It's one thing if the Helios 300 fell from "best in class" to "still pretty good against tough competition". It fell straight into "significantly worse than its predecessors despite newer hardware and uncommendable against rivals". Acer's best price-conscious gaming laptop is the Swift X 🤣

The Helios 300 that I bought in 2019 had excellent display with 98% sRGB coverage. Looks like Acer is cutting cost now.

I have Helios 300 Rtx 3060, i7 11th gen with 2k display. Me and my friends who bought that version didn't face any of these issues you mentioned. It also came with 2 Ram sticks. Speakers are really bad. The volume is very low.

I have the 2020 model with i7 10th gen, RTX 2060 and dual channel 16gb RAM. Its almost a year and........ i haven't faced any issues, it runs butter smooth and its powerful. I didn't knew that the 2021 version would be this bad.

I just bought a Helios 300 Predator 165hz screen RTX3070 and i7. Description says it has 2 x 8 MB RAM . I have watched your video and am now beginning to worry. This configuration seems slightly different to the one you describe. I am not that knowledgeable about computer hardware, but bought this machine as I have an older version with a GTX1060 inside and 32mb of RAM and found this to be a really good machine. It still is a good machine, but I needed another machine in the house and so went with ACER as I have had a bad HB OMEN machine in the past with firmware issues. Is my new laptop a piece of crap? I am just waiting for it to arrive and spent €2,000....

Pls review the Acer predator helios 300 with Rtx 3060 (2022)

I bought it from Amazon US "like new" for 950$, mine came with 2 8GB sticks each (so it's already dual channel), Core i7-11800H, RTX 3060, and a 144hz 3ms response time IPS panel (the lower left sticker states it), according to what I've read about mine, the screen is close to 400 nits. I've never had such an incredible laptop. I really couldn't believe the price, specially for the times.

Damn, this gen Helios 300 is crap, shit screen, meh RAM, neutered GPU...... Might've overlooked that it doesn't have a SD slot and per key RGB to get a system with 2 m.2s and a 2.5 bay, but not with those other cons. Wanted to get the 10th gen with 2060 last year but they were OOS then jumped in price when they came back. IIRC, last gen had a great screen, ok for content creation.

Hey jarod, I bought the rtx3060, i7-11th gen helios 300 2 months ago It has bios version 1.07 and i tested the power consumption of the gpu while playing cyberpunk 2077 and forza horizon 5 and it was going upto the full 105 watts. I can provide proof if you want. It has the QHD screen with 3ms response time and 100%srgb So if you look at some other configurations it solves 2 big problems shown in the video.

It was once at the top of the game being the best budget gaming laptop of the year.

Please do the Us 3060 version as it is sold as a 99%sRGB, 370 nits, 16gb ram in dual channel with a higher wattage than the 3070 version (forums report 100 to 130 but we only trust your professional review) and all for $1288 now and possible $1144 for Black Friday (as this was the discounted price on prime day).

It's sad to see that such laptops that are marketed as being extremely powerful / top of the line hardware, have so many smaller factors that make it seem the worst in every possible way. It's a great service you're doing to the community/consumers of these products those who can decide perfectly now, without any hidden factors that no manufacturer would advertise with the specs. was there an error in editing or something in the microphone part? It says didnt do a good job at isolating voice from fan noise but there is practically no fan noise at all (compared to jarrod's other laptop reviews where the fans actually were bad). Or is my headphones just garbage?

I got the I7 10750h and rtx 3070 model, lineup 2020. And it is a beast, no issue whatsoever (maybe the screen could be better.) It's a shame that this model has so much problems..

Wow! Acer Predator really did fell off the cliff didn't it? That LCD panel is soo bad!! Worse G2G response time, worst in class colour gamut, 230 nits peak brightness.. all of this would have been fine in cheaper Acer nitro with some 3050 or something for cost cutting.. but this is unacceptable

I have a 2021 Helios 300(rtx3060/QHD165 hz Panel). Dynamic Boost works for me, and it went to 115W as well! on BIOS 1.7.

What laptop do you recommend instead of the helios. I once wanted to buy this but since your review I now have doubts. Me too is not a techy person and would appreciate your answer. At its price range what else beats the helios. Please not legion 5 pro, too expensive.

