A totalitarian state that controls everything and everyone through oppressive laws, total surveillance, and intimidation.
You are Frank Schwarz, a husband, and father who lost his cushy office job at the Ministry after someone set him up. The only way to avoid jail time was to make a deal with a high-ranking security officer.
Now a government spy working undercover as a landlord, you must break into tenants' apartments, search them for contraband and eliminate anyone your boss wants out of the picture.

Wow. Each ending where Frank gets everything back has him look gradually more sinister in the family photo, with him looming over all of them in the rebel one. The family endings were also both really sad, wish there was someway for Frank to escape with his daughter.

Something else I noticed while rewatching this, in the 'good' reformist and Hawks ending, Kim seems to lose her rebellious streak (at least judging by the family pictures, in which Kim changes her outfit and strengthens her hair, and even seems to be standing somewhat demurely). Meanwhile in the good rebel ending, Kim keeps her usual look (besides trading a skull for a rebel symbol) even though that's the one where Frank looks the most overly sinster. I guess that's just another implication of the consquences of those two endings. In the reformists, Kim was also brainwashed into accepting the 'new direction' for the nation and so her attitude adjusted accordingly. In the Hawks ending, the crackdown on any dissidents means she can no longer afford to be rebellious and has to just accept it. Meanwhile in the rebel ending, while Frank may be one of the 'tough men' bringing about a violent revolution, there is at least no reason for Kim to change her look besides donning the rebel symbol. Just an interesting detail.

There is no true happy ending here, in Reformers you basically made your daughter hide herself and live miserably, and in endings where you help her you doom yourself and family can't come to some kind of decent understanding and is broken, nothing has changed. welp this is depressing.

nah this isnt that depressing because n reformer except the daugther everything else is good so i would say thats an excellent good to bad ratio because like i said except the daughter everything else is well for frank and his family so i believe reformer is the best ending for frank and his family

This game in my opinion has got to be the darkest ending not even a true good ending and I thought beholder 2 was dark with some grouseome scenes, dark dark times

Whether beholder 3 or beholder 2 is darker is kind of a tough question. Beholder 2 has a lot more outright disturbing and screwed up things in it (The happiness for all ending, the supergame, everything about Albert DeSalvo), but it also had far more moments of levity, with comedic scenes being fairly frequent, as well as having at least one uplifting ending. Beholder 3 doesn´t have as much in the way of horrific events, but its atmosphere is a lot more dull and hopeless with barely any levity, not to mention there really isn´t a good ending, just a couple neutral ones with the rest being depressing or just awful.

nah i beleive reformer is best ending because reformer has an amacing good to bad ratio since in there except the daughter everything else is very good for frank and his family

I think that was the intention of the developers. Instead of one obviously good and somewhat idealistic ending, we have several that you can argue about which is better.

the true ending is the bad ending, we know in Beholder 2 that Carl failed, because he is in the game and we had to find out what happened with him, and well not the happy ending we fought for in Beholder 1, and since Beholder 2's happy ending immediately changes the game's world, we already know in Beholder 3 that Redgrave failed. And 3 just doesn't even have a good ending, but we probably will know about it if there will be a 4th game.

True that, now that I'm thinking about it, we were all hoping the previous main guys got at least a good ending but never did, now mentioning of a terrible fate of those before frank, now imagining frank and his family then.

So basically, Reformers are the best ending, Hawks is the 2nd best (atleast there is order). Resistance is the 3rd best (As even though there is a revolution, Frank is OK.) and Family is the worst as frank gets arrested no matter what, basically he is sacrificing himself for his daughter.

I'd say they all seem like they have their pros and cons. Like, Reformers does increase quality of life for many members of the country but also creates massive poverty and wealth inequality. Hawks does create 'order' but also would greatly decrease the quality of life for most of the country as the state becomes even more oppressive. Resistance creates an unstable situation but does have some hope that the rebels could create a freer government if they win (although you never know, as revolutions are tricky business). And while Family is the most sad due to Frank getting arrested either way, it could also be argued to have the happiest outcome for Kim as it can allow her to escape to a hopefully more stable and less oppressive country.

Well if you look at it from what you just said, reformers are the best. Even if the reformers creates a wage gap, that's better than Hawks due to the oppressive state. And yes, the revolution is a gamble but that would give the hardliners a excuse to get rid of the reformers if the revolution fails which results in the Hawks ending but more likely worst due to a revolution. Also, Frank and his family probably gets executed. And btw, happiest outcome for Kim doesn't matter if you're looking at the entire family!

@@tortugi1143 yes.. but we don't know if that got through. And I think they will improve the situation within the country BEFORE they do the travel reform, so as to keep a populace.

@@deflydefly5276 Honestly the reform endings still just seem bad like the others sure for some quality of life increases but in both endings there is more than just a wage gap, there’s still more poverty, more homelessness, and still a system of classes but instead of ‘the people and the state’ it gets replaced with ‘The workers and the elites’. It’s just that capitalism one’s just has more obvious consequences than the other. Because in both reform endings (similar to real capitalism and consumerism) it benefits the wealthy the most.

nah for frank alone i believe reformist is the best ok well maybe not the best but good at the least good because almost all of the things are ok except his daughters change but other then that rest of the things are good

I never liked Sabine. She is so demanding! Someone should tell her to just chill out! Frank is doing his best lady! Also what kind of a mother rat out her daughter and husband?! And they kept calling poor Frank a system rat! He had to do it to protect and provide for his family! You are the true systems rat Sabine!

yeah same, I though at least she can be herself and we can considerate that ending as a "good" ending, but no, all of the endings are pretty bad. Even in the resistance ending you can see on her face that this is not what se wanted. There is no ending which is good for every member of the family and people of the state

Yeah obviously, the Greatest Union basically became a maximum security prison In hawks good ending, did you expect she would still have that style? Most likely not as she would have been imprisoned or shot by authorities on the spot for looking rebellious and her father became way too influential. Frank In this ending looks like he Is the new boss of the Ministry and replaced Stephen Huberts and Lotte Altmann.

It's the language least people will understand (no language family to connect with), but some key words will be understood by most europeans (it's based on european languages) 2. It it, after all, an artificial language, and it gives that feeling, and that's cool

The Reforms or Family Good endings Might be the best For Reforms, yea i guess you do get Brainwashed, but you dont become a villain For Rebellion Prehaps everything will calm down when the Rebellion ends? For Family, I guess id trade my life for my family. For Hawks I guess you become a Villain, but atleast the family doesnt seem that sad. Sucks theres no good endings where everyone Survives Though the Beholder Series is Inspired by George Orwells work (yes the Social-Democrat who criticized all systems including communism and capitalism) Game also seems to be good at criticizing both no?
