The issue has NEVER been legally decided. It was only stopped through violence. Violence predominantly caused by the Union. IF states had been told they could never leave the union, the Constitution would never have been ratified. It was assumed they could leave if they so chose.

Let's see...oh yes, the Union was so violent it would not let the South enslave humans. That Confederacy, they were just a bunch of nice guys.
