I had a 2020 M340i, traded it in and regretted it every day. So of course I then ordered a 2022 M340i last year, easily the best car I've ever had. If you're considering it, honestly just go for it. 2019-2022 is better IMO because of the lack of shifter/physical buttons in the new gen, but this car will put a smile on your face for years.

For a channel that has such remarkable video editing and jaw-dropping camera work, it breaks my heart that this channel is relatively stagnated after all this tremendous work. If I had to REACH for meaningful, constructive criticism it would be to tone-down the "Hypebeast" nature of the energy and MAYBE optimize those thumbnails to photo shoot areas with environments that make the vehicles feel special and unique. This visual set that you guys have is awesome, BUT does not play well to the favor of every vehicle (as it pertains to the thumbnail). Owning a 2023 Range Rover Sport myself, I think that vehicle (as is also evidenced by the view count) works beautifully for this type of initial photoshoot for the thumbnail. You guys OUTDID yourselves with that Hummer Thumbnail and the visuals provided throughout that glorious video. I think some essence of nature or more keenly, ENVIORNMENT that captures the UNIQUE personality of the vehicles could certainly boost that initial click rate for people to be able to give your content the meaningful quantity of views your collective work deserves.

You just do so much disservice to the M340i by proclaiming it's for people that "can't afford an M3". I pay cash for all my cars and can easily afford two M3's if I want, I bought an M340i because it's a better DD on the street, the fact that it's cheaper is just a bonus. (and besides, the M3 I priced out was only $12k more, if you can afford $65K, you can afford $80k). They are different cars for different purposes, they have different strengths and weaknesses. Too many reviewers miss the opportunity to talk about where the M340i really shines, which is as a street car, that is the right size, weight, and HP to enjoy on public roads. In your review when you are searching for words about how fun it is to drive, that's the formula that makes it a fun street car to wring out, you get to use all of it and drive it to the limit. The M3 feels over-powered to me for the street, and actually less engaging to drive, because you can't tap all it's potential on the street, it feels restrained and constrained, it needs a track to get the same fun that you get out of the M340 on the street.

Friend has the new M440. Originally hated the new big ass dash but actually driving around with it, I love it.

I bought this exact car as my First fun/ daily car. Its the best, driving from Mazda Cx5 and Cx8. The handling is amazing. I could have bought the 2021 model but theres just something about the new headlight that makes it look more aggressive and sleek. I like the new digital gauge because it look’s updated and modern with less button which i prefer. The only thing I thought I didn’t like before I bought it was the shifter being that small because im used to driving manual and cars with regular shifters. But the small shifter just grows on you. I highly recommend this. I bought mine with all the options except the performance tire and cooling and the leather seats.

Drove an m3 comp and one of these back to back and walked away with an order placed for the m340i Price wasn’t the main factor, comfort was and as someone who will never go to a track, the m340 just felt more comfortable for a daily commuter. Seats are softer, throttle response in sport mode isn’t as twitchy and suspension was more comfortable. I completely understand the appeal of the M3 but I felt like it was a bit too hard for city commuting. I also really liked the m550i and M5 but I feel like the m340i is the price to performance sweet spot.

There are many other reasons why you would pick this one over the M3 than price. I was first looking at the M3 Touring but when I learned I couldn't get it with a sunroof, a towbar nor the preheat functionality that will save you from having to get rid of snow and ice during the winter season, going with the M340i was the clear choice for me. If you don't care about those things and spend your weekends on a track, the M3 is probably the better option for you. As for the shortcuts you said are gone in the LCI, that isn't true. You still have your shortcuts, only they have been moved to the infotainment screen rather than being physical buttons.

I have pre LCI (2021) - I hate tech - I am old. I wouldn't take a new one if you paid me. Good DD and great for carving canyons and on ramps - great video. FUN to drive every time I get in it.

It had electrification before the LCI, the thing with the shifter sux, use to be you could shift manually using the console or the paddles, being able to shift manually with the console was easier while turning, not sure if you can do that anymore.

I got a 2021 320d xdrive last week and I love it, (after driving a 2017 Hyundai elantra) Can’t imagine how fun the m340i model is though. Too bad we don’t get them in xdrive here

Old version is the best I’ve had both, louder exhaust note, physical gear stick, HVAC buttons, better diffuser, looks better outside, no heavy hybrid system, bigger pops and bangs.

Great review! I prefer the looks of the LCI. AutoTopNL mentioned that the steering feel is improved on the LCI as well which would be a great plus.

I don't think I've driven the refreshed version (so I guess it was a 2022 I drove) but the one I drive was amazing! This really feels like an M3 from a few years ago. The current M3 (especially the Comp) is a rocket & is right at home on the track where if you take it on the interstate or highways (especially in the North East) and you are going to feel kind of beat up even if the suspension is set on Comfort mode. This is where the M340i shines! The ride is something I could daily without a problem, but the M3/4 I think I would get tired of it, especially paying what it cost. I'm not crazy about the display. I kinda hate the lack of buttons. I really think I would try to find a 2022 or mid year 2023 (if there is such a thing - whatever model year didn't get this update). I've also been in a 2022 X3, X4, X5, X7, 5 & 7 series, all with the Mx40i package and it is an amazing engine in each of these vehicles & TBH, plenty of power even for the larger vehicles.

