How did you get so wise at such a young age, sweetie? (I'm an old granny who loves your channel and has watched every single video and learned a lot from you.) You have that baby however you want to and don't let anybody push you around about what you "should" do. Do what is right for your baby, for you, and for your family.

By reading these post, my opinion might not be welcome, but I feel it’s most important to be informed. I know everyone is advocating for home birth, but as a nurse I feel that you really need to understand the risks involved. Questions like, how long would it take to get to a hospital if there were issues? Questions like should your first time giving birth be in a home setting since you really have no clue how your body is going to respond to child birth? I know so many people have their opinions on how wonderful a home birth is, I personally have seen the after affects on how home births can cause potential life threatening, life ending consequences. As a pregnant mom you spend so much time eating right, not smoking, not drinking, staying stress free for the good of your baby, but then thinking that it’s best to have a child at home where there is no life saving equipment when things go wrong. A baby can have brain damage in minutes without oxygen. Life altering forever. I am not trying to scare the heck out of you but just giving you some facts. Check out your local hospital and see if they have alternative birthing rooms where you could have a doula, or a midwife in a relaxing environment where you can have a beautiful experience without as much risk. I love what you do and just sharing my opinion and my heart to you. Most important educate yourself on both sides. So excited for you and Josh on this new wonderful adventure. Children are a blessing.❤️

My granddaughter planned a home birth.. had a picture perfect pregnancy and after way to many hours at home she was taken to the hospital and delivered a stillborn… That was two years ago and she is still not healed from her experience… I am not against home birth.. I just realize from personal experience that they are not all picture perfect and that doesn’t seem to be spoken about enough 😢

Having the right midwife make all the difference. That being said, no one should ever birth in a place they are not comfortable with. Education on our options is key. I have had many homebirths and a couple hospital births. All were good experiences because we were educated in our choices and chose our birth team accordingly. We believe in prayer,so we did alot of that as well.

@@lora1718 , I am so sorry for your loss💔 That is heartbreaking. Every loss is tragic ,regardless of the hows and whys. My sister in law lost her precious baby at 38 weeks from a doctor prescribing her a medication not intended for pregnant women. The loss wad so hard on our whole family.

@@lora1718 my heart breaks for her and I know it will take time for some healing but I know she will never forget. Your childs death is real and serious trauma. As a mother that lost my third child when he was 12 1/2 I would suggest ongoing counseling because it is important for both parents and family to recieve some kind of healing so you can live and not just wander from day to day. I hope she has been able to go through all the processes of grief. I send them hugs to the very depths of their hearts.

As a NICU nurse I totally agree. Unfortunately I have seen too many devastating results of a home birth. I get the idea of a beautiful home birth but there are times when it just doesn't go well or "as planned." The ultimate plan is what works for you to have a healthy baby and mama!

Pre made baby food i only bought for the convenience of having it in my diaper bag. When we were home all of my kids ate what we ate. When you get a chance becky go to your local supermarket and look at the baby food. Stages 1 and 2 are a little bland stage 3 you could probably cook all of that yourself, and healthier. It's sooo easy to make and adapt food for your baby! Similar to the way you already prep food. You can buy tiny noodles and add them right to your own sauces with vegetables in them or on the side. Super simple!

TK so great to hear about the school progress of your youngster. All four of ours had dyslexia in two or more areas of the four. We decided to homeschool so that family time would not be limited to doing homework. We wanted our children to have a childhood. Note: The two most affected, one has a degree in mechanical engineering and the other is a licensed PTA and works with special needs children.

@@ivyblack8145 Same here. I absolutely hate family channels, as it almost always comes across as a breach of privacy on the child's part. It comes across as taking advantage of their children and purposefully exposing them to creeps for the money. It's sick!!

@@twinkiestar6538 oh, it's 100% using your child for likes. People just will twist it any way to justify it, especially by saying their child says they are fine with it. Your 5 year old has no idea what that means and the long term effects. Plus, there are so many awful people doing things with even innocent pictures, it's not worth the risk. This was such a fun Q&A, Becky! I think your baby plan is perfect. Also, as far as baby items go, and your sharing about having a minimal nursery area, I think a good pack & play with changing table, baby wrap (I use a Moby for the first 4 months, then transition to the Ergo), baby blankets for nursing & spit up, a small portable baby swing, and the basics like clothing & diapers, are the basic necessities needed. And as far as you sharing about baby food, how your mom did it is also how I have done it. I might make up extras like batch cook a bunch of sweet potatoes, but for the most part the baby always eats whatever we’re eating. This is such an exciting time for you guys 😍😍😍

