What am I talking about?
My topic is the KE-Jetronic injection system which I try to demystify as much as I can.
For all of you to understand the system in brief - Developed in 1973 and being mounted into cars up to 1993 as it went in history. But why these to letters!?(KE) K(from German "kontinuierliche Einspritzung" meaning continuos injection, without interruption) the MECHANICAL injection system on which the fuel starts flowing from the fuel tank sucked by the FUEL PUMP and delivered to the FUEL DISTRIBUTOR which sends fuel to the INJECTORS while the majority of it flows through the FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR through its return line back to the fuel tank again. The letter E(elektronische Gemischanpassung/electronically controlled mixture adaptation) has to mark the electronic sensors (the developement starting from early eighties) which had to inform the ECU about the current state of the engine so that the ECU(Electronic Control Unit) then could create current signal in mA(miliampers) and send it to four crucial components for the system - the EHA(the electro-hydraulic actuator, a unit consisting of a magnet, an electromagnet and a baffle plate) which had to fine tune the engine in each of its phases, the ICV(the idle control valve), the unit which was predicted for the engines perfect idle, the X11(the diagnostic socket) where the duty cycle(the ideal mixture) was adjusted and the X11/4(the code reader) - the socket which from any codes were read if present using an OBD1 scanner.
An extraordinary injection system which could be fully repaired in your own garage using a multimeter and a pressure gauge only for its fine tuning, together with some common tools.

im 20+ years electronic-mechanic full time, do everything at my job, program, repair, create and solve many electronic problems in heavy and light vehicles. BUT!! i'm light years from the knowledge of my master ivica. i work with mercedes benz for many years and no one i know can repair or diagnose a w124. thanks ivica for share your knowledge with us.

My good friend i have been watching your very informative videos for some time as i have an 1990 R129 300-24 SL, I bought it as a 50th birthday present, a few days ago i reached 73, it has become my hobby BUT after standing for a few years i decided to get it ready for the road. I had to change both fuel pumps filter and accumulator , i also cleaned the small filter in the fuel distributer , The car starts but tries to idle at 350rpm after 3 or 4 starts it holds at around 400 then increases to 900, if left it will go to 1500 rpm. I have changed the idle control valve and also the temp bulbs, I looked at the EHA valve but didnt do any adjustment. After its warmed up when i go to start it the engine again tries to run at 350 rpm, so today i will adjust the EHA valve 1/4 turn clockwise wish me luck. Best regards Sisaket Thailand.

Maybe because it's not in the specs although it's new. BTW. check your rubber boot and if it's okay then your eha is not in the specs.

ivica can you help me with this problem please in my car: specs - MERCEDES-BENZ 190 (vin: WDB2010242F419514) E 2.0, Year of Construction 1987 87KW 118 HP engine 102962. I have most things sorted for the car and recently a no start when engine hot (when I changed the fuel pressure regulator no more hot start problem. Some info says when fuel accumulator faulty and cannot hold pressure in fuel line can create vapour in fuel line and hence when hot fuel mixture 14.7:1 is out of spec hence no start). I still have one more problem to sort i notice when engine hot, at operating temp of 87 dec C (new thermostat) the rpm start to fluctuate high and low RPM constantly until I press the accelerator, (with clutch down), then it stops. What's the problem here? I need to stop this problem. Also when cold I can sense a slight acceleration in car with no foot on throttle cable? 2 problem I have any ideas where to check for these problems. Have you come across them?

Hello. At first Tell me if you have a three or 2 pin idle control valve. Concerning the issue with the acceleration, the only thing that fall to my mind is that the throttle doesn't close fully or the micro switch is bad. When the fuel accumulator is bad then it comes to difficult hot starts. That's as much as I can say for now. Give me some more information and I will try to help you more! Greetings

@@mercedeske Idle control valve - 2 pin - it is new, changed out end of last year. I think you are right about the Throttle valve does not close completely because I have been fiddling with it. I cannot really see if it is closed or not. How can I adjust it without having to remove the flowmeter. I can see the nut and screw in front of me, and can reach it to adjust but how to know fully shut or not. I guess I can see it through the flowmeter plate (fully open). I noticed that the micro switch is only an on-of switch and not a sliding scale switch. Do you know how far up the threads the top of the nut should be? I think you have solved the problem just need to get the right adjust for the throttle plate. (what about the RPM revving high and low is also possible because of throttle plate not fully closed) thanks.

@@siriperera6974 You will have to do it while the car is ON. Concerning the your question - NO, you don't have to disassemble everything. You will just have to unscrew one out of 4 screws holding the throttle body(the right one) in order to come to the little screw and to have space while working on the little screw. Set the throttle by closing it - you have a screw and a counter screw - be careful to adjust both of them. You will know as soon as the TPS recognizes idle position. Yes, the increased RPM can be the cause of all this! Fingers crossed!

@@mercedeske Ok Ivica I think my last problem in car going to be solved. So car start on idle. You have the screw and counter nut to hold screw down after adjust. Adjust the screw until the idle moves - that is idle position for throttle butterfly valve. So when engine shut, the throttle position also fully shut. Am I right? My idle is now 1, a bit high, or I adjust to 0.8. Sorry so many questions. I think we are coming close to this last question.

That is ok, but what about K-Jetronik? There are a lot of W123 K-Jetronik, you don't say much of this.
