hello i would just like to ask, i think my fan is not working properly, when i MAX it, the air is very strong in the side panels but both the back is nothing(gpu right side) while the left cpu side is barely a breeze(lower than a whistle air)? is this a problem?
@MVNDRVX
@MVNDRVX 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Daniel. Sounds like your rear exhaust fins needs a good cleaning. If the air is strong from the sides and less from the rear, it's most probably blocked. When last did you clean the inside of your laptop?

Hey bro, I was going through the tutorial on this video and noticed that I didn't buy any thermal pads. I was wondering if I can just use the thermal paste (kryonaut in this case) on the part where you used pads instead.
@MVNDRVX
@MVNDRVX 2 жыл бұрын
@@laisensei6984 Hey! I wouldn't recommend doing that. Regular thermal paste are low in viscosity and the gap between the chips and heatsink would not fill. Hence, there would not be any heat transferred, leading to high temps. If your thermal pads are still good, you can still use them and it's not necessary to replace. Or else replace with new one 🙂
@laisensei6984
@laisensei6984 2 жыл бұрын
@@MVNDRVX Well I pretty much skipped the thermal pads part and only put thermal paste on CPU and GPU. There isn't much obvious effect from that though. It only lowered my average temp by several degrees (in fact I'm not even sure if that's caused by the thermal paste or if that's actually due to me cleaning my fans).

Thanks for watching. Glad you got to learn something new. You should open the fans and clean them since most of the dust will be stuck at the exhaust fins, which blocks the hot air from blowing out therefore causing thermal issues. Make sure you repaste the CPU and GPU with a good quality paste in case you're planning to dismantle the fan unit or else air bubbles might form in the thermal paste when placing the heatsink back. nah man it do be like that not unless you are living in cold climate but if you’re in tropical countries, its inevitable. Also have the same unit and im in ph thats why i hit 90+ the solution i did is downclock my cpu from 4.0ghz to 3.2 ghz doesnt really have impact on performance but has significant reduction in temps. also i tried playing in cold rooms and i noticed that i have really low temps even on high settings and overclocked. Its ur ambient temp that you should be blaming really. You would know when to repaste is when you’re hitting high temps even on idle.

Hey I appreciate the video! I have a few questions, thanks in advance! 1. What are the risks of doing the disassembly (short circuit/etc.) and how would you mitigate those risks? 2. I have a predator that hasn't been repasted for 2 years, do I must replace the thermal pads? Would it make that big of a difference if I don't replace it? 3. For the thermal pads (Amazon costs too much in terms of shipping) can you tell me whether this unbranded thermal pads is okay to use or not? Specifications: Blue Size Length x Width: 20 x 20 mm Thickness : 1.0 mm (Don't worry it has the 0.5 mm version as well) Thermal Conductivity : 3 Wm/k 4. I've heard that static electricity damage can happen. Is that a thing I should be worried about or is it ok? Do I need some special equipment? Thanks for the video once again! Liked and subscribed
@MVNDRVX

You can make sure you're grounded during the process to make sure there's no risk of static electricity short circuit. These cases are rare though. In case you don't find a grounding device, just touch some metal to discharge. Thermal pads don't need to be replaced unless it's gone bad. Mine got flaky and was all over the motherboard so had to replace them. If at all you're replacing your thermal pads, I'd recommend you go for at least 6W/mK.

I haven't changed anything for more than 2 years, how long did you use your laptop before the stock thermal pads went bad and flaky? 2. I'm thinking about buying an antistatic mat and straps just to be safe ig. Is it worth it or is the risk of static electricity damage is very small? 3. If its not worth it how often should I touch metal to discharge? Every few minutes? Once before working?

Does the dram actually benefit from the thermal pads? I understand the cpu and gpu probably get better temps but what about the system itself? Are the .5 mm pads you used superior to that pink paste?
@MVNDRVX
@MVNDRVX 2 жыл бұрын
Memory chips do produce certain amount of heat but not as much as the CPU & GPU itself. So most of the system heat comes from the CPU & GPU. I feel the pink paste is just an overkill and regular 0.5mm pads works just fine. when is ideal to be cleaning a laptop as a routine? I have my ph300 for a year now, and I'm wondering if I should try cleaning it even if I'm kinda scared and when should I try changing it's thermal paste? and about that brush to clean it, which type of brush is ideal so I don't damage my laptop?