I’m a retired pediatrician, mother of 2, homeschool proponent, and recovered control freak. As for birth situation, try not to have your heart set on anything. Stuff happens. I REALLY wanted vaginal deliveries, but I don’t have the pelvis for it. My oldest was sick after birth and complications after the second c section shut down the option for a third child. I am blessed to have two wonderful boys and the birth situation, it turns out, is completely overshadowed by the years of memories with them. ❤️

I completely agree! I had my first two naturally at a birth center with a midwife. I wish my last two could have been that way. With my third my placenta abrupted when my water broke. So that really threw my birth plans out the window as I ended up with an emergency c-section hours later. I tried for a vbac with my 4th but after my water broke, I still hadn’t gone into labor 24 hours later. In my heart I knew I needed a c-section and I’m so glad I didn’t stick to my desire for a vbac. I had the surgery and it turns out if I had gone into labor my scar was so thin that I would have had a uterine rupture. God took care of me that day and I’m so thankful for four healthy babies even though not all of my births were what I wanted!

I really, really wanted vaginal deliveries too but my babies haven’t been able to fit out. I’m 5’2 with a curvier, athletic build but my pelvis is pretty narrow and my babies are chunky! But God is good. I think the BEST advice is to have your birth/postpartum/breastfeed preferences but keep in mind that your needs and baby’s needs can certainly change what you pictured in your mind. And that’s okay! Some babies can struggle with nursing and your next might be a total natural. Do your best to go with the flow. :)

With the baby stuff - I had my baby at the start of Covid and we had barely anything (shops closed, deliveries were taking weeks) and that taught me that you can definitely have a minimalist attitude to newborns. The only thing I swear by is an ergo baby or a wrap to carry baby - hands free is a must with a newborn!

I agree about giving up expectations, but I also highly suggest, and I think would be wise to have somewhat of a birth plan. Especially for after your baby arrives. Your birth plan (that you submit to the hospital and keep a copy with you). Like with gardening, if you have somewhat of a plan, you're prepared, and your garden is much more likely to be a success. Having somewhat of a plan in Parenthood, in my opinion, bring security to both parents and children. Example, Do you want your husband to be a part of your birth experience?. Do you want to snuggle baby if there is no emergency, and the hospital protocols (weighing/bathing etc) will have to wait and hour or two? Do you want the goop put on your baby's eyes right away? Is it necessary for you personally? It wasn't necessary for me, so I chose that they did not put the goop on my baby. I also wrote in my personal hospital plan, that my husband would cut the cord and give our baby her first bath. This was such a special time, and we cherish the photos. I also chose to wear my own clothing, not a hospital gown. I felt much more relaxed. I also wrote in my plan who I wanted at the birth. my husband and I also chose what testing/vaccinations we agreed on and which ones we did not want for our daughter. Every time there was a question, I heard the nurses referring to my plan. I am so grateful for this plan. It helped me and my family so much. It have us peace and assurance. I have had one long and hard, yet beautiful hospital birth, and 7 beautiful, incredible, peaceful and safe home births. Both experiences were safe and beautiful. Your experience will be beautiful as well!

RE BABY FOOD: My sister kept a little food mill on the counter and her babies ate whatever she cooked. I think the only alterations she made was taking babys portion out before heavily seasoning anything. I tried to copy that, but had more babies and a lot faster, lol! So while I also fed my babies whatever we were eating, it wasn’t the wonderful scratch meals my sister was capable of creating daily.

I had twin boys and did this same thing. I patted myself on the back that I was introducing my babies to all different flavors and developing a sophisticated palate. LOL. Then the toddler years came, with new independence, and they became fussy. I think just on principal. They are now both 18, and one is still almost completely adverse to vegetables. But I don't regret anything. I'm still glad I made homemade baby food. One of the things my babies LOVED, LOVED was guacamole, and avocado is super healthy for them. Good luck and congratulations!

A lot of people don't realize in a lot of countries women have babies at home. Still! I think it's great and good for you for homeschooling. I used to be totally against it, now I have a 4th and 2nd grader and the education system sucks. I teach a lot at home myself because I'm worried they aren't getting a good education and they are leaps and bounds above the other kids in their grade. In fact my 4th grader scored the highest on some test they gave them out of the whole school!

