’s such a joy to know that the only things I’ve really missed out on were the limited time crossovers, and the seasonal events from previous years. Everything to do with the core game is still here (barring those few things that were shuffled about a few patches ago). XIV is great because it doesn’t bank on FOMO. You can take a break whenever you want, and everything that releases between leaving and returning will still be there.

I can relate to this video a lot, especially with the burnout and as a FFXIV Content creator. Endwalker I think was the straw that broke the camel's back for me and I started to become really burnt out on the game, and I was the same way where I just subbed and logged in just so I had footage for videos/machinimas rather than being interested in the content, and I was starting to lose interest in it. But I don't wanna leave it forever because I do genuinely enjoy the game, and so I've been taking a step back and playing other games and branching out my content beyond FFXIV (I've been making quite a bit of Elden Ring videos lately xD) But it's good to know I'm not alone with this problem, I enjoy watching your content a lot and I look forward to seeing what you bring next! I'm still paying my sub incase I get the sudden urge to play, but I'm absolutely happy to pay my sub until they add more content. I've been kind of so-so about logging in, too. I LIKE the current MSQ, the relic grind actually looks kind of fun, I have to catch up on the Alliance raids, whose theme I love, and I haven't even TOUCHED the Pandemonium raids, and those look really cool too. But instead I just kinda loaf around the in-game house, stuck in a cycle of "maybe if I fantasia'd...", which isn't particularly healthy. I dunno. I think the spark will come back in due time, but for now it's sleeping.

Breaks are good. Have fun with whatever else you do! Video games (big Dark Souls fan here, so it would be fun to see someone else tackle it), board games (board games are in a sort of renaissance right now, and it can scratch the social itch of MMOs), book reading (drop a book review, it can mix things up!), learn to play the xylophone... so long as you enjoy yourself, you will find FFXIV more enjoyable when you're ready to jump back in.

I think taking a break in FF is easier compared to other games for many people because it isn`t as focused on endgame. If you think about it, the raiding community is rather small for an MMO. And that is certainly not a bad thing. Yoshi is propably very much aware of what FF is, what attracts people to it, and him telling people to take a break fits exactly in the image the game has and propably wants to have. I will say that I think unless you do alot of endgame content in an MMO you can take breaks from most of them. What is punishing in other games is your progression for the endcontent, but if you choose not to do that or not to go as far into it (for example: raiding normal or heroic in WoW takes less commitment compared to mythic ect.), it is totally fine. However it is clear that those developers don`t tell you to take a break - this might also be something that comes down to the mentality of the developer. Sidenote: If I am in a city in FF I also tend to look at glamours and adventure plates. And I guess people who put alot of effort into them do actually want someone to look at them. Most of the time there is no reaction, maybe they don`t even see what I am doing, but if someone does target me back, I mostly just wave at them. IF a conversation starts after that, I am totally fine with it. I personally only got a tell once in regards to my character/glam. I guess being a male character in this game doesn`t attract as many to look at you in the first place. Or my glam is just boring, that might also be the case.

I try to weave other games around so I don’t get burnt out. It’s a really big game so I don’t blame yoshi for being real and saying take a break lol. Doesn’t help that we’re between expansions and the last one was the absolute rollercoaster Endwalker lol. Good to take some time after that and relax fam lol

Even with a new patch just released, I am only logging in to keep my house and do island upkeep... I don't want to loose my house and all the work/money that went into it so I gotta keep my account up... but that's it for now. I play other things, have fun elsewhere.

After ARR and the stories leading up to Heavensword, I haven't had the desire to play much myself. The break is necessary or maybe I won't enjoy Heavensword as much as I'd like to, so I'm waiting until I feel ready to go through more MSQ. Until then, I just visit to get MGP for about a minute with the Cactpot and then jump off.

I think most people who end up burning out seriously or even quitting for a long time are the ones that take the game too seriously, they feel the "need" to do anything and everything and they force themselves to login daily and do "something". I was like that for like the first year, I truly had a lot to do since I had just started the game, but there's few things that are truly "time gated", so you can take your time! Breaks are healthy (not too long if you have a house T_T)!

