In this Slay the Spire gameplay, Baalorlord does an Ascension 20 run with Defect. First, he gives tips on choosing a path and a starting bonus. Later on, he explains his decision for each card he chooses and why it's important to the build. Towards the end, he gears up for an epic Heart fight you don't want to miss. I loved how orbs weren't really a thing with the deck, until the heart fight when all the doubled powers turned them into a major damage source.

Pretty weird that people didnt notice that since it happens quite often if you play echo form. But it does highlight why I enjoy watching Baalor more than other StS players - he is so great at communicating the mechanics and reasoning through his plays. He is a great player to watch and learn from at the same time.

I just played a silent game. My first two relics were dead branch and ice cream, and my first eight cards were 3 blade dances, 2 concentrates, 2 acrobatics, and 1 outmaneuver. Holy hell did that turn into the funnest and MOST CHAOTIC run I've never had.

FYI, kept my cards limited to blade dances, exhaust cards, draw/discard cards, and energy cards, got a pandoras box which gave me almost exclusively the cards I wanted, and beat the heart in 4 turns on Ascension 20. Also had busted crown and coffee dripper (5 base energy per turn), and sacred bark, both caltrops and alchemize bottled, a liquid bronze potion, and the alchemize gave me ANOTHER liquid bronze (17 thorns total from the start of the match). Plus, if that wasn't enough luck, I was lucky enough to get multiple adrenalines, wraith forms, and finishers from dead branch (got at least 1 of each in that first turn alone). It was the funnest bloodbath I've ever experienced in this game.

"We're kinda done with orbs this run" -> spends over an hour constructing the perfect claw deck -> kills heart with primarily orb damage and a bunch of focus. Dead branch be like that.

Not to one-up this incredible run, but the same weekend I first watched this I had a heart fight where I reached 9 stacks of echo form. I'm pretty sure that's the most I've ever had in a single fight.

Winning a run with two copies of the card means it's mastered. Relics are Mastered by winning a run with it. He's trying to master every card and every relic.

Hey anyone who reads this, I have a question, when he echo formed the sunder in the gremlin leader fight, could he of technically used the card exhume and bring it back because the second one exhausted. And then technically have two sunders in the fight from then on?

No. When something doubles a card when it is played (without putting it in your hand/draw/discard pile), the copy doesn't go to exhaust pile. It just vanishes

What is the 'not mastered' tag on some cards? Is that some mod?

In 2023, Baalor challenged himself to win an A20 heart run with 2 copies of every card in his deck at least once. In order to better track which cards he had or hadn't "mastered" yet, he used a mod that added that tag to cards. -Tomagathericon, Baalorlord Community Manager

It doesn't change the gameplay, but is just an extra challenge he's set for himself. The mod only assists in showing what hasn't been mastered.

I personally think dream catcher is one of the most useless relics there is, on par with Boot. At least Boot gives you an edge against Nemesis.

I think it's a tier above the worst relics (ceramic fish, hand drill, boot, darkstone periaps, cauldron..)

I'd say Dreamcatcher, Hand drill, Juju Bracelet, Boot, and tiny chest. At least Ceramic Fish gives you something to think about, and can be worth 100 or more gold.

@@etiennechaplais1764 I'd rather have ceramic fish and it's about a tie for me for boot. Darkstone Periaps is pretty bad but I so rarely get it that I don't feel that same "ugh" as I do when I get dream catcher. I've only ever bought hand drill and cauldron twice because I wanted 100% completeness. They don't stand out to me because I'll never get them from a chest or elite encounter.

The key is that the bottled relics take up one space in the opening draw. so let’s say he gets a few seek+ later. The guaranteed zap turn one is going to reduce the odds of drawing those seeks by 20% (assuming he doesn’t have bag of preparation). So it’s even worse than not having it bottled

Also imagine taking zap bottled and then getting the option to take reprogram with a claw deck. Do you still want to get zap on turn one? I think you’d even rather remove zap over strike in that case.

baalor seems like a solid all around dude. pretty rare to be that smart and still be a bastard, but it can be done. too bad the rest of twitch/yt isn't exactly overwhelmed by such considerate humans. lotta shitters out there unfortunately
