Seems to be a crafty idea indeed and Id like to forward this vid to a client who can do the fabrication shown here BUT theres 1 major important missing detail you've left out on how your L&R side pully strings function in order to roll the shades bars up & down. I dont see how your design here will actually work.

That window is huge!! To be honest, I'm not sure this system would perform well on a window that big, but if you were going to try, at minimum I think you'd need larger structural pieces. Like instead of a 1x2, use a 2x4. Make the dowel rods 1" diameter. Use a thick nylon rope instead of string. I also think you'd need a middle column of rings to help pull up something that large.

I love how she is quick to the point, especially when one is not too picky on how to prepare the fabric so long as it does the job. Every couple of years I like to update my window treatments anyway .

@@PalouseweaverIt may seem harsh, but I sorta agree. It doesn’t cost much more to do them properly. My mom had a drapery shop when I was younger, so I grew up learning to make draperies. You don’t have to be a professional, but a little extra prep, will make a lot of difference, down the road. Always press your fabric before starting, any project. 1 1/2” side hems a must. You’re opening French doors a lot. You need to have the edges and bottom hem protected from fraying. I used a 2” bottom hem with a rod pocket. Heavier dowel rods for a better appearance, when hung. I did the rest pretty much the same. I used Velcro, on the boards, without the brackets. I’m looking into magnetic shades, but the ones on line look cheap to me. Will be doing my own variation. Hope this helps. This lady has the right idea, for cheap, quick and easy, but a little extra prep makes a big difference and like the other commenter, don’t ever wash. Thanks for the video, though. I just wrapped the strings around the lock on the window!

She says the first string gets tied in place on the right side (from her point of view) and left loose on the left side to operate the shade. For the second string, it is fed through the left side only (again, her point of view) up through to the top eye screw and then back down to the bottom ring. One end of the second string is tied and the other end left loose to operate the shade. Therefore, two ends will be loose on the left side for operation. Hope that makes sense.😊

@@stargazer0001 it does make sense. The long string ist to operate the right side, the shorter string is to operate the side it's on, so the left side in this case. Now I have a clear and logical picture in my mind. Thanks to the video and your comment I might succeed with using up fabric and creating a Roman blind 🥰 Thank you! Edit: I changed my mind about the execution. I have two cats that love to look through the windows and play with string, so the string version is potentially to dangerous. But I found the linked version with magnets quite helpful 🤩 I think I have some suitable magnets in my stash ☺

I used two yards of fabric for a 64" window. In general, you need the length of your window + 7 inches of fabric.

Do you mean an outside mount of the window? It should be in about the same place, 3-4 inches in from the end of the 1x2. You'll just cut the 1x2 longer for an outside mount.