I am a retired Newborn ICU RN and worked there for 30+ years. I know home birth has improved greatly over the years but I have to say I have seen too many home births go bad and both mother and baby end up hospitalized. I am happy you are opting for a hospital birth since everything is there for a healthy birth and for emergencies should the need arise. I know the majority of home births are successful but there is always the possibility of problems and even though the nurse midwives are equipped to handle some of these emergencies, the extra hands and equipment of hospital birth just plain makes sense to me. Hospital births can also have problems but rest assured the staff is there as are the specialists that might be needed. This is just my 2 cents worth.

We realized that our home was happier if we found our own normal. They are 21 now and they are just as amazing today as they were the day they were born. Also, I heard you say a sunny spot, so you already know that they love the sun! Peppers 🌶 do not require the water that other plants like cucumbers and tomatoes do, they thrive in a more drought based environment. Not totally dry, but I’d say less than half the water that you’d give tomatoes and etc. So if you can, plant your peppers in a very sunny area, close together, and by themselves, so that they can have their own watering orders. If you get enough rain, then you may not need to water them. I fertilize them twice a Summer, and they do great!! Also, pick any leaves off the bottom of the plant, as well as fruit, until it’s larger and established. Pick your peppers 🫑 often to tell your plant’s to keep producing. I hope this helps. You’re doing absolutely amazing for only starting a couple of seasons ago!👍

With my first pregnancy we planned a homebirth, I went over 41 weeks and induced labor with a "midwives brew" smoothie. It helped kickstart a very very slow labor and I didn't know my son was flipped and twisted in the womb. Took 16 hours to start pushing and I couldn't push him out due to his position and my exhaustion. Went to the hospital and had to have an emergency cesarean due to his heartrate decelerating. During COVID we had our second baby and because of the lockdowns, having zero family in the state, and living over an hour away from the closest VBAC hospital, we had to have a repeat cesarean. Pregnant with our third in 4 years now and we will have another repeat cesarean. I live in WA state too, and there are a lot of COVID restrictions still in hospitals. We still don't have family here and my local hospital doesn't allow VBAC attempts. I consider myself a very holistic and naturally minded Mama. We have a farm and raise our meats and I like gardening and scratch cooking. I wish I could have a homebirth, I also am all for having supported and informed births. However someone wants to give birth, as long as they are respected, informed, and supported in their birthing decisions that is all that matters! I do have to say, that having a C-section the first time was very traumatic. I had to give myself grace, stop being mad at God, and tell myself (like you mentioned) that "all birth is natural! there is nothing unnatural about childbirth" I know we were created for unmedicated births, and I wish America didn't scare women at every turn about the "pain" and "horrors" of childbirth because it is such a beautiful thing. Woman are so powerful and I feel like our culture strips us of that power. I loved my midwifery care and I have had to retrain my brain to stop viewing all Doctors as "bad guys" and learn to be respectful yet firm in my wishes, asking questions, and also having my research done to advocate for myself. I had a doula and I couldn't recommend one enough! I guess I'll stop typing now since I've left you a novel! Take care whoever read this!

I am a RN/NP. I had three children all w a midwife in the hospital. My third was born w respiratory difficulties and was transferred to a nicu at birth. I think it is so hard to know how things will go and it is safer to have a hospital birth if any complications arise unexpectedly. So often everything goes well but better to be prepared and somewhere they can help immediately if needed

When I was pregnant with my son, I had hyperemises gravidarum. It was like having the worst stomach flu you can imagine for nine months. I gained no weight when pregnant. In fact, I lost 35lb. I had to be hospitalized for hydration therapy once. Some of the things I found that did help 1] never let yourself get too hungry. Eat something every two hours, even if it’s just some crackers. 2] find your “ go to” meal that gives you energy and helps fill the void. For me it was peanut butter and grape ( had to be Welch’s grape) jelly - again, every two hours. You will find what works for you. Good luck and best wishes!

