This weekend, we had power outages, including water. It was going to be my first attempt in a long time to do some canning. Thx to my husband for buying us water, I did 2 days of canning peaches and tomatoes, despite no electricity or running water. I'm pretty proud of all I accomplished. Thank you, Becky, for your inspirations.

I also, was without water, power, cell service from Thursday evening until Saturday late day. And I am still under a boil water advisory. I am about an hour outside of Detroit in Brighton, MI. Despite these factors, today I defrosted my freezer and had enough chicken carcasses to make approximately 20 quarts of chicken stock. I used my camp stove and figured that the water I used, boiled for long enough to be safe. I will be pressure canning it all tomorrow. Thank goodness for propane and a camp stove.

Corn: When you have silks on your corn, shake your tassels so the pollen falls down onto the silks to pollinate and helps produce your corn.

Hello, i live in an apartment and was not allowed to have anything on my balcony because they were doing painting so i planted my corn in my apartment i know quite funny! I did not know about the tassels until i looked it up and i actually took the tassels and rubbed them on the silks to pollinate! I did not know any of this so thank you so much for your helpful advice!! I do have two stalks that grew and have corn on them!

For the cardiac arrest, try cayenne pepper tea and putting a pinch under the tongue when going to bed, fresh garlic, onion and ginger pure grinded twice a day is helpful. Lemon water, little exercises, sleeping early, having enough rest, plant based diet, trusting only in God,self control. They sound so cheap and simple, but believe me you'll really thank God at last.

I come from Minnesota, aka one of the big corn growing states. The life cycle of corn is, it grows, it tassles(aka flowers), gets pollinated via wind and insects, then it grows the ears of corn seeds after it has been pollinated. So don’t despair!! You will get corn off your plants yet!

Corn produces separate male and female flowers, with the male flowers, called tassels, sitting right at the top of the plant. Up here they can catch the wind, enabling the pollen to be carried off in the breeze. The female flowers are located further down the plant and are what will eventually form your ears of corn.

From a farmer. Plant your corn further apart.. they are way to close and the roots were fighting eachother so all of its energy was in the roots and not in producing cobs/seeds. I plant about 12 inches apart. Also they need consistent watering especially in a raised bed. I planted about 100 seeds directly from packet to ground and got about a 90% germination. Got 12 points of corn canned from it plus weeks of fresh corn on the cob for dinner and gave a away a lot as well!

Just a suggestion for next year. Try doing an arch trellis with hog panels for some of the climbing plants, in between the walk ways connecting the beds. Plant Plants such as cukes, pole beans, smaller melons, butternut squashes and pumpkins. It would also look amazing with Nasturtiums. Looks like you might need a wagon too 😂. You have an amazing garden and there are endless possibilities!!! ❤

Hey Becky, the tassels on top of your corn is what pollinates to form the corn. So you wouldn’t see any corn forming until after it tassels. It pretty interesting to read about how corn grows.

Becky if you ever want to make "bunuelos" a thin crispy Mexican Christmas treat, save the husks from the tomatillos. Bunuelos are avery thin tortillas fried then sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. The tomatillo husks are put in water to boil, this is the water you will use when making the masa "dough" it will make the dough extra stretchy a good thing since you want to pull the dough thinner than you can roll it. I learned this secret from my late mother in law, when I lived in Mexico. These are delicious and have the taste of Christmas. I do hope you try making them. Until next time much love. 💖💖💖

I’m a newbie to your channel and I’m loving your content. I don’t know what it is about harvesting tomatoes and zucchini’s that just brings back those beautiful memories with my grandparents 😊 Such a blessing to be able to share what you’ve been able to harvest!

You ARE a worker!! So enjoy seeing your thriving garden, which brings back memories of when I was young on a farm and my parents had a garden. Produce was shown and won ribbons at the local county fair, as well at the Ky. State Fair. Thank for your time in sharing all the varieties and hearing your thots of past, present and future gardens.

For someone who lives in a tropical climate that gets good amount of rain and sun year-round, I am perpetually curious about how everyone on the other side of my climate do when 4 seasons come. So when I stumbled into your channel Becky, it was like a dream come true to be able to witness spring, summer, fall and winter and see how you and your family transition between those seasons, especially in your gardening journey.😍❤ To be able to witness as you start planting until harvest, preservation and then consuming all those produce that you grew from seeds, sometimes I wish I live with your bumblebees so I could enjoy the beauty of the gardens everytime everything blooms and produces.😅😍 When I was a kid, my ultimate dream was to have a small piece of land, with a meandering creek across, and lots of fruits and vegetables that I planted and will continually harvest to feed my family.😍 Because of you, Becky, that long-forgoteen dream of mine was awakened and I realized I wanted it now, more than ever. Nope, not even a want, but a need.😅❤ So please continue uploading, don't get tired sharing to us a glimpse of your wonderful life, because you inspire so many people with your talent, patience and kindness.😍 P. S. Can I live under your garage and be your helper in the garden?😂 I love to potter around the garden, and wouldn't mind at all if I am left alone to tend to everything the garden needs.😍😁😅

Hi I really enjoyed reading your comment 😊 Maybe that sounds like a stupid question to you but it comes from someone with 4 seasons sooo, can you really just plant anything anytime and harvest all year round? Do you even have to preserve anything when can just grow it?🙈

@@___palomino___4677 Hello.☺️ We literally can do harvest all year round, especially with how there is perpetual sun and rain.😅 That's why I am so curious about how other people, from across the globe, do it with just a small amount of spring and summer months of sun. But of course, you have to take into consideration cold crops like the cabbages and carrots that loves the cold, we have high mountains that is colder and gets fog, but never snow, who supplies fresh veggies all year.😁 Tropical fruits are abundant too. Of course there are specific fruits that only blooms and fruits in its own month/season, but there are perpetual fresh produce everyday of every year.☺️ Sometimes I think we are being too spoiled by fresh produce, it's amazing to me to see how Becky turns her produce into canned food and save a lot of money because of it.❤️ I am actually on youtube to see how other people eat and consume food that has four seasons, so very unlike us here in a tropical climate.☺️ But on that note, I have not seen or know of any one that does homesteading like Becky does, here in my country. We do have people that has acres and acres of land, but it's usually for farming families that produces rice, sugarcanes and the like, but not like real homesteading. And I dream of someday doing just that, real homesteading, if finances and opportunity comes, that is.😁😅❤️ Sorry, my explanation got away with me but I hope I answered your question.😅

Becky! Love your videos! Just want you to know that you can shell the pinto beans and eat them fresh cooked as well - yes they taste different from the dried but they are delicious! I live in East Texas and we love them fresh when when we can get them in the summer and you can also freeze them fresh and cook later!!! Try it!

I recommend saving some Jade bean seeds. My family is a long term homesteader in Arkansas, the last 2 years its been pretty difficult to get the jade green bean seeds without paying for over priced ones. They are one of our family favorites as well. I'm not sure if its just our area that's having trouble or what. Its just if you have them save some, I know you are excited over seed starting and I'm all here for it. Plus using your own seed adapt that much quicker to your climate. I've always wanted to make my own heirlooms.

I love love love watching your channel. I feel like we are totally friends 😊 We have two Gorilla brand wagons that I use ALL THE TIME. They are excellent for harvesting in the garden. If you were to get one, I’d highly suggest the one with mesh wire instead of the plastic dump one. The metal wire one turns into a flatbed which also comes in handy…-and it doesn’t fill with water when it rains!
