what a great find...I never got into the OBD but seeing how it works, it makes the job a lot more easier than testing fuses and wires and every other possibility on what could go wrong...how many shops would have sold them a compressor or condenser or the whole a/c system for a simpler wire connection fix.....great job and you make us old school mechanics proud

Yep...says much about how much a shop will do for a customer when the fix is just around the corner in a salvage yard. Self employment is wonderful if your shop works like anyone would think in locating parts the same day etc. Problem is, a lot of self employed folks treat their business as if they are an employee vs. the shop director and using their noggin the best way for their business. So far, Wilbert's is a lifesaver for Avoca and Bath as is SMA in taking the advantages to get real legitimate results for his shop.

Neat trick I learned from working as a Nissan Technician is an IPDM test. Most Nissans with IPDMs you can Turn the ignition on/engine off, press the door switch 10 times, turn the switch off then back on and the Horn will go off. It will cycle through components that the IPDM controls. Lights, Horn, wipers, cooling fans, and AC compressor. It's a quick way to check if the component is getting the signals from the IPDM. Helped me diagnose a lot of bad a/c compressor.

Man, this is really becoming the effortlessly finding broken wires channel!! I service a lot of AC systems and get a lot that are holding pressure under the service caps so that's a great tip about the o-rings to save you replacing a Schrader valve

Tighten the Schrader just a smidge that usually stops pressure under the cap.
@ablackformula

@@ablackformula Not necessarily. A weak valve could leak at 150psi but hold at 140 psi; when 10psi builds up under the cap, the valve only sees 140 pressure differential and closes. The cap in this scenario is only holding 10 psi.
@ablackformula
@ablackformula 2 жыл бұрын
@@DaddyBeanDaddyBean Interesting and understood. Thanks for clearing that up! I've always just checked and considered the valve to be the only seal of the valve/cap assembly. I compare it to a tire schrader valve of a tire/wheel assembly. I don't check for o-rings on the valve cap there either lol.

You're the man Eric, thanks again for helping out another Nissan Owner. I currently own two of them myself a 2001 Nissan R50 Pathfinder 4X4 with 3 pedals and 2 sticks and a 2015 Nissan Altima. About two years ago I had an issue with the A/C in my Altima, it ended up needing a replacement high-side pressure line. So when I saw you looking at that line first I thought for sure it was gonna be the cause of the issue for this customer. The repair you made to the pressure switch was quite the cheap fix (JUNKYARD PARTS FOR THE WIN) My high-side pressure line was sawed through by my vertical support that sits right next to that line (NICE DESIGN NISSAN) good news is the replacement line was bent far away from that said vertical support. So I would say this customer made out like a bandit! Chis.

Absolutely about the caps they help keep contaminants from entering the system and is the final seal for the service ports. I carry those pigtails on my service van as I am a mobile tech and see a ton of damaged connectors and corroded wiring. Great thing about used engines they typically come with a partial harness that can harvest pigtails from which can fit a multitude of different OE'S. I normally have new but used is a great option on very hard to find pigtails

We bought our ‘95 mercury villager (Nissan quest clone) in 2000 with 50,000 miles. Around 200,000, the AC system had a leak. Turned out to be a puncture hole in the metal AC line under the vehicle under the seat behind the driver. Up until that point AC was working just fine. I am impressed with what I presume is a Nissan AC system. It’s now at 300,000, and just now starting to feel like it needs A little servicing.

My future wife worked machining connecting rods for the Big Seven Five. Every time you say "the big two..." I laugh out loud. Thank you Erick my AC randomly stopped working everything checks out hearing you say it could just be low makes me wonder if it just needs a charge. All electrical is good no leaks condenser looks fine. I’ve been told it’s a sealed system there should be no leaks but hearing you say cars happen to loose some gas in system makes me think now maybe just needs a charge I don’t think the cars ever had the AC maintained

Found that alldata is not always correct for capacities. Hooked my van up at the shop I work at now. Pulled out 1.7, Alldata said my capacity was 2.9# with Rear A/C. GM data showed 2.2. That's a pretty big difference! Was nice to be able to do it right this time.

I know it sounds weird, but we do enjoy the field trips. Especially when you go to the u-pull. Something about running around a scrap yard.

You Sir, have a gift for finding broken wires. I have had my truck for 10 years now ( 9 yrs old when I got it) and haven't had the A/C services, and it blows ICE cold. I wouldn't mind getting a service done, but nervous about opening a system that seem to be running great.

Honestly the fact that it hasn’t been serviced is probably why it still works. No wearing out of the shrader valves and leaking.
