It can happen to anyone. My high school shop teacher was one of the most talented persons with woodworking tools I had ever seen and he was missing the first two joints of his left index and middle fingers.

Its funny/annoying when everything could be cleared up with 'Cut the crap or we contact the police' Especially when 2nd brother is a lawyer, no need for schemes. The internet is a thing send a photo of the the actual sister to all the employees. And the head maid whose worked for the family for years, she'll have to be fired because no way would I keep on someone whose letting their daughter steal their identity. For her years of work just buy her a nice house in the countryside give her a little money.

As a Guitarist and occasional woodworker, I try to avoid amputating a finger or Thumb. That’s my Rule of Thumb. Couldn’t resist. Actually sorry for your accident. So often things go bad so quickly and so randomly that it happens before you realize it! Hope you get proper treatment and go on with a happy life!

My father was a master carpenter since the age of 18, he was admitted into a closed shop by a relative when he was a kid. He told me that no one was allowed into the shop who couldn't concentrate for very long, they were required to do measurement calculations mentally. If you couldn't do that they kicked you out. Someone cutting his finger would be the most shameful thing that could happen in that shop. I wouldn't have made it because I can't do mental math, I would probably also have gotten my hands cut off too in that type of environment. But I still love wood working as a hobbyist, I just make sure I don't fall asleep when using dangerous machines, which for me is mostly the table saw.

The only thing to learn is that if you don't fully understand and respect the tool, and both know how to, and use the guards and safety systems, you shouldn't be using it.

I'm a retired journeyman Cabinet maker and have seen this happen too often. People purchase a miter or table saw and think they are professionals because they own a saw, only to cut off digits. Excuses like "everyone makes mistakes" won't bring back your fingers. Every accident I witnessed over the years was easily preventable and happened to two categories of people. Number one was the inexperienced and untrained. And then there is the second group, People who should never be allowed near a tool of any kind. These are the people who drive a motorcycle down the road at 150 MPH weaving between cars without considering the possible consequences. There have been many TV and KZfaq people over the years who make money by pretending they are woodworkers, "Handy ma'am" comes to mind. I think the show lasted one season, I wonder to this day if she ended the show with all her fingers, she didn't even know the basics of holding a claw hammer. Tools are not a joke. The lucky ones lose a finger, some lose a hand, and some can lose their lives. Don't be stupid, if you have any doubts about using a saw, stay away from it. Edited: I must add I'm not talking about the nutcase Tik Tok "Handy ma'am" who doesn't know what gender he is. I'm talking about the TV show female host "Handy ma'am." However, if you are too nuts to know what gender you are, you more than likely also shouldn't be using a saw.

Seems I remember someone made a saw with extremely quick shut off, should the sensor detect an issue like you describe ! Test showed that a Hot Dog pushed into a spinning blade, would barely receive damage to its surface ! Maybe something you should consider, if planning on using equipment like this ! Don't be too hard on yourself, as there are plenty of folks walking around with digits missing, all from one miscalculation ! GODSPEED with your healing ! 👍😉......oops ! Disregard the Thumb ! 😂🤣😂

A. You're not applying it correctly B. Who in their right mind pays $4+ for coffee!? Both need head examination. Next time pull a damp rag over your painter's tape after applying. Paint. Remove tape before paint fully dries. Don't spend $2 on shit masking tape, $8 on Modge Podge, $4 on foam applicators, and waste a bunch of time in the process. Learn how to properly use the proper tools for the job and quit being hacks. No thanks necessary.

May he rest in peace but i had a friend working on a table saw in a room with florescent lights. He turned away for a moment and looked at the saw blade and it appeared to have stopped. He started to grab the blade (a moment of not thinking) and went to grab the blade to see if motor had seized. Well, he took off half his thumb. He knew better, we all know better but just a moment of not thinking. Things happened. I asked him to retell the story about6 months latter and we almost died 😂 ng. Strange story but non the less true.

I feel for you, but you had probably had close calls that you ignored previously, that allowed youlower your guard around tools. To the point where you got so laxed you had a traumatic incident. The way you fix your brain farts is to raise you bar of what you consider unsafe. Such as , having your hand anywhere near a moving blade, ever. Just a tip (pun intended) .

you needed a different doctor. when a doctor says, let's hope for the best. spends 3 hours without fixing it, just go to a different doctor. Should have done it immediately not the next day or next week. if a doctor is taking more than 15 mins to deal with such an injury, switch the doctor. I can say this, US doctors are not good, they treat even serious injuries based on when they can fit into their timeline and not the urgency of the injury. No injury is not unrecoverable, unless it has been ground. I still remember, by knee surgery and developing a clot, the answer from the surgeon was, come back on Monday as it was Saturday. A clot can kill you in hour, when stressed on the urgency the answer was to contact my personal doctor.

Thanks for sharing! Take aways: Have all the necessary emergency information and First Aid kit at hand in case of an accidente and also your mobile / cell phone in the pocket with the numbers easy to find. Every second counts. Learn what you can self do the first minutes to minimise the consequences in case of an accident. Have Ice, disinfection, scissors, sticking plasters and whatever necessary, remember the actions you take the first minutes after an accident are essential in the process of later recovery. Learn all safety measures related to the power tools you use and relearn them regularly, there is always something new to learn. Rehearsal of actions before doing them can safe you from an accident as you can then plan what actions you have not thought about and than keeps you focus on them. Do not get distracted by music, podcasts, calls or anyone when using power tools. Never forget, a split of a second can change your life forever! Stay focus stay saved! And last but not least, circular and table saws are fast yes but think twice if you really need to use them for everything, the safest power tool are the ones you do not use. I personally would never use a circular saw for anything, they are a beast who can really harm you. For DIY I find you do not really need to use those, circular saws kickbacks can be really harm you, same for table saws but at least table saws do not mover from where they are. Always when possible use a miter saw and fixers so that your finders and hands are always save.

Have you tried to put clips to hold the material? I believe there are ones that can be used in any machine. Also, I recommend using a masking so things do not look to burnt and instead of cutting the design you could try scoring it.

My mistake was attempting to clear a snow blower chute with my hand. I always carried a stick after that. My hand was in a heavy mitten with a leather palm. The pain was out of sight!! It was 11 on a scale of 1-10. My wife drove me to the local HCHP facility. I nearly fainted in the elevator. I took off the mitten. The end of my finger was holding on by the nail. The bone was shattered into pieces. They gave me a big shot of Demerol in my butt. It had zero effect. So, they did a ring block. That worked, and I was suddenly feeling the Demerol. High as in Rocky Mountain High. They could not fix the finger and sent me to a specialist in Cambridge **the same day**. He put it back together after debriding it. During this process, he entertained me with stories such as people losing ALL of their fingers to a rotary lawnmower. One of them came having done the other hand the same way! The hand specialist was very good. If you have a serious hand injury, you must have a specialist to have the optimal result. The tip of my finger was numb for years but slowly recovered feeling. I guess that nerves can grow back. Today (decades later), the finger looks different and has a monster scar. Once bitten, twice shy. I was lucky to save my left middle finger. I use my miter saw and table saw constantly. I have had a few close calls and never repeated the same action. The table saw is probably the most dangerous tool in your shop. Band saws are also scary!

I didn't want get preachy but I stopped woodworking until I could afford a Sawstop after my youngest son suddenly popped in front of me and said he wanted to help me. Fortunately I swatted his hand away from the blade and no one was hurt, but that was my moment. It took me 18 months to save up for the Sawstop, but it's been the best woodworking purchase I've ever made. You will love yours! Hope your thumb is OK by now,
