I'll admit that Ibaraki Prefecture is the least attractive prefecture of all prefectures even though I'm a resident😆 As Chris says, we don't have a thing that is "this is our selling point!". I remember when the nuclear accident in Tokai-mura happened, people living nearby were ordered to stay at home and my co-workers couldn't come to work. I was poor in knowledge at the time, so I didn't know what was going on, but I felt tension in the air. That is why Tokai-mura has the only exhibition hall on nuclear energy in Japan, called the Nuclear Science Museum. It is quite interesting to learn about nuclear power through games and other activities. I don't think this will be a selling point though😅

Ive been staying in Ibaraki for the last 2 weeks and stayed earlier for 2 weeks in July and I absolutely love it here. Senbako, Fukuroda-taki and the surrounding forests and mountains, Ooarai, Ajigaura and a lot of other places are absolutey beautiful.

Hi guys, thank you for reading out my post(half of it lol). Edo wonderland is a samurai village with mini theatres, and a castle and a shed load of audience participation. They were all massively friendly and as we were the last to leave, they arranged us a cab, and put on an impromptu show in the car park whilst we waited. It’s innocent, but no Pete it ain’t kiddy. I’d say more family friendly. I shall share a couple of pics on your FaceBook page if that’s ok

11:59 Pete's talking about Pablo Escobar. The Escobar Phone 2 was a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold sold by Escobar Inc with gold foil on to make it look different, “sold” at $399. The reason is because only KZfaqrs got theirs. The company was founded by Pablo's brother Roberto, they do various scams such as this to make money.

As a Gunma resident (an unpopular region that frequently gets memed), I was taken aback by how "unkept" the Ibaraki region is. I went there a couple of times to visit the Hitachi Seaside Park. On my way there, I noticed weeds growing tall on the side of the road. I was on the main road just after exiting the toll. I came from a Third World country and was surprised at how similar the view is to where I came from. I am not even kidding. And I can't think of anything unique to say about Ibaraki. 花貫渓谷 Hananuki Gorge and Mt. Tsukuba is the unique location that comes to mind. In Gunma, we have Initial D (anime), A Place Further Than The Universe (anime), beautiful onsens like Takagarawa Onsen, Kusatsu Onsen, Shima Onsen (the location of Spirited Away), Watarase Keikoku Railway, and very popular mountains like Mt. Tanigawa (谷川岳) (for hiking), Mt. Haruna, and Mt. Akagi. We're trapped between three mountains, which I think is very cool. And Gunma-chan is one of the popular mascot characters (yuruchara ゆるキャラ). Gunma still has a good prefecture "branding' to live with. Gunma is pretty much an off-brand of Nagano with lesser mountains. Gunma is memed as an Inaka (Rural), but it's not as bad as other hardcore Inaka prefecture like Saga. I've seen far worse Inaka in Tohoku, where you can see rusted infrastructure such as pedestrian bridges and rail stations. Weeds on the road exist in Gunma roads, but you'll have to look for them deep in Gunma's "untouched" inaka areas. You won't find them on major tourist routes like Nakanojo and Minakami. Our neighbouring Prefectures, Nagano, Niigata, and Tochigi (Nikko esp), completely overshadow Gunma. It has become a transit point before seeing the more unique prefectures.

Last time I listened to the podcast I heard sirens and looked out the window to see two great big firetrucks and a police car parked outside the house blocking the view from the livingroom window. Turns out the butchers next door had caught fire! Fortunately no one was hurt and the butchers was even open again the next day, so obviously the situation looked worse than it actually was. Luckily today I got through the podcast without any sirens going off anywhere :)

Rode through Ibaraki Prefecture after staying in Hitachinaka (APA Hotel), on a couple rental bikes for the last day of our tour around Japan. We woke up to rain and it rained almost all the way back to Odaiba! Ibaraki seemed to be quite industrial and a definite 'working-class' region. It does have the Hitachi Seaside Park though.

