INTERNS IT'S NOT ABOUT WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO LEARN IT'S ABOUT WHO YOU'RE GOING TO MEET. INTERNSHIPS AND NETWORKING ARE ALL ABOUT MAKING HUMAN CONNECTIONS, IT'S THE PEOPLE THAT MATTER.

I was an intern last year and I didn't really learn a lot, but I made sure I spoke and interacted in conversations and also made sure everybody knew what I wanted to learn and what career I wanted to go into. 5 months of leaving, I was contacted by the Editor about if I wanted a full time position. I went back and now in a position where I have real influence within the business.

"If you're a wallflower, don't even do internships." Gary I don't often disagree with you, but I do disagree on this statement you have made. If you are a wallflower, THE ONE THING you need to do is practice your social skills and work out that "muscle." I say, if you are a wallflower, DO INTERNSHIPS. DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO GET BETTER AT MOVING AWAY FROM THAT WALL.

I got my marketing internship, which was a requirement to graduate, from connections I got working in the factory part of the company. The production manager would always go through and talk to everyone, which I loved, and we would have longer conversations about college because he went to the one I was attending. Then when I needed the internship I hit him up asking if they had anything and the rest is history.

Love this one, Gary - thank you. Im not particularly advanced in my career, but I have a job that people think is cool (for a good company). I get asked about how to get the most out of an internship, how to interview,how to advance in a career. My answer is always some version of: Find loose connections. Find a connection between what you currently do and what you'd like to do. Then give the people involved a reason to engage with you.

Networking is key. Good manners go a long way. Especially speaking to the opposite gender. If you're a man, listen closely to the women that you work with, make frequent eye contact, they will admire your dedication in being a person that gives them an interpersonal regard. Ask them how to do things properly. This demonstrates that you respect their experience and knowledge.
@victor18710
@victor18710 2 жыл бұрын
way to turn this into something sexist when it didn’t need to be. Everyone should respect each other period. not sure why u feel the need to belittle men and make them feel bad about their gender. generalizing men is not a healthy behavior and ignorance/generalizing people is honestly one of the biggest issues in today’s world

@@gabriellajones7917 but if I say, hey women, listen closely to the men you work with, and respect their experience and knowledge, then that would somehow be sexist right. Like why bring sex at all into this conversation? Why acknowledge the fact that men have to do this instead of saying everyone should do this for each other? Sex has no relation to this circumstance and therefore it was not only unnecessary but also sexist. Btw love how you are a woman telling me that this isn’t sexist lol

This was so cool to watch. I just started my summer internship this week, and one of the first books on the reading list they gave me was all about networking, which I just finished an hour ago. It totally shifted my mindset on how to network and what networking is. Oh, all of the opportunities I missed last week! Well I won't miss them next week!
