Phil has such amazing energy, humor and passion. I know why they made him a trainer, I could listen to him talk audio all day! And that dig on dudes mirror was icing on the cake...Someone get this man a panel! 😂🤣

A great free acoustic improvement is understanding the volume of the room you have. To much volume/air pressure for your size of room will never sound good but folks will still crank it up.. Turning it down and finding a better fit for the sound energy in that room is always a great place to start with acoustic treatment 🔊🔊👍🏼

Hi Phil and Team, An example: When I play audio in lets say pure direct, I enjoy that sound. When I turn on Audessey the sound is processed its likeable and good. I want to Eq my speakers to sound like pure direct for example. How can I achieve that. How do I capture the sound coming out from speakers in Pure direct and then tweak the audessey eq app to match them? I do not even know where to start from but I know what type of sound I am after :D, Any help is awesome. And thanks for 2Khz correction tip, it has taken the in your face vocals away - good good relief :)

Please Dear Audyssey and Sound United Team, let us deactivate the Surround Boost of Dynamic EQ, sitting on a back wall couch the surround and rear heights are awful loud that way!

A question for John Calder ... Wheres your data on MLV working "really really well" as a pressure trap in the pressure zone? In my exp, MLV is far too heavy to adequately resonate enough to attenuate any fundamental or harmonic frequency below 100hz.... Even when completely suspended in EPDM. As im sure you know, we cant really assume a Low Frequency product works "really really well" if the only data we use to justify that statement is restricted to the room that the unit is located in - as chances are good that were dealing within the arena of Small room acoustics , and therefore unable to really get a good idea of its GENERAL efficacy. These rooms are far too small to judge how well a pressure trap performs. We need to test these units in a facility that has enough volume to accept at least one full cycle of 20hz or below. just to clarify - my question is not intended to troll or argue. Im just curious if you have any empirical lab based data to back that statement up? because MLV has never performed well for me, and I've used it dozens of times thank you

If you’re a Bose guy, reducing first reflections would be the opposite of what the speaker is trying to do.

Conversation advising on how to obtain good-sounding audio has terrible-sounding audio. On the one hand... does it matter? On the other hand... how much can you trust people who apparently don't give a sh*t about how they present themselves?

There is so much misinformation about acoustics. How can early reflections simultaneously be fast enough to be integrated by the ear AND “smear detail” and “muddy imaging”? Affecting frequency response and tonality maybe due to interference. Just goes to show these “experts” just parrot the canon.

I spent ten years as a US Navy submarine sonar tech so I can tell you the problem with early reflections is based on science. Your abliity to locate an object in space is based on the timing difference between both ears. Just like sonar techs use the timing difference between multiple microphones to shoot torpedoes at things. In our listening room, direct sound from the left speaker has to travel about 11 feet to reach my left ear. The reflected sound off the left wall has to travel about 18 feet. At sea, level sound travels 1100 feet per second. So the difference in arrival time is approximately .0064 of a second. If the difference in arrival time is small, and the amplitude is similar, it is difficult for the human brain to differentiate between the sound bouncing off the walls and the sound coming from the speaker. On sonar scope, the line on the graph would appear thicker and depending on the amount of timing difference (sounds bouncing off the ocean floor), you would often see a secondary line. This is what makes the center image seem less focused. Room treatments reduce the amplitude of the reflections to the point where your brain ignores them. This is one o the reasons why they are utilized in most recording studios and concert halls.