It’s very important to take occasional breaks for FFXIV. What I do is take about 2-3 weeks when a new single player games comes out, or maybe just play through an old single player I haven’t played in a while again, then I’m usually ready to come back. I also force myself to play different roles/jobs everyday to keep the gameplay fresh. While RDM is my main and one true love, switching up seems to have kept me interested for over 2 years now and I have the attention span of a squirrel lol

My burnout was back during Stormblood, I was logging in for several hours every single day and just doing... nothing. Eventually I decided I needed to take a break from the game so I got a friend to make an alt and join my solo FC in order to keep my house from getting bulldozed. I let my subscription end and forbade myself from signing back up, I was gone for about 8 months and only rejoined a month before Shadowbringers released and since then I've been an extremely casual player. I only log in when I've got something specific in mind that I want to do and once I'm done with that if I don't feel like doing anything else then I just log out and play something else.

Tbh, I've played since Heavensward, and I've taken several breaks, sometimes for months. Although most of the time it's because there's another game that I'd rather play, like for instance Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom & FFXVI were my most recent games that I played & finished. That being said, Endwalker have had a quite weak endgame compared to previous expansions, for instance Shadowbringers had Bozja/Zadnor, and Stormblood had Eureka, there's been less to do overall in the game, which is fine, but previously we had more content for the endgame.

FFXIV is my main MMO, but I also play GW2 when I take breaks from FFXIV. I'm generally a lot busier nowadays so I'm only subbed to FFXIV maybe 4 months out of a year now. GW2 doesn't have a sub fee; so there's no pressure to try play to everyday (although there is a daily login bonus but it doesn't reset if you miss days). Maybe I'll eventually get burnt out of GW2 as well, but for now I'm making the most of it and taking my time through the game, setting my own goals along the way rather than speed running through each expansion (although I did speed through some unlocks like the roller beetle and skyscale mounts).

I'm pretty sweaty into the game with multiple ultimate clears in a very short amount of time but I'd say burnout is to be expected. What doesn't help too is that if you aren't a raider, frankly post game Endwalker has not been as excited for the content we have been getting as the other expansions. It's nice there's been a different variety than normal, however when I compare EW and SHB it's crazy how little I feel there is for most people.

I'm still pretty new to the game and am not bored of it, but life is busy, I can't commit to an MMO really but I missed that buzz I got from WoW dungeons and raids, FF14 is great if you need to drop out at any time and I can just pick it up when I have time. Always good to take a break if you get burn out though.

Burnout is a mixed bag, there's some who are and some who aren't, I fall in the no-burn out zone, but I still take mini-breaks from FFXIV to play other games, I've been enjoying Bayonetta as of late for example and I've been loving it and planning on playing It Takes Two with my bf. All of this while we're raiding, farming relics, crafting and more. 😊

It is as you said, the game allows breaks and doesn't pressure you into playing constantly. However, I believe the issue behind the many complaints of people is the lack of content. XIV has been progressively pushing out less content with each patch since mid-ShB. Which is a shame, especially if you have ever played in Stormblood where you would always get two dungeons per patch, additional side content. Both a deep dungeon and an exploration zone (Eureka). Just comparing patches between Stormblood and Endwalker makes me a little sad. With XVI out, I just hope they'll focus on XIV again.

On the subject of the dungeons I sort of get it: all that would happen was you do expert roulette and then you get sick of both of the dungeons released that patch. They look cool but everyone just runs through them as fast as possible. With newer patches, instead of two dungeons to get sick of, it’s one. Honestly I think it’s not really as important as some people make it out to be.

The weird thing honestly is that A LOT of people are burned out of FFXIV at once, which makes me think that it's not just a personal thing, it IS in fact the way the content is being released. I'm not complaining, I don't actually dislike it and I can just go play something else like a healthy person, but it's kinda weird to see. I like how respectful the game is with our time, but yet I miss having more grindable content that makes people want to log in RIGHT NOW!!!! Like bozja, in ShB was cool because there's a huge (optional) grind in a zone that makes a lot of people play together, and it was full of people while the relic was relevant. While the content being released right now is cool and I want to do it...I just don't want to do it right now and I know I won't be missing anything. I know I can do bozja today but it was a different feeling doing it while it was relevant, you know?

The main-"issue" with XIV is it is fully designed around the casual-playerbase and catchup-mechanics, for those casuals make up the big majority of the playerbase and therfore the submoney. It`s not designed around people who want to play everyday. That`s why all relevant content can be done in about 4 hours in a week including reclears, B-rank-hunts-the Khloe book etc. With the lack of an exploration zone like Eureka it`s more noticeable then ever. I WANT to play the game but I ran out of content that I want to do a while ago.

@@zirilan3398 It's kind of always been a casual player mmo, just like how WoW used to be before it kept bombarding players with systems on systems. Heck even with the cross class skills FF14 had earlier in its life requiring you to level up multiple jobs, it was still a pretty casual game as story focused games tend to be.
