The liftgate support struts are too weak to hold up the gate. Really simple fix, parts are about $20 per side.

my suburban did the same thing - but when i backed into a pole we got it repaired.

There is a recall on this issue. I have an 2011 Acadia Denali, haven't had the lift gate problem like this. That's dangerous!

They had a recall on this and you could get it serviced for free. We had this happen on our traverse except it would slam all the way down and we got it repaired before the recall and we got reimbursed after the recall.

I have a 2008 Outlook with over 160k miles. I started having all the same problems that you guys are listing but I found a fix and haven't had any problems since then..... Cause of all problems - water getting in through both sun roofs (too expensive to take it to the dealership). I noticed that problems started after a rainy day. traction light, transmission fail, stay running after taking key out, check engine light-engine hot a/c off plus water dripping all over the interior. Nightmare..... at first I would unplug the battery (located under rear/passenger seat) for about 45+mins, plug it back in and everything would go back to normal. but problems would comeback due to more water getting in. after a few months I finally decided to silicone around both sun roofs (will not be able to open front sunroof). left doors open on sunny day (ensure completely dry) and problems never happen again. Lately once in a while check engine light will come on and transmission will not shift up. I noticed it only happens when quick take off when engine still cool. I will stop turn off truck wait a minute or so and turn back on and it would run fine again but check engine light would go off after driving for a while. Over all I have enjoyed the truck a lot since then. will definitely buy GM again.

There is now a software update included with an extended warranty on this issue. Dealer will flash the computer and replace struts if they need replacing or 90 days afterward of the Re-flash.

Took my '11 Enclave to the dealer for a bad water pump @ 43k miles and it turns out mine had a recall for the same thing. The power lift gate would droop if left open for longer than a minute or so but never came down like that.

This car is quite impressive when off roading mine is stock we went through some mud then sand but we stopped to check out the view but when we tried to back out we got stuck but I had a shovel took like 5 to 10 minutes to get it unstuck but after that we went through more bumpy off road roading stuff we test approach angle and everything it was fun

I have 2008 Outlook. changed 1 strut. problem fix. normal tear and wear.

I had a Buick Enclave that did that same thing all you had to do is remove the two hydraulic bars have a vice clamped under one and replace the other and do the same thing to replace the other

wow watching this just deterred me from even considering the Acadia/Enclave/Traverse period

I don't agree that all GMC products are garbage. This particular tailgate issue was dangerous, but we've had many GM vehicles and they are very nice and reliable.

I've seen this in the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It was fixed at the dealership in under a day for under $100 total.

Funny mine started to do this today too after our snowstorm in CT. However, it was a slow close, and the last sec it closed fast. Not at all like this one dropped fast. I am guessing my struts are bad. Mine is a 2012. What year is this one??

There are three bars powing your liftgate two help lift it and is on all cars thats what needs to be replaced and because you tailgate did tgat the bar that is powered that is only on one side I would get checked out because of all the wait forcing it down (:
