Just got the acre predator Helios 300 yesterday and it feels awesome. It’s really well built compared to the nitro 5. I used it at Best Buy and the build just felt cheaper compared to the predator. Both are great laptops but, I would rather spend a little more money for the build. Great review Jared!

I would say you would need an eternal monitor setup with either. I've heard people complaining about the color accuracy on the nitro for pro standards.

Thanks, I think the Nitro 7 is just the 5 with a metal lid so not sure it'd make a difference in terms of performance.

@@JarrodsTech You get nitro 5 with different specs. But with same specs in 5 and 7 it's the metal cover that's different. Acer Nitro 7 15,6 144hz Nivida Geoforce GTX 1660ti, 6GB, GDDR6 i7 9750H 9th generation 16GB RAM DDR4 512GB SSD 2019 model. you get Nitro 5 with these specs too. In my country Nitro 5 and 7 with these specs are same price. Most go for Nitro 7. Metal lid / body = more solid.

Fair enough, I think the 7 is basically the same as the 5 just with a metal lid so probably no major differences in terms of performance.

Acer Helios 300 can also be upgraded to Gtx 260 meaning And Acer nitro 5 only upgrades to gtx1660ti so in all the Helios has the best settings

Depends how much money you're willing to spend, the Helios 300 goes up to 2070 Max-Q graphics.

Thanks! The options would be uninstalling any software that could be causing the issues, maybe disabling network might help, you can only do so much before it starts not being practical.

@@josealfredfernandes i only play games on it. But yea it does heat up. The heat is not too much though. And the booting up and shut down time is fast af too. It hardly takes 10 seconds to boot up and shut down. It easily gives me 60 fps in 1080p ultra in most AAA games and atleast 45 fps even in graphic intensive games like ghost recon wildlands.

From what I've gathered in all the reviews I've seen If you want a Nitro, go entry level (GTX 1050/1650) If you want a Triton 300, go up a notch (GTX 1660/1660ti) If you want a Helios, go all out (RTX 2060/2080)

Would not be surprised if it happens, or just the 1660 (non Ti) like the desktop side has, the gap between 1650 and 1660 Ti on the laptop side is too big.

Great comparison. I would say if you have comparisons where you know the driver or game update differences affect performance, just remove those results. Better to show nothing than misleading results. Can you do a similar comparison of the Helios 300 with the Aftershock-equivalent to the MAG 15 that you're working on?

I do that if the Nvidia driver update specifically mentions a game will see increased performance. I am not sure what comparisons are possible with MAG-15, it depends what specs they send it with. Generally I only compare same CPU/GPU, wouldn't make much sense to do the 2070 Max-Q MAG-15 with Helios 300 for instance.

You should consider the posibility that de CPU schedulling in the Nitro 5 may be better than the Helios 300 for the updates in windows 10

I want to ask some unusual question about Nitro 5. I see that its motherboard has not so much components on it and there are even some empty spaces on its surface. Compared to this, motherboards of many other laptops have much more components soldered to their surface so that there aren't empty spaces at all. For example MSI Prestige 15 motherboard has much more components on it than Nitro 5's. Why's that? What for are those additional chips needed which aren't present on Nitro 5's motherboard? I've read that among those chips and other elements are MOSFETs or something like that which provide more stable circuit power. I'm no tech specialist so I don't know exactly. So about Nitro 5's mobo - is it of quite good quality and does it have enough elements for stable and sufficient circuit power? I'm afraid that lower-cost positioning of Nitro 5 would extend not only to its cheaper serviceable/upgradable parts compared to their more expensive counterparts in higher-class Helios 300 but even to motherboard itself stripping it off from "excess" elements. It seems to me that Helios 300 mobo has more electronic elements on its surface than Nitro 5's motherboard. Maybe I'm mistaken. I'll be happy if someone well versed in this matter will give an answer.

What's it for? For gaming and most tasks for that matter the Helios 300 will perform better, so depends if you want the Aero for Thunderbolt 3, UHS-II SD card slot, or larger battery. The Aero 15x does perform significantly lower in terms of clock speeds due to how hot it gets (you can see my other Aero 15x videos, there are lots on the channel as it's my personal laptop).

Hey Jarrod, if you still have that last year's ryzen nitro 5, I'd like you do do an experiment. I've heard AMD lets GPU-APU crossfire, can you check if that's on by default and if it's not, then how much of a difference it makes in performance. Cuz the nitro 5 GPU hasn't changed this generation so it's a little bit of a bottleneck to the system and I wonder if GPU-APU crossfire with the Vega 8 will help

I have a question. I am getting the Nitro 7 i5-9300H/1660 ti/144hz model for around 75k INR(around 1050 USD) and the Helios 300 same specs for 90k INR(1250 USD). Not sure if the Helios 300 is worth the extra bucks as I am not a hardcore gamer. Only concern that I have with the Nitro 7 is the thermal performance. In most of the reviews, people mention issues like overheating and thermal throttling. I would like to know if the Helios 300 is worth the extra 15k INR(200 USD) for the same specs.

The Nitro will be better value if you're willing to undervolt/overclock yourself, pretty easy to learn with guides on KZfaq so you could definitely save the money and expect similar performance with some simple tweaks.

Tight race at high gfx settings but is the helios still going to get closer to 144hz limits at low settings because of the power limit on the cpu or is it still the same?