Considering Regional Differences our Helios 300s here in Germany are similar to the overall EU Version have Dual Channel Memory if it's the faster or slower ones I'm actually unsure about that. And that the RTX 3070 is running below Specs is here actually not an Issue from what I saw in Reviews it's pretty much in the Middle performance wise. In Terms of the Screen well we are similar screwed with that same Panel lmao but apparently the lower end Panels are better

Hi Jarrod! Would you say buying Acer Nitro 17,3 FHD 5800H paired with 16GB RAM and RTX 3080 (100watts after firmware update) is justified for the price of 2066 euros considering Legion 5 pro ships with the same CPU and rtx 3070 with 140 watts and is somewhat cheaper.

I have the 3060 version of this laptop and the only issue is the battery life. I think you may have gotten a bad unit for review because my 3060 version performs better than your unit.

Looks like they are cutting corners in this version of Helios 300, I also noticed that they removed the “3ms” from the sticker on the bottom left corner of the screen, so they could use a worse panel, plus that chassis was already overdue for a new design and better cooling system as it was already having trouble cooling RTX 2060, but they decided to refresh it anyway with crippled GPU, kinda sad, I have the 2020 version of it and it’s so much better than this one

I think giving 1x16GB ram is better than 2x8GB ; If I choose to upgrade to 32Gb RAM , I would have to throw out both 8GB sticks, but not in this case; Anyway a choice would be better

curious how about those Helios 300 53KP (PH315-53-53KP) with Intel i5 10300h Gen | RTX 3070 | 144hz 1080p display | 8gb RAM | 256gb SSD + 1TB HDD? i have that one at the moment and it seems to provide acceptable gaming performance for around 1,687 AUD with a gaming chair, keyboard and mouse and a 2year warranty.

The 2021 helios 300 is just a nitro 5 but more expensive. Both have the same chasis design, same cooler, same ports arrangement and you pay more for nifty features that you'll never use with the helios. I know it's already 2 years but it's better to get the nitro 5 or other gaming laptop from other brands.

A bit of trash talk here . After some bios patch u got 115 TDP on rtx 3070 with 11800h I7 . I have upgrade my ram thoo and every think work exelent for me no black screen or other things and it was from 16gb to 32 gb . To reach the max TDP u just need to stay on turbo mode other way u get 80- 90 no more . The temps was bad at begin when i have buy it but i don't care about warranty and have made repaste the laptop by my self and temps never hit above 75 CPU and 65 GPU with long benchmarks . The second problem was SSD nvme sitting in slot on wrong side of mother board and it was covering bios chip witch was hot ASF after changing his slot to other side temps go down on System Temps in predator sense . The third problem is Ethernet and his software , when u have turned off a ethernet from your device manager the temps on system drops in copule second from 80 to 55 . yeah its a bit problem becouse ethernet is ethernet and wifi is su..s . For those who want to use ethernet i can say only one put some thermalpads on that bios chip and thats all you will got maximum temps like that after u make all that steps : 75 CPU 65 GPU and SYSTEM temps around 70 maximum with full stress

it's weird seeing this helios 300 having a bad color gamut while the 9th gen helios 300's color gamut that that I had was still hay better lol plus I think my 9th gen helios 300 (even though it got outperformed by the 10th gen and 11th gen versions) is still a capable laptop for me :)

All the things you said don't even make a difference when it comes to actual gaming. My friend has this laptop and it's awesome.

I got 2k + 3060 with dual channel Ram model at $1500. I didn't have any screen issues and max wattage for 3060 was 105W. (Tested with HWinfo) Cinebench score was 12200 multi-core. 3D Mark Time Spy was around 7600.

Helios 300 i bought 2019 was one of the best deals i have done. Excelent system, good display, not too expensive, space for upgrades, decent cooling. My only real complan is how some keys get stuck sometimes but they usualy fix themselves. Sad to see a giant fall

I have the similar model and i bought it here in taiwan. Screen has 3ms response time and is superb probably it varies from region to region. Yes it came with single 16gb stick so i upgraded to 32gb. The issue of lower power limit for gpu is there but once you plug an external monitor as i use it for my daily use gpu hits consistently 105-110 watts. However it shd be fixed in the bios update . One problem is that you cannot undervolt the cpu like you can on msi. Gaming performance and cooling is superb. Enjoying my experience till now
