Thanks a million for this! My laptop was running hot with ~10 year's worth of dust inside. With your video it was easy to take the computer apart knowing what screws and cables needed removing in each step. An hour's work and it is like new again!

Thank you! After having my laptop for 3-4 years it built up quite a lot of dust/gunk. It was running slow and constantly hot. Today I carefully disassembled it opened up and cleaned the heat sink and used "Arctic Silver 5" thermal paste. I reassembled it and it runs amazing. I played some high res games and the computer didn't heat up. You have helped me save my computer! Now I can get another year or two before I have to buy another :)

Thank you so very much. I watched this on the TV and did it along with you. After 2 or 3 years of making more noise and getting hotter and hotter, my V3 is now silent, and cool air is flowing out of it. It sounds like a new laptop.

Thanks to this video, I just maintained my computer, wich was having some troubles : it overheated a lot when it was doing rather simple tasks, such playing a KZfaq video at 1080p. The CPU could sometimes exceed 80° Ceslius. After the cleaning (and the addition of new thermal paste), it doesn't exceed 50°, and it is as silent as the day when I bought it, 7 years ago ! Thank you a lot @How-FixIT. You saved me money (I spent just 9.99 € on the thermal paste), and you probably did something for the planet because I don't need to replace my computer and it consumes less power.

I did not want to disassemble the laptop so I cleaned the fins by blowing air and push in between with a pressed drinking straw. You can push dust to the fan and then blow it with compressed air. Very important on this laptop, in order to reduce throttling is to set max processor state to 99% and use Throttle Stop for undervolting. You'll get much lower temps and fan noise.

If there is a small tear or leak with the tape on the fan to the heatsink, would that cause overheating issues on the cpu and gpu? Also, would you happen to know the sizes of the thermal pads, most of mine are done for and need replacing. Or should I use the K5-Pro Summy Thermal Paste as pad replacements?

What thickness are the thermal pads used around the GPU? 0.5mm, 1mm or 1.5mm?
@alexeyzhiburtovich1896
@alexeyzhiburtovich1896 2 жыл бұрын
I used Alphacool Rise Ultra Soft 2mm. Arctic Thermal Pad 1mm did not work for me, there were huge gaps between some VRAM chips and the GPU heatsink. I did not find Alphacool Eisschicht Ultra Soft 2mm in stores, I would definitely try them instead of Rise, because they look even softer and could do nicely with filling uneven gaps when attaching the heatsink.