As a fan of AKB48, their now defunct Team 8 was in conjunction with Toyota and had 47 members - one for each prefecture. They always made fun of the Ibaraki rep named Okabe Rin and the fact that Ibaraki ALWAYS gets last place - eventually it became a part of her identity as an idol.

After more than five long years of not being able to go to Japan due to Covid etc., I finally made it back this autumn, and I went to Nikko, which was on my list of places that I really want to visit for a long time. I had fairly high expectations, but it was even more impressing than I thought. Really beautiful temple/shrine complex. Places like Iroha-zaka (Initial D) or Kegon--no-taki aren't far a way either. I hope I'll be back again soon 🇯🇵

Subscribing isn't redundant, it's just that it's several levels to it now. Subscribe is like admitting you like something, but the notification bell is the thing that decides of you get notified about new videoes or not. It's not as bad as facebook, though. For more than a decade, facebook has NOT shown updates from pages you follow in your feed. Instead they ask the creators to PAY for the privilege of getting their updates shown to their subscribers. Yes. You heard me. On facebook creators have to PAY to be seen. While youtube has ad revenue and pays the creators.

Honestly I don't trust this annual survey, but it may also reflect different values of what people consider beautiful. When prefectures like Iwate end up mid-tier but Tokyo ends up (near) top I scratch my head. Even celebrated prefectures in Japan have some butt ugly areas, e.g. Ishikawa and Kanazawa, the traditional part is lovely but that drag along Route 8 is horrid with the Hokuriku Expressway literally stomping it's way through the city. It's just a matter of what sits in the memory, e.g. if your memory of Mie is Yokkaichi, you may not think it was the most beautiful place, but if your memory of Mie is of the wonderful Ago Bay area in Shima City, then you'll probably respond positively. Ibaraki in the south is indeed industrial, but further north it has its charms. Ultimately, it depends on what you see as beautiful, it's subjective.

Nikko is nice if you want to kill some time on the way from Tokyo to Sendai; at least that's what I did. It felt kinda like the required touristy stuff to do, and I figured it was about time since I had skipped it so far on previous trips. Wasn't a bad half day... laugh at funny animal wood carvings, see some old shogun sealed up better than Fukushima Daiichi, marvel at a vending machine selling only bottled green tea and its accompanying 12 (!!!) trashcans... there's uglier places you could go. Like Ibaraki, apparently.

You know, I've been meaning to ask the kids over at TC with the kinds of things they tend to focus on when they do their travel stuff, why should I travel thousands of kilometers and spent thousands of dollars, even in a technically favourable economy, to do, what I could ostensibly do, at home... I mean, if we divide the generalised idea that, it's another culture and whatever... because I mean, isn't that the point of collapse for a lot of people, where the dream just seems that little bit out of reach? I know the things are not 'gimmicks' but the slight difference between an experience in say Australia and Japan likewise makes a lot of the things seem largely artificial, like the only thing that makes them 'gooder' is the artifice of "Japan" and I mean, that seems silly that they can't see that... I dunno. Same complex with the Ibaraki thing maybe... it seems artificial... I don't know.

Though I can't find much argument about Ibaraki ranked the lowest, the other prefecture rankings on the 2023 list is pretty bad. Kochi for example is ranked 32 and i would rate it was one of the most underrated prefectures. Just no one wants to drive and experience the unadvertised parts of Japan.

notification bell does fuck all. for a single channel you can only get 3 notifications per 24 hour period, but across all channels that your account has notifications on for, you can only get a total of a dozen notifications per day. so all these people telling you to enable notifications, expecting them to get pushed through, are wrong. if you enable notifications for every channel you are subbed to, you will not get the vast majority of notifications. so, how does one stay informed of recent videos? same as always, check your subscription feed and scroll through until you are caught up from the previous time you checked it. pretty simple really.

Honestly we are boring in USA, everywhere looks the freaking same. except for a few cities, all suburbs and royal area's are basically exact copy pastes of each other, it's no wonder geo guesser have such difficulty figuring out where a photo is in USA without licensee plates and signs saying what state it is, we all look the same boring blueprint everywhere. Only thing that may change slightly is the nature if you go out in a rural area.
