This was a fantastic video, David. I learned so much by watching you work and listening to you explain you color scheme and values. Please continue to make these watercolor videos. Other artists are offering loose watercolor teaching, but rarely can one find pure abstract watercolor teaching. Thanks!

I love the fact that you use big brushes and paint with your arm/shoulder. It’s how I love to paint and you don’t see many painters in watercolour apply paint that way.

You’re right there are not many wc painters that use large brushes. So many of them are too tight. Thanks for watching!

What a beautiful painting! I'm confused tho. Initially I saw you turn the paper over to wet the surface, and you referred to it as the 'back'. You didn't turn it back again. You said you were using the 'rough' finish on the paper. I am baffled as to why you wouldn't have turned it over again. Perhaps you did turn it and the editing was so good it didn't show? I'm a beginner and am hanging onto every word in order to learn. :-)

@@griffinharvey3910 it is a bit confusing - sorry for that. Somehow in editing I didn’t show me turning the paper over. I wet in thoroughly on the back, turn it over, soak it on the front, then squeegee the water off with a sponge - this leaves me with damp paper, but not wet on the surface. Then I am ready to paint. Sorry for the confusion, and thanks for watching.

I love your watercolor abstracts. Please do more of these. Is it possible to try your acrylic “Good Morning Seattle” in watercolor? I love that painting and am wondering how you would approach this style in watercolor.

Thank you. I have more wc videos in the pipeline. Good Morning Seattle could be done in watercolor I suppose, although I don’t have much desire to do a demo in that. In acrylic I painted in dark to light, and with watercolor it would be painted from light to dark. You should try it!

I just got into watercolor and even got the same paint and paper you use. Thanks for saying the name of the paint. How do you dispose of the dirty paint water? I’m trying to dispose of it responsibly but I don’t know how (this is an especially big problem when I use acrylic paint.)

You’ll need to research how to dispose of your dirty water. It may be different depending on where you live.
