This is a step-by-step instructional video on how to make a traditional Filipino parol which was handed down by our maternal grandparents to our mother who, in turn, handed it down to us. From the time that my siblings and I were teenagers, it has always been a tradition in our family to make this parol in time for the first simbang gabi on December 16. It stopped only when I went to work in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 1983. From the time I came home for good in 2000 until last year, I was able to make one only about five times.
I encourage you to try and learn how to make this. The traditional Filipino parol is so beautifully and simply unique that Disney used it as the central theme of their 2020 Christmas ad. Let's preserve and keep this unique Filipino Christmas tradition going for future generations.
