Greetings my fellow friends! Today I am sharing another wonderful mandala dot art project! This tutorial is part of my collection of How To's.
Here you will learn about basic components of what makes up acrylic paint, how to achieve this at home, and how to get the right consistency for mandala dotting.
Please guys remember that this is not a product to replace Nuvo Drops or Bliss drops, both are equally different and fantastic products and I urge you all to try them out! This is simply a class tutorial on how to make your own acrylic paint for mandala dotting.
if you are interested in trying nuvo or bliss drops, here are links.

Thanks so much for the video. It was very educational. The main topic that you covered that I needed. I really didn’t know I needed, but it was about the flow medium, adding it to the colors and how it looks like a raisin when it shriveled up. I’ve had this happen again and again, and I couldn’t understand why some of my dots were just fine and the other ones were all shriveled up but thanks a lot for that information. Thanks for the entire video. It was a all great.

Wow!! What an amazing “how to”. Even though I’m no where near ready to begin mixing paints, I absolutely enjoyed this lesson in mixing mica to make a paint. Interesting about the gel. I had no idea there was that much of difference between matte and glossy gel. So much great info. Thanks so much!!

I bought a bottle of pearlizing medium ..its a whitish color but u mix your paint 50/50 and it turns any flat or gloss or just any paint into a pearlizes

This is a most wonderful and educational video! Thank you so much for taking the time to do all of the experimenting on our behalf! Would you be able to post a photo here of some dried drops so that we can compare the height of them after they are dried? I am looking for something quite raised and Nuvo-like. Thank you! 😊

Taking advantage of your knowledge. Could you tell if it is something home made to put in a running acrilic paint? I try corn starch and it doesn't work for me. 😊
@printsandpaintsbymarcy
@printsandpaintsbymarcy 6 ай бұрын
I do know that cornstarch can be tricky because it hardens so fast. There's a process to it as well, that involves cooking it first. I believe a ratio for that would be 1.5 cups cold water to 2 tablespoons of cornstarch. Heat it on low to a boil on the stovetop until it becomes a thick paste. Let it cool to room temp and then add a small amount to your paint. using a 1 part paint and 1 part cornstarch. Using palette knives really help with this to get that smoothy paint consistency. If you don't like cornstarch you can always use flour and water. I'm unsure of the ratio for that one and I've read that it kind of degrades your paint using flour. You can also invest into the gel mediums, essentials brand in Walmart is like a fraction of the price that Liquitex is and works just as good. You'll spend maybe 8 bucks on it.

I thought the binder is what holds the color together, not what holds it to the surface. If you don't have a binder with your paint, they would disperse into other colors in your medium - and make mud
@printsandpaintsbymarcy
@printsandpaintsbymarcy 2 ай бұрын
If you didn't have a binder, it would just be pigment and solvent, in return is called watercolors, and yes people do use them to mix colors all the time. Acrylic paints are made up of three components, pigment, binder and solvent(water). I was explaining the process of what happens when you use acrylic paint and what's happening when it dries, and how to make it. I kind of get what saying your saying about not having a binder and colors would disperse into each other, but then we aren't talking about acrylic paint anymore either. We would be referring to watercolors and even so technically watercolors have a binder in them too, its Arabic gum. If you think about it, we mix binders, solvent and pigments together all the time, this is how we achieve hues from the color wheel. and its not mudding together. we are making different hues.

So, with the HARD body paint; you just add a little water to the MICA, then mix it into the HARD body paints? If this is still too thick, do you just keep adding water, or is there something I missed in the section about the mica/ hard body combination??
@printsandpaintsbymarcy
@printsandpaintsbymarcy Ай бұрын
Yup you are right...With the three ingredients you need a color, binder and vehicle. Your hard body paint is both color and binder combined already, so you need to just add water until you get a smooth consistency. Do not be afraid to add water as needed. Ideally you just don't want your paint so thin is runny or soupy, more like a thin yogurt consistency. 👍👍
