Actually, Laidlaw has said many times his rejection of conventional ideas of "canon". He only said Race X doesn't apply to HIS thinking about the universe, as in his thought process when he writes. So Race X is just about as canon as Alyx since it wasn't his ideas.

But in EP2 the texts have Vortigaunt-philosphical speaking, which clearly confirms that Gordon is being communicated or used by Vortigaunts. I've always liked the idea that the texts you get whenever you die or fail a mission are the reports of the G-Man. Hence why we see stuff as: Subject: Freeman Status: Hired Awaiting Assignment He has 'employers', who authorized him to 'hire' Gordon Freeman so maybe these are the reports he has to send them on his progress.

i wonder if city 14 is just Ravenholm, and that's why trains don't stop there anymore (altough that might be a stretch, since that would imply -at least to me- that then Ravenholm should be filled with more combine technology, just lying around, but this theory would still be pretty neat if it were true)

Talking about the deaf subject, it’d be interesting if they brought it back for Gordon. Lots of fans interpret him to be deaf/heard of hearing, hence why he doesn’t speak. Although they’d then have to animate first person sign, and that would remove weapons actions during his sign. Plus it would then remove the silent protagonist, as Gordon would then have dialogue... hm. In second thought, I don’t think they would.

Noone ever mentions the light year jump in quality and presentation from beta leaks to retail release. It didn't feel like a beta, it felt like half life 1. Upon release, though, it was a whole other game.

The bit about Alyx clones and alternate timelines just seems way too silly. I’m 90% sure that Gman literally just took her to the future and had her prevent Eli’s death.

I always theorized that Lost Coast took place when Gordon and Alyx are stuck in the teleportation void for a week by the slow teleport in Nova Prospekt.

There was one thing you still missed and that was the "Who's playing piano?" part It doesn't refer to the piano playing in half life alyx but rather an ambient sound heard in the citadel in half life 2 (citadel_ambient_voices1.wav) which sounds like a distorted recording of a jazz piano being played in a restaurant or bar

I honestly believe this about the timelines thing: No one really knows how time travels work irl right? People know it's possible, but they dont know how it would affect time and space. So I think it's better for us to not think too precisely about how the HLA ending affected HL2. Imo, what happened was: Gman told Gordon in HL2EP2 to take Alyx to White Forest so she could witness her father's death, and be there at the exact moment that it happened. With this happening, he could use that specific scene as a "show" for Alyx in the past, so that she could get emotional and accept Gman's offer without thinking about the unforseen consequences (you can even notice that in the ending of HLA the scene where you see Eli's death is like a stage, with a big spotlight aiming towards Alyx hugging her father's corpse, just like a theater). So he goes back in time, gets imprisoned on purpose knowing that Alyx would try to enter the vault. By doing that, he would be able to show her that specific "show" scene, causing her to accept his offer without knowing that the price would be working for him. When she kills the advisor in the ending of HLA, in my point of view, it is as if the Alyx from the past teleported to the future and killed the advisor right at the ending of hl2ep2. But, with her being now in stasis, it wouldnt be possible for her to be at the same time in our dimension (im considering the "stasis" as an another dimension), so she simply disappears at the ending of hl2ep2. This DOESNT mean however, that all of the stuff that happened in hl2 ended up not happening, it did, but when gman putt 19 yo alyx into stasis, it would be a paradox for her to be on earth in the ending of hl2ep2, so the universe simply makes her "disappear" as a consequence of what happened. This is shown in the post credits scene, where Eli simply says "she's gone", she simply vanished because it wouldnt make sense for her to be in 2 different dimensions at the same time. Also, when you kill the advisor in the ending of HLA, you can see Eli falling, then looking side to side, looking for Alyx desperately. Too confusing right? That's why I think we shouldnt think TOO much about all of that.

"It's all a simulation" I'm 100% sure that is incorrect. Since that text that appears must be something that the G-man wrote and gave to his employers about why Gordon (or any other individual he hired) failed, and sometimes, died.

If G-man is an Advisor, who then are his "employers"? He talks about them in the whole series. I think G-man and his Employers are a fully different alien race whose goal is to use mankind as a fighting force against their enemies - Combine, and against the Xen aliens (particularly Nihilanth) to gain control over the Vortiguants for their psychic powers.

Half-Life 2 is one of my all time favorite games, Valve has truly made a a timeless classic, the story is so deep, even after all these years still new things to be found, hidden details that add to the lore, the world building is on another level, being immersed in the world, it truly feels like you are in it, The G-Man such a deep, mysterious character, we don’t know who how is, his motives, the fight against the Combine, the gameplay is top notch, the use of the Gravity Gun, environmental physics, just a masterpiece game, Valve are among the best developers in the industry, really hope they make a part 3 some day 👏👏👏

Well he put Gordon out of the job so I don’t think the “simulation” bit is a thing. Probably left over theory from the era of the matrix most likely.

I think valve is very aware of the story situation regarding Laidlaw releasing the story. Thinking about it: making a story that everyone already knows about isn’t really fun or profitable. (Take HL2beta as a good example - they scrapped it almost completely) So they took into account the possibilities of continuing the story without discrediting what Laidlaw had sated. Based on what Eli is saying, he is very aware that G-man took Alyx, and it is now a priority to get her back. So a clone would just complicate the story and pacing, I highly doubt valve would waste time working around something that sounds like it would take more than one game to explain. Knowing them, I am probably right. Idk if they are still going to prevent the borealis. But based on Laidlaw’s story, seems like no matter what happens, Gordon is no longer G-man’s interest. As the events that take place after white forest are directly against G-man’s intentions.

I'd like to share my 2 cents, i don't mind people calling me crazy and such, i also don't know if this has been said before, but, what if G-Man's employers are us, the players, think about it for a second. We get to control Gordon & Alyx, but at the begining of Half-Life we see Gordon's personal data shown on the screen, during the game we see the chapter's names, should we fail a part we see a termination cause, at the end of the game we get to see the closing of said report, so that makes me think that we, the players, are G-Man's employers, since we adquired the game, put money to get to play it, we're paying to "our (imaginary) employee". Great Video!
