I just upgraded my HDD to the Sandisk Ultra Plus 128GB. This video had been a big help so a big thanks to Steve. To add, it can get a bit tricky prying open the bottom cover at first after getting out the 12 screws. What I did is to pull out the SD slot plastic placeholder first. Then get a small flat head screwdriver and insert in the SD slot as leverage. Slowly pry the cover ever so slightly just to get a fingernail in between the cover and the body.

Hey there. I upgraded the factory HD on this exact model today with an SSD drive. I had to use an adapter for, as I had a leftover mSATA SSD drive from a main desktop upgrade (went from a 256Gb to a 500Gb on desktop). The 256Gb drive I threw in a 7mm adapter, and got it up and running. Your video was a big help there, knowing what to look out for. Thumbs up! :)

From there, proceed to peel off the cover until you can slide it past the audio port connector. At 4:20, you don't need to mess around with the fragile cable. At 4:40 he unscrewed one side of the mini pcb holding the audio and USB2.0 ports. Just unscrew the other side and you can get that cable harmlessly out of the way.

Make sure you remove the SSD card (or factory fitted dummy SSD card) from the SSD slot on the right BEFORE attempting to remove the base, otherwise you will break the SSD slot!

Hello! Thank you very much for your video. I can see that you upgraded the RAM. I putted 2 more GB to the 2 GB installed but the system can only use 1,45 on W7 64 bit. Thank you very much in advance.

Just installed an SSD in my unit, every thing went fabulously successful. I would suggest that instead of disconnecting the ribbon cable, just remove the screw to the audio module circuit board and lift it up. That ribbon cable is entirely too delicate to mess with, if it can be avoided.

David Evans I tried in mine but I don't know why my ssd is more thick than the internal hdd so I'm not able to completely close my pc. I tried with a 2.5" OCZ 120gb ssd. There is a way to use an M.2 ssd?

Not tested yet but there's usually a 5%-10% advantage if you upgrade to SSD.

I assume max hight of the 7mm drive When testing windows 8 or 10 boot speed make sure you turn off fast startup in power options as I bet you turned that on from a shutdown (witch is a hibernate state in Windows 8 so it started up faster), just below the options that say password on wake up there is a ruck box that says fast start up (when ticked only a reboot is a clean shutdown, I unpick it on all systems as had Pepole with 40 days uptime and was causing problems )

Thanks for that video! I haven't read the full article yet but here the Things that might be interesting too so far. I've bought the subnotebook from amazon.de for ~370€ [Quad Core Temash Processor] I'm planning on putting also an SSD in it [Samsung 830 Series 128 GB] and opened it once, I would maybe prefer to unplug the battery since the whole motherboard is on power!?! The RAM is splitted, one is soldered on the MB and the other one is normal notebook RAM expandable to 4 GB means 6 GB total. There is a port on the bottom for en external battery but there is none made for the model, but I've spoken to acer's support so there is a compatible battery for the acer Aspire V5 132P that is compatible to this one.. I'm thniking hard about buying one.. So now a big question: is the acer converter cable port able to be used with an display port to HDMI adapter? becouse it's the same plug so far.. So thanks a lot for this Video I feel now confirmed in my intention to rebuild the little beast

Nice video. It's not necessarily Windows 8 that improves boot performance but UEFI. Also doing a drive copy won't necessarily help drive performance much. Clean install would work best.

Do you have to backup cos I don't want any of my old data
@larryselleh85899 жыл бұрын
At the risk that Steve Paine won't get this because the video is a bit dated, I am going to try anyway I used Acer's utility to make a backup of the system on a 16GB usb drive. Enabled F12 at startup. Then, replaced the HDD with an SSD. It seems as if I get about 70-75% of the way completed in the recovery and then it fails. There are a ton of files on the SSD but I cannot boot to the SSD. It shows in the BIOS after install but, when pressing F12, it is not there after I remove the USB drive from the port. It says that the drive where Windows is installed is locked. Any advice?

I have limited knowledge on computers and I need a bit of assistance. I want to install a 240GB SSD on my Acer Aspire 122p. Its the same model used in the video. The hard drive has 500GB and ive used around 220GB of it. I want to put the SSD in my computer, and want to put the photos from the hard drive on the SSD, and keep using the hard drive. (I want the hard drive to be 100% clean after I transfer the photos.) Basically I want to back up my personal files unto the SSD from the HDD. My only problem is that I don't know how to actually transfer the photos once the SSD is in. I'm guessing I need a cable to plug the hard drive in. But where would I find the cable? What's it called? Is it available in a store like Best Buy(my preferred option) or do I need to order it online?? :) Please reply below if you think you can help!

That SSD is a TLC Grade and adds 3 bits per cell, Cheapest and doesn't last as long as the MLC and adds 2 bits per cell, less room for error which you can always tell by its size for example that's a 240GB and it reserves a hidden 16GB for errors whereas the MLC SSD Will show it's a 256GB SSD with longer life and less errors and the SLC which can easily be singled out because you can't afford it... lol... The SLC Grade Comes in a much lower amount of GB's, last the longest and only adds 1 bit per cell which makes it the most accurate, but much smaller in the amount of information being stored... SD and Micro SD Cards are mainly TLC so don't have that false sense of security because there's no moving parts! Try to buy MLC, best bang for the buck...

I have one of these, had it for a couple of years. From the off it was so painfully slow that it was virtually unuseable. I'd become too invested in it to take it back and then just bought a better laptop. Upon packing to move house I stumbled once again on this piece of shit and I'm wondering if there is something I can do to at least make it capable of browsing the internet. Any ideas?

I believe mine came with Windows 8 and after installing 10 it seems to manage it's resources a lot better now than with Windows 8. Alot more snappier. Could use a single 8GB DDR3 stick and of course a cheaper SSD.