Cleaning routine would depend on how dusty your surrounding is. Once in every 6 months to a year should be ideal. The thermal pads should only be replaced if they're dry and flaky like yours, right? Should I buy the pads in advance just to be sure, or it's okay to just do the repasting and change the pads later if I see they're in a bad situation? And would you recommend using those anti static gloves or some sort of anti static pad? Or something else to avoid static, if it's necessary. (I'm a little scared of damaging something) Also, this might be a little dumb on my part but bear with me, I saw you recommend in another comment something about applying the pads first, but not the paste yet, fix the heatsink back and after a while remove and check for contacts. I have two questions about this: should I screw the heatsink back on during this, or just place it? And what does a contact looks like, which pads it could be on, and what exactly to do in this case? (For what I could get, the 0.5mm pads go on the ones that had the pink stuff, and the 1.0mm go on the rest, right?) Thank you soooo much in advance, this video is pretty much a life saver for me right now, cause just the other day I was doing nothing and the CPU was in 81ºC and it really freaked me out, buy this is the first time I do something like this myself, the most I've done before was adding an extra SSD.
@MVNDRVX
@MVNDRVX 8 ай бұрын
Before you do anything, remove the back cover to check on the thermal pads. If they are all over the place, it's better you get the pads and replace them along with the paste because once you remove the heatsink, you will have to repaste again so air gaps are eliminated. For static electricity, you could just touch some metal to discharge yourself every now and then. Checking for contacts meaning to look if imprints have formed. In that way we know that there are no gaps and the thermal pads will transfer heat normally. You will have to screw down the heatsink and let it rest for sometime.

I just used some cheap thermal pads from Amazon based on the reviews. The brand is called adwits. I used 0.5mm in replacement of the stock pink paste and 1mm for the rest of the chips. Not sure about the thickness used for triton 300. Do check on that. Only replace thermal pads if necessary. It's not mandatory because thermal pads last long in most cases and just use thermal pads alone. Only apply paste on pads where you think contact is not made with the heatsink. Hope this helps. You're welcome. Thank you for watching 🙂 If you ask Acer they would suggest 1mm pads on everything. But I've done tons of research and came to a conclusion that 1mm is too thick and would have some thermal resistance. Many people have asked me this question and my suggestion would be to apply thermal pads as shown in the video. Do not apply the thermal paste yet. Fix back the heatsink. Let it rest for a while. Remove the heatsink and check for contacts. If you see contacts on every pad, then you're good to go. If there is no contact on some pads, just apply a little bit of paste on them. Hope this was helpful. Do subscribe to show some love and support 🙂❤

I've never overheated the laptop, so I don't think there is a need to (and neither do I want to (I'm scared to)) perform a full surgery, but I do want to clean the fans. Genuine question - are there any major risks if I just open the cover, get my hoover, and gently hover it over the fans, just to get as much fluff out as possible? Obvioulsy I won't put the hoover right up into the fans, as I don't want to damage anything, but will some gentle paintbrush strokes and a hoover to remove the dust do an acceptable job? Pls do say straight away if this is a bad idea🙃 Any advice/suggestions is greatly appreciated, from you and others :) Thank u

Ram running in dual channel always gives better performance over single channel. For your second question, it depends... If your your CPU runs too hot, you could face thermal throttling. It's mentioned in the video. 5mm for vram memory and 1mm for everything else.

For the vram areas can we use thermal gel instead of pads? The areas which were initially pink
@MVNDRVX
@MVNDRVX 3 жыл бұрын
You can but you need to have a thicker viscosity paste. Normal thermal paste will not do the job. Better replace with thermal pads. Hope that was helpful. Do support the channel by dropping a LIKE & SUBSCRIBE 🙂✌

One of your cable routing is different from mine, I have to unplug that to remove the heat sink, which nearly gave me a heart attack.

Hey! Right now my CPU hits maximum 85c without aircon and around 82-83c with aircon. The GPU on the other hand goes up to 65c max 🙂 Hope the video and information helps. Feel free to ask if you have any other doubts. Do SUBSCRIBE to the channel to show some love and support 🙂✌

@Gavin Townsley that's a good tip but I doubt air cleaning would remove thick dust from inside the fans. Plus in a few countries, it's hard to find compressed air cans and even if you do they're quite expensive. In that sense, brushing would be a more viable option 🙂

@Gavin Townsley cool... You must be living in a cold place then.... Cause in the tropics, the thermals are really bad. Anyways thank you. Hope this video helps you in future. Do subscribe to show some love and support 🙂✌

Hi, Great video! 👍👍👍 I have favorite your video to reproduce it once I have bought what I'm going to ask you. I have the ACER Predator Helios 300 PH317-54-796D. I will want to change my ram, increase my storage. What models would you advise me in ram 16G, ssd PCI 1T and Sata 2T? Thanks
@MVNDRVX
@MVNDRVX 3 жыл бұрын
Hi. I'm glad you liked the video 🙂 For the RAM, you could go with 2x16gb 2666mzh sodimm ddr4 ram. Check Crucial website for more details. Don't go with anything more than 2666mzh. For PCIE M.2 ssd, you could go with the same that I've used Samsung 970 evo plus or even a 980. Even WD black has similar performance. For SATA SSD, you could go with any of your choice. If the budget isn't a problem then, I would suggest the Samsung 870 EVO 2.5" SSD. Hope that answered all your queries. Do SUBSCRIBE to the channel to show some love & support 🙂✌

Which ones are the VRM chips? The smaller ones? I can't tell the difference which you put 1mm thermal pads or 0.5mm thermal pads. I'll be doing the same thing you're doing.

The Vram chips are the ones that already have pink paste on them. You need to replace that with 0.5mm pads and 1mm for everything else 🙂