Same for me. I lived off pb and grape jelly. After I initially lost 15 lbs, I was given anti nausea meds which helped a little but the only thing that helped was birth, ha! I say tour your a hospital, find an independent birth center and get a tour, and meet with several midwifes if you’re not already set on the one you have. I would have my babies at home time and time again. A quick thinking, knowledgeable and well prepared midwife will be invaluable in most emergency situations that could arise. Xo

Becky, we can't thank you and Josh enough to show us all the dreams you have and the realization of those dreams! As far as the home birth, I took pictures of my girlfriend's home birth. She was always so thankful for the photos because there is a lot happening that you can't really see (like the crowning for example). Home birth with a midwife was SO peaceful and such a tender, touching moment. Based upon all that I saw, this was much better than the hospital environment. One major reason my girlfriend opted for home birth was that she felt that she wanted to know WHO was handling her baby at all times and it was much more comforting for the baby to be 100% near her momma from the moment of birth since that is already shocking enough to the baby. Hope that these points help you make your own personal decision. I know my friend NEVER regretted her home births (she had two naturally - using teas and walking/pool/ball to help with labor). God bless you. Thanks also for all the tidbits of info on you and Josh! Y'all are my husband's and my favorite couple on YT!

Honestly speaking, your decision to avoid making your baby into a product elevates you even higher in my esteem. Too many people treat their children as content, like-bait ect, and even as someone who never wants to have kids, that breaks my heart to see happen. Kids deserve privacy, just like everyone else. Highly recommend talking through all the possibilities with Josh and your Doula so they understand how you might feel in different situations that come up and can support you. You will not need about 80% of the stuff people tell you to get for your baby (I learned this from 8 years of nannying). Re: Sourdough - My starter died several times after I kept trying to get my own culture going (would go good for a couple weeks but then eventually just mold over). I got some starter from a friend of my mum's and started keeping it in the fridge, feeding once a week instead of daily. Now the culture seems to be strong enough that I can actually neglect it for several weeks in the fridge, and it always comes back after a feeding! I'd say give it another shot and if you think you killed your starter, unless it has visible mold growth then it can come back to life after a few feedings. A layer of liquid (hooch) is fine - fuzzy mold or discolouration though means toss it.

Paramedic opinion here...if you want the experience of a home birth I would look into hospitals that have a birthing center very close or connected to the hospital. It's not home, but it's definitely not hospital-ly. The plus is having all hospital services right there should you need it. I've been called to home births gone wrong and it's traumatic all the way around. But of course that your and yours husband's decision to make.

Love your birth plan. I had two C sections- the 1st not planned the second planned. You never know- but you keep that mindset its perfect.

Years ago, I used to milk goats once a week, to give a friend a day off. I got to keep the milk for that day. I made the most wonderful goat cheese! I always hated goat cheese, but made from fresh milk, it didn’t have that “goaty” flavor. I also made goat milk soap. It was great to have the soaps to give as gifts. I am so enjoying your videos! Praying you have an easy labor, safe delivery and a very healthy baby! Hope we get to see the baby at least once in a while. So looking forward to seeing the changes you make at the new property. I live in Tucson Arizona, gardening in the desert is a real challenge! I absolutely love the PNW! It is such a great climate for growing things!

I was a labor and delivery nurse for 12 years and I saw horrible home birth stories. If that is what you choose just make sure you have a midwife who will not hesitate to call an ambulance if needed. Time during delivery sequences can mean life. Yours or baby’s. I am also pregnant right now, due in late September and we live on the tiny island of Kauai with limited resources. If I need extra things my baby and I get flown to Oahu. Just be careful.

As a mom of 2 I would suggest doing your post partum meal prep a bit earlier. With my first I did it in my 8th month and it was a very exhausting day! With my second I did it in batches over month 6/7 and a little in month 8 and it was way easier!!

I didn’t have kids until my 30s either 😊. Don’t feel alone, during my 1st pregnancy I was nauseous all the way up to the last 2 months. -Had *NO* problem with nausea during my next pregnancies.

Funny how each pregnancy is different 😅 I was only nauseous maybe week 6-12 with my first. Second one a bit less in the first trimester but nausea came back mildly in the third trimester 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️😅

So cool my sweet husband and I were almost the original online match up, we've been married 20 years in November. We met online it was an mIRC chat group, my folks thought I was crazy, it was definately not the norm. It worked for us, we have two beautiful children together and a wonderful life. Thanks for sharing yourself!

I have 2 kiddos, both naturally delivered. I will say, I worked my factory job while pregnant w my first & the delivery was much easier than my second. I think from me working out / constantly moving while pregnant w my first. It's the one thing I recommend to do. I'm so excited to watch yr journey & yr new home is beautiful. Congrats on all the things ! Xo

Constantly moving definitely makes for a fast labor. Too much sitting gives a cervical lip (at least for me).

Congratulations on your expanding family!! So excited for you! My brother and his wife had a midwife and home birth for both of their daughters, and they were very happy with their experience. But as with so many things in families, what works for one, may not be right for another. No matter which way you go, I'll be praying for a smooth delivery!

