The whole video was making fun of asmon and trying to turn him into a spectacle. He is very unhappy and doesn’t care about himself or his own health, the people around him also don’t care because they are streamers or just interested in him because he’s famous. He really needs help, he hasn’t dealt with any of the stuff with his parents or his own childhood and is basically trapped, literally, in the remains of his childhood. It is very sad to see and also very irresponsible for him and others to be making it into content and not taking this situation seriously.

I grew up in a hoard. my dad kept everything. every room was filled to the brim. each drawer was packed with random stuff. he owned a baking company and worked so much, he never had time to clean it. the garage looked like a sardine can with a path to walk through. I got tired looking at it and was like ill clean it, thinking how hard could this be. it took 6 months and 2, 16 foot flatbed dumpsters. the problem was its not all garbage, it was boxes of paperwork, stubs, tax information. from over 20 years ago. toys, vhs tapes. photos, computers. clothing, equipment. so much. he kept nearly all of my stuff from childhood. Pokémon. video games. phones. magazines, etc. a pipe burst in the basement and flooded one side lifting a lot of the stuff and mixing it together. cleaning that room was really hard. id sit on the floor in ppe digging in a huge pile of stuff ruined by water, picking it all apart trying to save it, peeling photos from one another. this room was like a time capsule. it had a pool table and sound system. wed have party's there in early 2000. the vhs player was left on with rush hour in. like one day we walked out and never came back. unopened beer. vinyl, receipts from blockbuster. it was emotionally taxing to clean it all. the memories lost. the room looked like Chernobyl from the pipe bursting. mice had eaten there way though the tv and made nest inside it. sorting that pile took weeks. like climbing a mountain of trash until the summit. bagging and loading the dumpster. shredding a forest of paperwork. donating, sorting and finally cleaning the house out. watching that flatbed drive away. I will never forget it.

That's what my apartment is starting to look like, and it terrifies me because each time I think I should clean out stuff I realise everything was left in some place because of some memory I had about it. My main hobby is old LEGOs, so a lot of the stuff is just boxes of it or boxes of Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars. The thing is, I do actually throw stuff out regularly, but some things I just keep and over 15 years of doing it it's just ended up all over the apartment....

His parents were fucking horrible, that’s why he lives in these terrible conditions and doesn’t care about himself or his health. Part of why asmon is trapped in this situation is because he is unable to re-evaluate the relationship he has/had with his parents, he is desperately holding on to that more child like mindset. I’d hope your son doesn’t turn out like asmongold because then you would have failed as a parent in making room for your son to become an individual, but the fact that you think what asmongold is saying is a positive thing doesn’t give me much hope. You shouldn’t need your son to validate your feelings of accomplishment as a parent, that is emotional incest, if you feel that you want that then you’re parents did the same to you, where they got you to make themselves feel better, go to therapy, break the cycle.

Over lockdown I was fortunate to have probably in all a year in total to ponder the meaning of my life, I was lucky the company I worked for furloughed me and I was able to survive financially while having an unexpected amount of time to think. It helped me see through the fact that we are convinced we have to be miserable and work to survive, that we should live in a certain 'acceptable' way IE how society tells us. What I noticed was that the people who just do shit like that to feel like they fit in, aren't happy. It's hard to be yourself, especially if you come from a working class background where your class's mantra Is 'no one enjoys work, do it to get money and have a brief window to do what u like aka the weekend. For me that was drinking to excess to escape the misery of what I was going through Monday to Friday. Its a cycle and finding your own path , something that suits u is best, if it means working less, having less money but more freedom to read, study , play games etc, then do it. Don't be another prisoner and certainly don't adhere to rules that alienate your true self. Oh and don't hurt anyone.

I lived like this for a time. And it truly didn’t bother me. But where asmon and I differ is I was ashmed and wouldn’t let people come to my house cause I knew what they would think of it. But living in it literally didn’t bother me. So I understand what he’s saying. I tell everyone. The best part of being an adult is doing whatever you want. Sometimes this takes the form of doing nothing to clean. I get it. It all changed for me when I met a girl who is now my wife. I never let her see my house that way. I cleaned it before she came over for the first time. FYI it was about 6 months after we met. And to be honest I still hate cleaning and only do it because of her and now our son. Stay strong asmon. If you ever find something worth cleaning for you will and it’s not that bad. If you don’t. Then just be careful about mold and things that can be in the air that you can’t see.

Similar story. In fact I lived so bad I'm embarrassed to even detail the full facts. I was heavily depressed at the same time though. I'm talking I moved a mattress from a nice bedroom to the living room floor next to the sofa TV so I could just go sleep straight away - of which eventually became surrounded by 1000s of cigs, trash and random shit. It was so disgusting. But I'd shower everyday, groom and always be clean and never let anyone around so no one knew better. It was really sad actually, even though the freedom felt great. I smoked an absolutely unreasonable amount of weed too. I remember the epic clean when I first was to meet my current partner of 5 years... omg. I found a few fucking maggots in the kitchen. Ugh. I'm sorry dear God lol. I can't even comprehend it anymore. I like things tidy now heh. So ashamed that was me at one point. I had and still have a good paying career too (nowhere near Asmon level though lol). In principle Asmon is correct when it comes to your own choice, but this ultimately is a hermit mentality. It will always break down when considering friends and future partners unless he finds someone that doesn't care, but then you have to consider children and so forth. I dunno man. I feel a million times happier than before and also enjoy living in the physical much more.

