The upper and lower parts hurt all the time . I've had tests done in PA ( my own process of elimination , Achalasia,Ear nose and throat ) all test were negative . Last year my son took me to NJ and then I found out my Esophagus was swollen with severe inflammation meanwhile I've been in pain for 2yrs. I don't suffer from gerd or acid reflux but PA was trying to treat me for it 😲 I have no life , my anxiety is way up and I get migraines . Feels like I'm walking around carrying 50lbs around my neck . 😭

I get painful spasms when carbonated drinks are swallowed and sometimes when I want to burb. It hurts like hell. Been struggling with this for about 10-15 years now. Going to have a barium swallow tomorrow, because I've been having problems the past week swallowing solids and liquids. Cannot belch, and when I do, it hurts the same as the spasms when drinking fizzy drinks. Great video this.

Thank you. I'm a Cleveland Clinic patient recently diagnosed with Jackhammer esophagus. I'd never heard of it before. During the monametry the nurse actually said wow, hehe. I have no gerd, or very infrequently, and it is easily controlled with an antacid(calcium) tablet. I do have severe, extreme esophageal pain on swallowing, liquid/solid,hot/cold,dry/moist doesn't seem to be factors. From just below my adams apple, to just about the bottom of my breastbone. It does not happen every swallow, but it does happen every day. The pain is intense and excruciating, but thankfully usually lasts less than 2 minutes that actually feel like about 2 hours. Scoped twice, all good. Weight loss is hard to explain. I'm usually only willing to go through 1 heart attack per meal, if I get a second, well it's just not worth eating or drinking at that point.

@@Jana-ne6km I have been on Tofrinil (imipramine) for 2 years or so now. It is an anti-anxiety pill that has an off-label effect. It reduces esophageal spasms. Started at 1/2 pill a day and quite literally cut the symptoms by half. Went up to a full pill everyday and it is actually working. At most I get spasm's maybe once every other month or so. Absolutely incredible difference. From daily spasm's to so infrequently that they are noteworthy when they happen. I don't think I've ever taken a drug that was so effective so quickly. I hope this helps.

My doctor / gastro specialist told me she hasn't been able to determine what is causing my problems . She has had 7 months to do so and still has no answer . Her last response was "sometimes these things happen and fix themselves" and gave me more pills ............ right on doc , good work ..... let's give up and not find a second opinion or try harder to figure it out ......... what a joke . I have dysphagia and trouble moving the food along it seems . I sometimes have some acid / heart burn too but apparently she cant find out whats wrong ... just wait for it to "fix itself"

I know this is an old conversation, but I want to ask everyone a question. My mom had/has achalasia, and I was wondering if any of you have a bedroom/ bed that is really close to a SMART METER on the house/apartment??? I believe and have a strong feeling that high radiation from the SMART METER may have played a roll in my mom losing the nerve function that helps swallow. I would be very grateful if you could tell me, I am asking everyone who has swallowing issues.

good video. knowledge still needs updating though. unfortunately few doctors in the world know what's really going on. Gastro docs need to train harder than ever now, so many new symptoms presenting in the population. Causality is being further understood also, especially in the context of diet and the immune system.

I have problems for several years and misdiagnosed. However I was finally given a name of my disorder which is Achalasia. I have been through many tests and even had the Botox injection once which worked for about one month. However now I am waiting to have my POEM surgery on February 16th. If you haven't been diagnosed and had a successful treatment, I would recommend you talk to your specialist about Achalasia.

I do not have the chest pains that feel like a heart attack anymore. I believe when I was having those pains is when the sphincter had spasms to the point of becoming so tight the food is not able to pass through anymore. When eating with this problem, the food moves down and sits in the esophagus just before entering into the stomach. Then the esophagus stretches from the food sitting there and also with the food there the phlegm glands produce more phlegm trying to move the food down into the stomach. The esophagus has no motility and then the food moves back up and appears to vomit back up.

@@IAMGiftbearer It's not "spoken about" widely, you have to do some research on medical studies/findings. About 20 years or so ago doctors discovered that nerves can regenerate with very high oxygen therapy. All professional football and basketball players, and Olympians, and some very GOOD doctors who care about healing and not just medicating have known and use hyperbaric oxygen treatments to restore nerve and brain trauma/disease, as well as recover muscle function very quickly (for athletes).
