wow... I fucking LOVED how honest this was. Wow. dude... "We need to spend less time on what we can't be, and we need to spend more time on what we can be" - so like, playing to your strength. But then again... Often through sheer force of determination/will/grit you CAN beat the odds. But yes... In a 7billion world, it's prolly best to identify your strengths and play on them.

I remember that day when Gary was talking over Casey and it really left a bad taste in my mouth for Gary. Gary then owned up to it and apologized which really wow'ed me. I then gave Gary a second chance and sure enough it was just a mistake and his personality ended up later appealing to me. Now I watch Gary's channel more than I watch Casey's even though I really enjoy both of their content enormously. Gary, it took guts to apologize to everyone. In the long run though you at least earned me as a subscriber and viewer because of it. This really shows the kind of character that you possess. Keep going man!

I'm a woman in a male dominated career. There is blatant sexism and it's a barrier for women trying to move up and build a career. However my dads advice was great he said yes it's harder for you and it's unfair but crying about it being unequal isn't going to change that. Focus on what you want and how you're going to get there and stop wasting energy crying that's it unfair. My dad also likes to remind me that my grandma never got to go to school despite wanting to and at least I'm not in an arranged marriage forced to be a housewife like many women in other countries still are today.

did you even watch the video, Ruth? stop feeling sorry for yourself. he just said that there are so many variables, including being a woman, that you can't even complain about those variables. If the woman in the video asked "do you think a PRETTY woman can be in the same position as you men", I guarantee you he would say yes. so for women to be complaining about men, is like ugly people complaining about pretty people or fat people complaining about fit people. there are so many variables that taking time to dwell that you can't do it because your a "woman" is your problem, not the world's. i find that most women who believe that there is an unfair advantage for men will actually sell themselves short in the long run, since they think they can't do it, to begin with. it's like if you think you can't get a job, why would you even try if you can't. it's just another excuse for women so they don't have to try as hard.

MY CRITIQUE OF THIS VIDEO: COMMENT #1: What is with the black and white? Casey looked like Larry from the Three Stooges. COMMENT #2: I like this "forget about your weaknesses" narrative you've been pushing. Tim Ferriss talks about that a lot, specifically Pareto's Law (the 80/20). Could you keep pushing this idea, and maybe even a proper call-out of the 80/20 rule and where you see it applying to social media and entrepreneurship? COMMENT #3: How can someone who is "different" (whether by gender/race/background) that would normally impede them actually LEVERAGE their difference/uniqueness? (Is FUBU an example?)
@vonasken
@vonasken 8 жыл бұрын
Why are people so afraid of this truth? The thing is based on where your from, what you look like or gender, the rules of the game are the same for everyone. The only difference is the point of access to get in the game. An African American male might have easier access using a certain path than a Caucasian women and vice versa. Your job is to figure out which pathway will get you in the game. Why keep using a key in the wrong lock? Try another door! ...

I agree with you in that this video goes beyond "accepting our realities" and hits hard on "playing to your strengths." Like Gary repeatedly states, the more self-aware we can become--and quicker--the faster our business will grow and be more stable because we will know what we are created to become, do and achieve. Therefore, figure out fast what you do well and enjoy and "Crush It!"

I think that while inequality is certainly real, it can be a huge distraction to entrepreneurs and professionals out there trying to get it. So yea Gary is right, just fucking work around it. But that should continue to be accompanied by the good work being done by people and organisations in calling out BS and improving conditions for marginalised social groups.

If only it were that simple. Those Birchbox women would have been so much wealthier and further along if the first 50 hadn't said no. They might have already sold that company and been on to their next bigger and better project. Yes they did keep at it and found you to back their company. That's great for them. But say if they were men they could have been onto company 2 or 3 by now. The gender inequality in this country cannot be summed up in a 3 minute video.

It is hurtful to know that not being born a white male is somehow a disadvantage in some aspects of life. Yet, what you say rings true. So accept it with the notion that you will help change things forever. Better be real about, help make it a world where everyone has an equal opportunity to do and be anything, rather than long for the reality you wish were true.

He built a lot for himself, and people are attracted to a rags to riches story. Literally Casey was a troubled kid, had a child early, and moved to NY on a dream. Then he grinded it out hard, sleeping on couches and trying to make it work. He fell in love with storytelling and pushed everything aside/risked it all to make it happen. Then he and his brother made it big. He then got complacent and fell off (started doing poorly, not happy, etc.) So he decided to go back to his roots and story tell again. He stumbled upon (sought out) KZfaq for its flexibility and pushed his content. Perfected* his craft and now sits as one of the current kings of visual storytelling on the medium (vlogging). His story has what everyone loves in a story. (Not to put too much of an influence on race, but he's also white, which adds to his relatability/marketability.) At the end of the day, he seems like (and from what I hear) is a REALLY GOOD DUDE, has a HUSTLERS MENTALITY and CARES ABOUT OTHERS. This attitude pushed him far and continues to propel him. I hope that answers your question. Also if you read this far, thank you. I put together case studies on other KZfaqrs in an attempt to teach and share the skills needed to be successful on this platform (and in general really). I have one planned on Casey, (and Gary for that matter) so I had to do a little research. I encourage you to check out the first two in the series over on my channel if you're interested in these sort of breakdowns. But this is already too long so, I'll end it here. Good luck to you ElefitTV, and "I hope you grow to be as strong as an elephant" ;)