It's a really good idea to not be rigid with what you need/do in your labor. I was really disappointed when my first birth turned into a C-section because I was so set on vaginal, unmedicated. It took me like 6 months to not obsess about it anymore. While I still want an unmedicated labor for my current pregnancy, I know that it's not always possible. Going for a VBAC! We will see. Can't wait to see what your journey looks like!

Becky, birth is such a personal situation. As a woman you have a beautiful internal knowing (intuition) that will guide you if you listen. Other people's experiences can be a real road block especially when you don't know any more about their life except in this small comment section. The best thing you can do is learn about how our bodies work in birth. Talk to care providers and read from books that talk about birth from a physiological point of view. Then make the decision that fits for you and your life best. We have been fed so much fear about birth and so many women go into the experience wallowing in that fear. So do the research, watch birth videos, follow Doulas and private midwives and the. You'll have a more well rounded Understanding rather than just from a maternity system pov. Birth is beautiful, postpartum care is vital. You are amazing xx

All of this 👆🏻 Knowledge of what the body does during labor really helps you make decisions on what interventions you want or don't. It's also really helpful to research the impact different interventions have on things to do with the baby afterward (like breastfeeding, if that's something you're wanting to do), and also your own recovery.

I had kinda the same mindset with my first baby! I didn’t want to have a birth “plan,” I just wrote out a few “birth wishes” but kept an open hand. I wanted an unmedicated vaginal birth but knew that things happen and ultimately wanted a healthy birth and healthy baby. That mindset worked in my favor because our son turned breech between weeks 39 and 40 (very uncommon!), and I went into labor with a breech baby before we could attempt to turn him. I had an urgent C-section but it went so so well and it was a wonderful experience!! No trauma. Fast forward 19 months later and I had our second son, unmedicated VBAC in a hospital! I’m pregnant with our third son and planning another unmedicated hospital birth, but only because a birth center or home birth is not reasonably available to us. The closest birth center is not allowed to do VBAC’s, and then our military insurance only covers home birth if a Certified Nurse Midwife is the provider, and there’s no CNM’s in our area, which is a bummer. It would cost several thousand dollars to hire a midwife and we just don’t have that kind of money, and with Tricare the fees are so low for covered births. When I was pregnant with our first son, as an RN I thought I’d probably never be comfortable with the idea of home birth for myself, because I know of what can go wrong in labor/birth. But over the last few years my mindset has changed and the truth is that birth is not supposed to be a medical event and as long as you have a good team, feel safe birthing at home, and are a good candidate, then home birth can be an amazing option! Maybe one day I’ll get to do it, or at least have a birth center birth. But as both a C-section and VBAC mom, I can say that both my births so far have been beautiful even though they happened in very different ways! My advice is to listen to positive birth stories, both ones that have gone just the way they wanted and ones that ended up unexpectedly. Just because something is unexpected doesn’t mean it is negative! (Like my C-section.)

I have a youtube channel and I typically call myself a stay at home mom, but I at love that you termed it a "work at home mom". KZfaq is hard work! I don't know how you put out so many videos each week. You really do have a full time job. You should be proud of all the work you have put into your channel. As a mom I want to encourage you that no one knows your body and your baby best except you. People will have good intentions and give lots of advice, but take everything with a grain of salt and do what your gut tells you is best for you. Congratulations again! Being a mom is truly such a blessing! 😀

Regarding baby food, I can't remember what KZfaq channel I saw this on, but they used their freezer dryer and powdered any food they wanted to use for their baby then just added water. It made it even more convenient than commercial baby food, but I agree with you that babies can pretty much eat what we eat with a few exceptions. Btw, you look beautiful Becky, and are going to be an amazing mother!❤️

If you plan to continue to garden with a young baby (good for you!) make sure you look into getting a really comfortable baby carrier- or a few depending on your needs! Baby wearing really increases the amount of things you can do with little babies. You might even have a local baby wearing group with different carriers you can try out before you buy.

Strongly recommend looking into Babyled Weaning. Basically it teaches you how to feed baby the same foods you are eating and how to cut and cook things for baby. No baby food purees involved, baby eats and learns food, learns how to manage their gag reflex which is extremely important to avoid choking. Also I was high risk with my babies so had them in the hospital with an epidural cause my pain tolerance is terrible. I would not have been able to do homebirth.

We did a mix of baby led weening and purées. It’s totally worth it, but a little scary initially with the gagging.