@Asmon. I hear you. I'm in the same or similar boat as in the mentality behind it, its only me living in it, i enjoy my status quo- Things could be worse, they can always be better. I dont often have social visits or require to much creature comforts except my entertainment through the computer etc, Like yourself i live allot inside my frame of thought. So i think my perspective might be functional, although its my perspective. You might be comfortable in it, as i live similarly in a less tidy state cause conditions and physical limitations with not as effective always support network. I think you should clean up your home, sort out the mess, clear paths, sort it into a room. For Certain objects If you have not used it in 6+ months you probably never going to use it, unless its decorative or a memorabilia or chargers/ wires, electronics etc. Do some renovation and repainting, check for molds more importantly cause health, I think you will feel surprised how relieved or satisfied you would be afterwards even though you stated hey i am ok with this. Iv said to myself the same things or similar things, but iv realized even though i dont need it, my mind and eyes feels lighter whenever i am in a less messy environment as a burden or veil has been lifted, that i essentially did not realize i had cause i am accustomed to my way of life. Have your friends, maid or some professionals to help you sort it all out if its difficult for you because of whichever reasons you have for yourself. It will make your home more welcoming to others when you have visits, designated creature comfort zones that you permit yourself to be messy, then sort other areas out. Bottom line though, be yourself always, we do not cater to others without a purpose or reason, especially about our own "caves" It is our domicile, our fortress of solitude! Mi Casa Zu casa, Be friendly, make sure others are comfortable in Any case, Wont hurt to give it a try and see how it turns out? Perhaps you be happy with the results, if not wont take long to get it less tidy again. Haha Then again, could be a interesting couple of videos, to see your process with it and it can inspire others like myself with similar thoughts and views that hey although we are ok with it, things can always be happier, better, or improved upon. You have the means and i think the network that many others lack so my answer to most things is why not and how much is it going to hurt, what ifs, best case/worst case scenario.

I love my wife and children but the happiest I ever was before them, I rented a room in a unfinished basement. Had a bed, desk, and 2 big storage totes for my clothes. I worked part time for Beef Jerky Outlet and made literally only enough to pay my living expenses. The room was cold and dark but I had my PC and big blanket and that was all I needed. I don't crave anything big and I've had the same furniture ever since I moved away from my parents at 16, all "new" ones are second hand. I really think something asmon often says PERFECTLY applies to himself here, you cannot reason a person out of a thought they did not reason themselves into. Him accepting to live like this is not some intellectual logical conclusion its a delusion that hes accepted. Its kinda funny, I live like Zack on a lesser scale. After not speaking to my father for almost a decade I went out 2 weeks ago and found him. And to my surprise he lives almost exactly like me and we share some of the same interests. Listening to him try to describe a certain youtuber and me knowing exactly who it is was just crazy. Anyway, after talking about the shit we've been through over the years we both shared the sentiment that we have to look out for each other and that we have to take care of ourselves (living not in "filth"). Its started slow (we've both cleaned up some and shared pictures) but I'm hopeful for the future. Listening to Zack talk about how he lives in a "non-physical" way rings close to home. After thinking about it I am doing that. Dreading going to work, having a small social battery, not cleaning, not being physically active, spending all my free time looking at a screen (sometimes of dubious ethics), thinking about things that have nothing to do with the world around me or fanaticizing about what could be. Thinking about mortality, that's a rough one but very relatable. The armchair phycologist in me would say that he's tuning into his mom. Forgetting the physical world and living in the tiny bubble that is home. I will not say he's too far gone, what I will say is that at the moment it seems he doesn't have people that he wants or needs to change for (I've seen another commenter share the same sentiment). I get it. Edit: Your not alone.

He's not a bad person (in my opinion) but it isn't helpful to condone unsafe and unsanitary living conditions.

I've never bothered cleaning my room either, but when I did, I discovered something new, that I actually enjoyed a lot more how it gets when it's clean. some of the issues like dust flying around or bits of dirt on the floor started to bother me, now I can't stand it and makes me go clean things up again. once a week or every two weeks is fine, nothing tiresome too, takes only about 20 to 30 minutes, I don't even wash the floor, I just use the broom and done.

