You are probably the first vloger that went to Mullaitivu. Only solution to mosquitos is to turn on the AC really cold. Price you paid is too much for non-ac room but I wouldn't complain in that area with no other options. Tamil areas in Sri Lanka have a long way to go before tourists flock there. If you are not one of them, they get very apprehensive and hostile. Places aren't very cleaned either. You see trash all over the place in those areas. Kudos for going there. Even I wouldn't go there just yet as a local.

Yea I’m not sure if others have been but I definitely didn’t encounter anyone on my travels there that had been any closer than Trincomalee. Yea I think it would have to be mega freezing in that room to neutralise the Goliath army of mosquitoes 🙈😂 It was certainly a different vibe around there with regards to people’s reactions to me but I mean really looking back, it actually just goes to show how spoilt you are as a foreigner in Sri Lanka because frankly, the reaction was no different to what it would be in Europe…people on the whole in Sri Lanka are just so incredibly welcoming and interested in you in a good way that it feels very alien when the reaction is different. Really though, if some weird guy was driving down my street with a camera in England, I’d also be looking at him thinking wtf 😂

There is definitely a severe lack of investment and development in northern and eastern areas. One reason for that is the lack of proper infrastructure since the government hasn't been very keen on developing infrastructure in those areas and another reason is that all the educated and skilled workers in those areas all migrated abroad during the war and now live in other countries. So without a skilled workforce and a lack of interest from the government, no business minded investor will invest in these areas.
@TheWanderLife

I think this is a very insightful comment with regards to the skilled and educated workers leaving the area/country. I seen that a lot across Sri Lanka as a result of covid and the economic implosion that followed but of course, those people with the means to leave generally already come from more developed areas, so it’s certainly understandable to see the long term impact it would have if they in fact left areas that were already underdeveloped and underserved. I look at those areas as neglected, but I wonder if the people who live there see it that way. Perhaps they prefer to be left alone without too much interference? 🤷🏻‍♂️

First chief minister to the northern province Mr Vigneshwaran said we will not allow any sinhalese person to invest in northern province. Further to this he said we don't want any tourists to our areas . When govt build roads in north and east they say its to go for the army. They write letters to unesco govt not excavate archeological sites in their ates. When start to excavate , old buddhist sites reappear with old sinhalese inscriptions , they cry harder to stop it saying there is much other things to do why govt focus on this.

@@kumarimapa7595 when I said the "government", that includes politicians and members of parliament like vigneswaran as well. Your question of "why should the government focus on this" is a very backward question to ask. The northern and eastern areas are all a part of Sri Lanka, and if these areas are holding back the development of the country, it is most certainly a pressing issue that the government should focus on.

3:37 Bro, the area was not under government control for 30 years so no developments or investments came to the area during that time. Whatever the developments you are seeing today are all happened after the war ended. Secondly there are many underdeveloped districts in Sri Lanka like Ampara, Monaragala where tourists rarely visit and haven’t seen any major investments is many decades. There are many villages without electricity , water or schools. But this is the case in many countries including UK I guess if you compare northern Scottish regions to main cities in England.

Yea it’s a tricky one. There’s literally zero tourism in these remote places so really it’s a local, working beach. For all I know they may indeed clean it but the trash just washes in so frequently that it becomes a bigger problem than they have the time or energy for, not to mention the lack of proper facilities to properly dispose of the trash they collect. So all in all, I actually felt pretty foolish when I was editing the video about commenting on the beach because I’m aware of the realities, but ultimately I left it in because I wanted to show the reality of the frustration I was feeling in that moment

That encounter with the cops quickly turned from a serious accusation to a friendly chat. I cannot think why people in Mullativu would be anymore "hostile" compared to others in the north, apart from not used to seeing foreigners which would apply to the whole region. Anyway Trinco should be a welcome change. Regarding the mossies didn't you ask the owner if he had a spray or a coil instead of going after the buggers one at a time ?
@TheWanderLife
@TheWanderLife Жыл бұрын
Yea it really did. Like I said after the first pull over with the cops that day, my whole experience with the police and military in Sri Lanka was fantastic. I’d seen a few videos recorded a few months prior to my trip where cops had tried to chance some payments with foreigners, so there’s always rogue people about in every country, but it’s not the experience I had at all. In the end, they were so friendly and helpful - would’ve been a totally different experience had it been in the UK for example so it’s brilliant to see and experience some true humanity and common decency from people despite the uniform. I honestly don’t know with regards to the vibe from people there. My only assumption is simply that they aren’t accustomed to weird foreigners intruding in their area 😂 As for the mosquitoes, I’m a typical English person….I like to complain about something but not kick up a fuss and complain to someone 🙈 It’s a British disease haha

it is very sorry for disrupting from forces and the police because not much foreigners are not going to these areas. The reason to established much more military bases be cause mullathive is the last strong hold of terrorists... after the war those bases were established to keep the peace and search hidden wepon lots of the terrorists... the ship's name is Farah 3 and another utube channel called Amal Samantha which is a name of local journalist who covered the entire war. He has some incredible videos that consists of farah 3 ship at that time. anyway good luck brother...and it is sorry for their language for sometimes.

Hey there! Yea it was all ok, they were no bother in the end and it was actually quite nice to have the interaction. With the latter one in Mulaitivu, I was actually advised by another viewer that there had recently been a kidnapping of a school student so it makes sense that the police and locals were being extra vigilant. My experience with the police and military personnel across Sri Lanka was only good. Not a bad word to say about any of my interactions with them so only good memories. As for all the bases etc, yea it makes a lot of sense. I wonder, do the people in those areas live in harmony with the bases and the personnel on them or do they (or at least some) have a feeling of being occupied?

Honestly that beach was pretty clean given the circumstance. The only reason the touristic beaches are clean is because hotels and others clean the beach during tourist season. During off season those beaches also get very dirty. Given that absolutely nobody is cleaning the beach in this video, it's rather clean.
@TheWanderLife
@TheWanderLife Жыл бұрын
Yea to be honest, when I was looking through the footage I was actually quite taken back by the beach and was a little frustrated with my words because really, it was quite clean and just had normal in-wash that you’d expect on many raw beaches in unfrequented areas. I think it’s just my general mood at that moment coming through - feeling tired, battered by the heat/sun, hungry because there was nowhere to eat and then of course the disappointment of not seeing the ship or submarines. I let my emotion get the better of my sense in that moment so I was tempted to cut it out but I wanted it to be honest and so it is what it is.

@damianxavier7343
@damianxavier7343 Жыл бұрын
@@kumarimapa7595 Yes Sri Lanka doesn't rlly hv a proper defined tourist season, but there is most definitely a drop in hotel prices (especially luxury hotels) and plane ticket prices during certain months of the year, and if you go to any famous southern beaches during that time, there is noticeably less foreign tourists, and the beaches are dirtier than usual.