I've driven one in Comfort and Sport Plus! A legendary engine! A masterpiece from BMW, simply perfect!

I'm undecided between the 2024 BMW M440i Gran Coupe and the 2024 BMW M340i for family use. Seeking your opinion as a car reviewer to help determine which is a better fit, specifically in terms of drive comfort and space. Looking at the price point, m340i is almost USD9k cheaper.

I prefer the old exterior but the new interior… and well I picked up a 2020 m340i a month ago. Paid 47k for it with 16k miles on it, it came stock. Super clean and well it’s FBO now making around 500whp with also an XHP stage 3 trans tune. It’s also on H&R lowering springs on some Advan wheels with a tone of carbon fiber parts lol

Can’t you activate heated/cooled seats by voice? Why go through the screen to do that?

Current generation M3 aside. The 340i has always been the best M Performance vehicle for Canada, and dare I say regular people that wouldn’t pay over a hundred grand for a 3 season car like the previous generation RWD M3 (with all bravado and chest pounding aside) that wouldn’t fair well in winter. My 2018 340i is quick, has X-Drive, and all the M performance styling. I love it ❤.

Suggestion: Turn the music off when you rev up the engine or drive the car so we can hear the exhaust sound Love your content!

The only thing it’s missing is a panoramic sunroof, I’d like to see a big one up front and a smaller one in the rear, it always creates a really cool look in the interior in my opinion.

Back seat seems to have better hvac controls than the front :)

LCI version looks mor aggressive and muscular. The interior is a bit empty with those screens and no shifter, but as overall package, it is the best value for many.

it's pretty easy to do launch control on this car, I have this car, but you have to have more than 2k KM before it will be activated, dsc sport traction (second option), not off. sport plus. sport transmission not just D, then full brake and full accelerator and it always activates for me.

the shifter was what made me not consider this as an option, dont know why they did that.

The new one looks more modern and luxurious the only downside is the exhaust note that was better with the pre Lci.

I have to say I really like this car all around. Glad to see the back seats are actually usable now in a 3 series, I have kids so that's important to me. I may get one of these used in a couple years when I'm tired of my Audi S4.

Kind of prefer pre LCI BMW over LCI. Can still get a warranty on super low mileage and keep the superior controls while retaining same performance. In a way pre LCI are better performance because the ECU isn't locked for Staging tunes if ever desired.

Great review. If you look at the distribution of worldwide sales figures, these cars are not designed for the back to front capped, loud exhaust guys that often review and criticise these cars. Buy an M3 kids and leave these to the grown- ups who appreciate the limited chances they have to misbehave.

I believe they are kicking it out of the park with the m cars rn. M3 looks as aggressive and is as powerful as ever, mlite is as great as ever, m5 is at peak… Wonderful lineup. Obviously the xm and 7 series are dissapointing rn, But the ix is actually great (6 months ownership) and the b58 is awesome! Good job bmw coming back from 2010 reliability issues and what gave bmws bad rep.

That wasn't launch control, that was the car letting you know you activated DTC mode. You should get a better time with a proper launch.

The shifter has pretty much been a toggle for years now, its just smaller in this one. Omg "as you can see, it works perfectly" 😂🤣 The electric part of the hybrid almost makes the same horsepower alone as my last cars full gas engine. [Edit, nope I heard that wrong]

This is a great car, the only thing wrong with it is it's not a Mercedes! LOl jk. But I hate the instrument gauge cluster. Hate the way the speedometer and RPM look.

The ironic thing is the person who has the checkbook to buy this car cash, probably drives a 2004 honda accord😂 People buying these cars are financing on monthly payments 😂

This update is strange to me. The driving dynamics and styling is still great, but the quality of life stuff went way backwards. Everything in the touch screen is a massive knock, probably as a precursor to their software subscription stuff. Also, I really dislike how tacked on the screens look with that plastic bracket at the back. Wish it came as a hatch, and was a bit cheaper. Adding features that really should be standard creeps the price up a lot.

B58 engine is exceptionally underrated.

The 2022 dash looks better for me. Than spoke at the back of the screen on the rightmost side looks weird and cheap.

Come on, you are testing a car and you didn't look at how to launch it?😅 It's simple! Sport+ on the mode, Sport for the transmission, press traction button once. Then you push the gas pedal down while fully pressing the brake. You could have done sub 4s if you launched it correctly.

2020 & 2021 models gives 3.6-3.8 in 0-60 . Don’t understand why ur model is above 4.0 seconds? Not a big deal though
