OK, the human body does produce acid.The stomach acids are strong enough to burn paper and cause burns in flesh. The only reason stomach acid does NOT digest the stomach in which it resides, is due to thick layers of mucosal lining, which serves to neutralize or halt interaction with the acids. It COULD be hypothesized that the thickened vessels we see on the zombie's head and hands (and probably over their bodies) is lined with this mucosal layer, preventing the acid from digesting the zombie's body. As for how this fluid circulates, I have long believed that vampirism is caused not by viruses but by PRIONS. When the vampire's heart stops (or radically slows down) circulatory duties are taken over by the lymphatic system. IF zombies are also created by prions (or even virii) then the lymphatic system could definitely serve to act as a circulant, powered by muscular contractions, just as lymph is in a living body. THAT explains how vampires and zombies can still function with a non-beating heart.

This is a little off topic. I was watching Daryl 1st season again. Something really struck me more than before with call to Carol. I never thought it would be Rick she is saying. It doesn’t make any since for it to be Rick. I think Carol is saying “Its Back “. I have said this before & I will say it again. I think your theory is right on target. I think she is referencing Ezekiel’s Cancer and I think he has died. You have to listen to her tone and words she uses. “Oh it’s quiet here.” “Its been hard to get use to”. With Ezekiel being Gov & Carol taking Hornsby’s job they would work side by side. This would be great loss to her and would explain why she is upset and she would want to share that with Daryl. By end of last season of original show Ezekiel & Daryl seem closer. I think she would want to share that with someone who cares and knows how much Ezeikel means to her. She really doesn’t have anyone that close to her anymore except maybe Rick’s kids that would still be in Commonwealth.

I was watching the last season of Original show & Notice when the Walkers come into Commonwealth at the end that they were crawling up ladders & picking up rocks to break the windows. I didn't rememeber that so there were already variant walkers in original Show also. It could be that it clicked this time because I have that notion now of Variant walkers in other spin offs.

Stomach acid. Hydrochloric Acid is very stong, it would have no issue melting through flesh and I believe bone as well. The walker is regurgitating said acid which will immediately melt skin and eyes for example on contact.
