I know they are friends but even still, how many grapplers do you see inviting someone on to show a technique that they got beaten with? Lachlan is such an awesome humble person and amazing teacher at that.

I've never liked outside ashi. I have used 50/50 for over a decade and always loved if I could get my foot across or get the opponent to bring it across. I used to do this move a ton from 50/50, but it was the only real option back before the leg lock explosion. Now I find myself using it to get to 90/10 more then the leg drag or passing position

I felt the same about the outside ashi, although I wasn't sure if it was just my lack of expertise on the position.

What about under hooking the leg, like the grip you typically use in the x-guard. Seems like then it would be more difficult for opponent to turn you on your back

What do you think about entering to outside ashi, then transitioning to something else immediately after? I used to play outside ashi because it was easy to get to, then guys started to figure out how to counter. These days, I'll get to outside ashi and go straight to 50/50.

i do the same thing, especially against taller guys, outside ashi they will reach right around to your back, i switch to fifty/fifty or i attack the kimura and bail back to some make shift guard.

In 50/50 the opponents leg is across your body so you are trapping their foot with your other arm.
