Bought my Acer Aspire V3-772G over four and a half years ago. Issues with shut-downs and bluescreens started about two years ago and although I didn't buy the machine for gaming, I played (or tried to play) from time to time -- just I couldn't really because of (I assumed) over-heating. Another two and a half years later, I was finally prepared to try to do something about it, but I was scared as hell to touch the inner sanctum of my laptop. So far, I had only exchanged one hard drive for another and felt like Einstein when it worked. Your video was exactly what I needed to find the courage to take the next (and probably last) step; I don't think there's anything I'll need to touch on this or any deeper level. When I had disassembled the parts, at least as much dirt as you showed us in your video was clinging tightly to the fan's blades and that part where the heated air is supposed to pass through. The whole procedure took me about two hours, mainly because I had to have a bulldozer transport all the crap from the fan out of my house ;) Seriously, I had previously ordered thermal paste to have it ready when the day for the vivisection would come. To say it was all a breeze would be wrong -- I HATE those flat cables! But thanks to your tutorial I was able to do it on the first go. Now the fan purrs like a cat when it is even running at all. Chapeau, Monsieur! Well done!

My 8 year old Acer was running the fan constantly and I could feel the heat coming up under my left hand on the keyboard, especially when I was using a virtual machine to test some code. After following these steps, my ancient Acer feels like it has several more years of useful life. Thanks for spending the time to make the video.

Owner of 771g Here: Results. gpu used to be 91C and cpu used reach up to 103C. Now after 20 minutes of gameplay gpu reached 52C while cpu reached 60C. I say its a huge success. I used zalman for thermal paste btw Really apperciate the video helped me a lot. I just ended up with 1 extra screw but its okay xD

Just followed your video. Wasn't as difficult as it looks. Ended up with 3 screws left over. But everything is done and working. Fan and heatsink was blocked by dust. I cleaned it and applied new thermal paste to cpu and gpu. Temperatures remain low now. And this old laptop is actually usable again. I've got an ssd and more ram on the way. Thank you, I've done it today and it took me about 30-40 min. It's a huge difference, an almost 10 years old laptop seems like new. Before I just turned it on and open a browser and the CPU was at 90 degrees, now whatever I do it doesn't go past 65 degrees and it's very quiet.

Thank you so much for the video, it feels like my 4 year old laptop has been revived. On another note, ribbon cables needs to have the blue plastic backing to connect. If the backing happened to fall out, use a fit-to-size double sided tape to stick it back before plugging in the cable.

Thanks for the great video! This was my second time replacing thermal paste by your tutorial. First when my computer was 2 years old, and now when it is 5 years old. I gave it to my wife and bought a new gaming laptop, so we could play together. The fans were loud even after boot up and CPU temps were at 93 degree Celsius. Now the temps are down to 75 degree, even while under heavy load and running games. My thermals grease was even burned at one corner of the GPU. Sad thing is, it seems the laptop is nearing the end of it's lifetime, as I found several broken plastic parts inside, mostly around the hinges, every plastic holding them is broken, they are held only by the screws. Anyway, a great laptop even after 5 years of usage. And thanks for the very useful video!

Thank you so much. I feel like I have brought my laptop back from the dead. Cpu temp used to be around 60s-70s just by playing a movie and gpu also in the 60s area. The fan was extremely loud. After cleaning the fan and changing the thermal paste I have droped the cpu temp at the 40s area and the gpu also down to 36-37celsius. Your guide was extremely helpful !!!

Thank you very much bro, i own v3 771G with i5-3210M and GT 630M 2GB, they used to go to 72-75 C but after changing thermal paste (i used arctic mx-4) now it can't cross 55-60C on idle it works on 45-50, also i finished with two extra screws but it's working 😂

Hello this is very helpful steps video, please do tell if i can do this procedure without unplugging the wifi card, is it necessary ?..

You wouldn't believe the sheer amount of crap I pulled out of the fan on my V3-771 (first edition afaik, purchased May 2012) when I followed this procedure. I'd say it was an inch and a half of pure hair, dust, and other shit piled up between the fan outlet and the output fins. I wish I would have taken a picture. I've had this laptop since brand new, going on 6 years now and it's been an absolute beast with the i7 and dedicated graphics card. No, I do not use it for gaming anymore, or really when it was new. But it's still as fast as a brand new laptop and after cleaning it out it's even better. It used to howl on full blast all the time even with average load! If you have one of these laptops you NEED to clean it out and replace the thermal paste. I did up the ram to 16gb which is nice, but I'm in the land of diminishing returns when it comes to daily use. Electronics lose longevity and reliability with heat, I wish I would have cleaned it out sooner.

Is it ok if I don't renew thermal paste this time? On a humorous note, first time, there was one screw left after I finished everything and even though I checked all the places again it looked complete! Seems like that was ok after 1.5 years later.

Question before I start this process, my laptop sits now at 35-45 C at idle or light use (fan spins always but that's like this since i installed W10) and goes up to 80-90 on all cores when stressed at 100% Is this normal or should the temps be lower and I need to clean the fan? thanks

I'm going to try this out tonight. Mine is nearly 9 years old. I always used a laptop cooler with extra fans to raise it from the table, which probably helped to extend its lifetime, but after all this time the laptop is intensely heating up regardless. I'm not a computer wizard, so I'm afraid to do something wrong. But I'll follow your steps and I'll let everyone know whether a computer dummy like me can pull it off and whether it helped or not.

Thanks for this great video, it's really helpfull. Do you think I can apply Liquid Metal instead of thermal past on this one ? I can see that the surfaces in contact with the cpu and the gpu are cooper, but the rest of the heatsink is grey, is that aluminium ?

After a year of random BSODs and shut downs when my kids go to use it for games and swapping bad ram, I think this might be the issue, needs new thermal paste and thorough clean! Cross fingers will report back. I ran several GPU benchmarks and saw the gpu temp rise rapidly but works fine on normal use, just anything graphic intensive just shuts down.

After reassembling only half of my keys on my keyboard are working. Every second or third key doesn't work and so it doesn't print the half word by writing. Do you know what the error may be?

Hey man! great video! I have the same laptop I followed your video step by step. However, I have one problem now, my screen is black. the laptop turns on, I can hear the CD drive sound and the fan running, but the screen stays black. I read it might have to do with the RAM, do you have any other suggestion of what I can check?

Would have been better to put the notifications at the bottom of the screen as you were obscuring some of the work that you were carrying out on the dismantling and applying the CPU paste.

I saw there is an mSata slot. What ssd do you recomand for that slot? On some online shops i found this kind of products but the users said that they have a short life cycle.
