this formula is different to the one I learned at CIPFA. which is H= 3Z - 2L, The numbers do not match.

The formula used in this lecture are the formulas provided in the ACCA exam.

Do I really need to use scientific calculator?

A scientific calculator is essential for some of the calculations (for example, you might have to take a 5th root for some of the techniques). However there is a scientific calculator built into the computer based exam software so you do not have to use your own. Also, for Section C questions you can use the functions available within the spreadsheet. Just make sure you have practiced the CBE specimens on the ACCA website so that you do not waste time in the real exam.
