Very good video! The only thing I struggled with was the power steering line. I ended up having to disconnect it and move it out of the way; there was no way to remove or install the compressor with the hard line connected to the rubber hose. I greatly appreciate the detail and time you put into this.

I would strongly suggest buying the Serpentine belt replacement tool kit made by Husky if you are going to attempt this job on a 2012 Nissan Altima. There is very limited space to access the tension pulley that releases the serpentine belt so using a conventional ratchet is very difficult. For me that was the most challenging part of the replacement and that tool made it much easier.

Great video, just two things that would help people the oil you are using has dye in it don’t use it to lube O rings, when a tech looks at it for leaks which it will have since you put on the wrong diameter o rings it will be very confusing for him to find the leak.

It is fine if oring is a little bigger if you cant find the exact size. It's worse when using smaller size cuz oring will stretch and won't seal as good. It's been many years since I did this and my AC still blows cold and no leaks. Good point about the dye though! Thank you for your input!

This video is amazing. You make it very easy for a tenuous amature like me. I will try it. The service shop wants almost $1,000 for my 2011 altima compressor that won't turn on any more. No way. One question: why is one of the compressor oils you use bright green, but the other you poured into the compressor clear? Is there a difference? Where do I buy the bright green kind? Thank you, Bthomassen
@DIYtime
@DIYtime 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks, that's because I amateur myself, so I explained everything on amateur level... 😁 Green oil is what was inside compressor from factory. It contains special dye for leak detection. It glows on UV light... When I bought replacement compressor, it came prefilled with regular oil, so I didn't bother to look for original OEM one.

I haven't touched mine, but I don't think it is too complicated. Remove bumper and front grill (shown here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oZpygtud37y7ZIU.html ) Once that is done, you'll have easy access to condenser. And then it probably should have two pipes connected to it and couple brackets holding it.

Me. DIY time, I will be replacing my compressor as well on my 08, and with it the expansion valve and receiver dryer. My question is, does it matter what order we do it on? Thanks
@DIYtime
@DIYtime 4 жыл бұрын
I would do receiver drier last, to make sure it doesn’t get any moisture inside it while you working on the other stuff. It is supposed to be sealed and with minimal air contact, and it is designed to collect moisture inside the system. You don’t want it to become too saturated before you even seal the system.

Great video, but I'm confused about oil fill. Isn't the full 150cc of oil you put in only for a complete system flush and if you just replace a compressor, aren't you supposed to adjust the added oil quantity down to account for the amount that's trapped throughout the system? I'm installing a Denso compressor (it comes with oil) and the installation guide says to match the amount of oil in the new compressor to the amount in the old compressor. No oil came out of either my new or old compressors at the ports where the Freon lines connect (where you added the oil in your video). But I was able to drain 120cc from the new compressor when i removed the bolt from the port that's near the Freon lines, but closer to the clutch end of the compressor. I refilled it at this port with about 25cc, which is the amount that came out of the old compressor at that port. Does this sound correct?
@DIYtime
@DIYtime 6 жыл бұрын
Every situation is different. My compressor was leaking, so there was no oil left in it. I used a chart from factory repair manual to find how much oil is needed in my particular situation.
@Justin-rv1mm
@Justin-rv1mm 6 жыл бұрын
The Nissan Altima service manual says to drain the old compressor and new compressor into separate containers, then fill the new compressor to match the amount of oil that was in the old compressor. If you had a large leak or are replacing the following parts add this amount of oil: Large leak 30 ml, Small leak no oil required, Evaporator 75 ml, Condenser 75 ml, Receiver-drier 5 ml.

Great video I have a 09 Nissan Altima that has a couple nasty leaks at the o rings. The compressor looks new, the previous owner had it changed at one point. Would i just need to replace the o rings, vacuum the system and recharge or would I have to change out other parts like the receiver dryer?
@DIYtime
@DIYtime 5 жыл бұрын
They probably didn't use new orings when replacing the compressor... It recommended to replace receiver drier every time you open the AC system. Otherwise moisture can cause some damage to it. Good news is it is easy to do and doesn't cost much.

What if the compressor doesn't start after it has been replaced? What some good troubleshooting tips? Thanks so much for this video!

The pressure in AC system should be correct, otherwise pressure sensor/switch won't engage the compressor.

it's likely your original issue wasnt the compressor

I saw your video on replacing just the clutch. I wanted to do that, but apparently they don't sell a rebuild kit for the 2012 sentra 2.5. My compressor turns easily, looks fine, and gets power. The clutch just doesn't engage.

Check your local u-pull junk yards if they have your car. You can usually get it for very cheap, something like $20. You'll just need take it off yourself, but this would be a good practice...

then the problem is likely the clutch gap is too wide and just needs adjusting by removing a shim or changing to a smaller size

@ 8:50 was the green o ring not too large? The one on the bottom left looks like a better match with the old black one. Please correct me if I am wrong.
@DIYtime
@DIYtime Жыл бұрын
Yes, it was a bit larger. I didn’t have a perfect match. Larger is ok, it will seal the pipes anyway. It’s worse if the ring is smaller - it will stretch and become less in diameter, and wont make a good seal.

@@DIYtime Do you think it would be okay to just reuse the old o rings if they don't look bad?

No, they will fail very soon after. Spend extra $10 to save a lit of headache.

does 2014 Altima compressor come preloaded with oil, or does it need to be added before install?

+Frank amaral It all depends where you are buying it from. Just read the description when buying the compressor.

I have a 07 Nissan Altima and I'm trying to figure out if I need to replace it or is there a bad leak. I have recharged my car with the AC pro but the line got cold when the car was on and AC on max but a minute later it went back to hot. I'm looking at the ac compressor but the thing that is suppose to turn, does not turn. and I tried it manually, and it turns. Do you think is the compressor or a leak?
@DIYtime
@DIYtime 6 жыл бұрын
You'll need to check pressure in the system. If it is in good range, then there is no leak. If there is a small leak, the pressure gets too low and AC compressor won't turn on. If there is no pressure, you have a big leak. You'll need AC manifold gauge to check pressure.

What was harder and/or took longer...the whole compressor or the compressor clutch?
@DIYtime
@DIYtime 3 жыл бұрын
About the same. However, in my case I had a leak and all refrigerant was gone, which made it a lot easier. Otherwise you have to properly evacuate Freon first, which will require special equipment or trip to a mechanic. After repair, you will have to recharge the system, which also requires special equipment. With clutch replacement, you are not opening the system.

Do I need to vacuum the AC Compressor two pipes even if I"m just replacing the AC compressor and not the expansion vavle/drier ? Thanks
@DIYtime
@DIYtime 5 жыл бұрын
It is one sealed system. When you replacing any of the components, you must evacuate the system, and after you are done, pull vacuum.

whenever the system is opened, a small amount of moisture gets in which needs to be removed by vacuuming it down for atleast a half hour

Try to spray it with penetrating grease and use impact drill. It does wonders with stuck bolts. Maybe borrow it from someone if you don't have it.