It's not just about personal preferences or freedoms; it's about the living conditions. No one, particularly someone with the means to enjoy a comfortable life, should be living in such conditions. If you choose to lead a simpler life, take a day to clean up your home and make it a habitable place. It's not about living extravagantly but addressing issues like clutter, mold, and unsanitary conditions. We understand that you have your own way of living, but as a content creator, your image and lifestyle also matter.

next time OTK does one of those fundraisers where at certain amounts a giveaway happens or something else like shaving someone's head happens, the top fundraising goal if met should be a week long stream of some people in OTK cleaning out asmon's house. asmon can still decide whether or not he wants certain things to be thrown away, but i think getting rid of the actual trash and cleaning the floors and walls would be good for him and then with it clean and essentially a fresh start maybe he can start changing his lifestyle and certain habits that will be healthier and cleaner for him. because right now as it is he probably won't change because of how much mess there is, must feel like he is at the point of no return. a fresh start should change that

I do feel a lot of people are projecting their own wants and needs onto you, but on the other hand, I also think sometimes we get so used to something over time (a messy house in this context) that we tend to forget how we'd feel if it were organized and clean and therefor we unsconsiously convince ourselves that ''we don't care'' and that we are fine with how things currently are, simply because we don't know any better anymore and a messy house has become the norm. However, there are people who genuinely are unbothered by clutter and don't feel different when things are tidy, which is not easy to grasp for most people. Regardless, I do applaud you for being this transparent instead of sheepishly putting up an inauthentic picture of your house for the sake of avoiding judgement and receiving validation, like most people would do.

I feel like I am the complete opposite of asmon in this sense. Messes make me anxious, nervous, stressed, and I cant think of anything other than how small the room starts to feel once its "messy." It's made me develop some levels of ocd and when I would go to friends houses, I'd immediately want to clean even tho, to them, it wasn't messy. It was them just living. I always felt bad and intrusive for wanting to clean my friends homes, because its not my space and not my things but I would become so overwhelmed mentally because maybe their bed wasnt made, or maybe they had dishes in the sink..I'd lose my mind and wouldnt be able to relax. Thankfully my friends never minded me cleaning up their spaces, cuz they knew it was me just..trying to get comfortable. I feel like asmon must had quite a world in his mind that probably keeps him so happy that the environment around him starts to not matter anymore.

I took about 18 months off of work a while ago and that was the happiest I had been since graduating college. I was disappointed that I didn't do more of the hard stuff I enjoy doing - it showed that I am pretty lazy - but being able to get up, do things I enjoy, take naps, etc. without the anxiety of knowing another work week was coming Monday was a great feeling. Eventually I went back to work because I didn't find a way to financially sustain that lifestyle but I think I would have stayed unemployed if I had the money. But I could never live like Asmongold. The anxiety I get from a messy house is just off the charts. I sometimes let house cleaning go for a few months but feel like a complete POS when that happens. I always wish I had cleaned earlier when I finally do clean. If Asmon has always lived like this, perhaps it would be interesting to keep the house fully clean for a month or two and see how he feels. Often you don't know what works best for you until you try all your options.

Dude you are smart enough to shift around/deflect arguments/criticisms but there is some severe underlying anxiety and unhealthy coping mechanisms going on. Anxiety relating to change. Sometimes we fall victim to unhealthy dynamics because it is what we become accustomed to. Asmond, if you read this, I know you have it hard-wired that anyone who suggests you should change things doesn’t “get it” or is doing it to try and control you but I genuinely hope that you consider creating a healthier living environment for yourself. It is possible to feel better when things are properly maintained and cared for. Changing/getting rid of some things doesn’t mean you are getting rid of your identity. The people in your circle genuinely care about you and want the best for you. Wishing you all the best.

I mean, knowing what we know about Asmon, it's pretty clear to me on the psychological side of things that his mom is part of the reason he doesnt want/feel the need to change anything about his lifestyle. She allowed him to do whatever he wanted to enjoy himself for many years, so once the house (saddly) became his chore to take care of, he kept doing the one thing that made him feel good, probably to avoid looking at what was facing him the whole time, which is the void left after his mom saddly passed away. It's a form of self preservation, to stay in the same state that he was in when his mom was still living under the same roof. That's why he does not want to get rid of anything, that's why he does not clean, that's why he keeps the hundreds of tokens from past years and decades. He has not moved on yet, that's his burden to overcome.

Hello Asmond! I just watched the house tour with Steak and Eggs Podcast video. I’m a fan from Sweden who loves your videos, I think you’re amazing and very entertaining to watch. As I have 2 small kids myself and feel a ”father-role” at home, I would love to come to your house and clean/sort things for you. However, as I live in Sweden and support my familiy, I don’t have money to come to U.S to help you (where I have never been), but if you could fund me to come and visit you and only pay for the trip and cleaning products (and if you want some ”sorting shelfes”) I would love that. I can also bring you a free wallpaper of your choise (digital printed), to get motivation from my boss to leave work for a few weeks to clean your home. I’d be sleeping at your house for the days I spend there and I can also cook some Swedish meetballs for you (among othet things). As ”the father” to come to your house I would not be judging at all, I know a lot about your life since I watch your streams, but would love to just help you clean. I think you would feel very well after I’m done, but it will be a challange for you. In terms of ”can I throw this thing away, that you used 20 years ago”? I will never force you to do it, but let’s but everything ”like that” in ”the garage”. I’d just like to help you and see your reaction to what my mom shown me, a clean house. Oh, and a ”fun” fact about my mom, she cleaned her house from the age of 8, since her mom didn’t have time to, and her siblings was too lacy/”young” to do it. My mom has been ironing my clothes (even underwear) since I was a 2. Would love to help you feel what I’ve felt my whole life
