Achalasia is a very rare and incurable disease of the esophagus. Swallowing becomes increasingly more difficult due to greatly reduced peristalsis that brings food down plus tightening of the sphincter valve at the entrance to the stomach. Food often gets stuck with no way to go except back up. Medical intervention is often required for survival. The support and understanding of family and friends can be essential to improving one's quality of life. Additionally, being a part of an online support group has proven to be invaluable for learning about all aspects of the disease beyond what doctors can advise you. There are several. This is also how I say Achalasia. I've heard it pronounced two different ways. Thank you for sharing and hosting the FB support group! You were one of the people I contacted before my surgery and I appreciate your kindness.

Bittersweet and beautiful. Sad and funny at the same time, as we need to have a little dark humor to live a lifetime with this disease that affects us and our families. Beautiful voice, Susie. Thank you for sharing.

I love it! Made me smile but also cry a little especially towards the end. Living with Achalasia is so hard... Thanks for sharing your journey with us, it makes me feel like I'm not alone. (What a beautiful voice that person has, please tell her💓)
