Old timers in Wisconsin used to say that snow in the oats is “poor man’s fertilizer “. Pretty sure back in the day, all farmers considered themselves poor

I like the disc in option. I think most no-till fields need to be disced lightly about 3-4 years.

I was surprised to see in North Carolina a farm seeded oats in the fall like winter wheat. They get a little snow but the ground never freezes. Guess i better start my peppers also😊

Hi Ronda, thank you for another calm and peaceful glimpse into Farm Life here in my home state. One of my Uncles had a 99 acre farm near Alma, Mi. that I visited a few times as a child. I helped with Haying one time, but that was all. I was very interested in mechanical stuff so I went into the automobile industry early on. But I think if had it to do over again, I'd choose farming. I don't know if I could handle dairy, but just about everything else you folks do on your farm is very interesting to me. So I try to "see" myself doing some of the things I see you folks doing. Thank you and your family for allowing me to see what I missed and I eagerly await your next video. ben/ michigan

How do you boys know how to do all these jobs? The beans are great. Love making my own bbq beans from dry. Nice to have them on hand ready to go. I think what’s so great about this channel and the family is the do it yourself skill. From fixing and animal care to cropping and gardening right into tue kitchen and poultry. See you on next weeks video.

Your cereal rye looks good, the rye grass will make for good fertilizer. Well that's shame on your tire, Sanders sure isn't afraid to get into the truck engine and work on it, great encouragement for a parent. Your beans looks good, I love beans and their healthy for you. Enjoy what you all are doing there, thanks for sharing and I hope you have a blessed week.

So if the oats are sprouting then things are good if you don't get snow right? I hope it works...Thanks for update... I am south of Reno, Nv and the weather was so nice a few weeks ago and the problem is folks get the feeling to plant. Big mistake to put out things that are not cold tolerant. The stores have nursery items for sale already, ie: peppers, and the like and it's a waste of time if you dont have a warm place to put them. I don't put a thing in the ground here until Mothers day... Today 3/24 it was 32 in the morn and the clouds are down over the mountain tops and falling... Not time yet... Good videos from your place.

The oats can handle the cold and snow. Way too early to be thinking about planting the garden. I lean towards planting after Memorial Day or even the first part of June. Especially with sensitive plants like peppers and tomatoes. Thanks for watching!

We did not have a Seed Drill. We planted oats and alfalfa seed with an Endgate Seeder back in the 60's and 70's. (Had to be aware of what direction the wind was blowing, and how hard.) It was an educated guess, to make sure you had good coverage. Once the oats and alfalfa seed were seeded, then we would lightly disk them in. The seed depth was not as accurate that way as it was with a Seed Drill. But we always seemed to have a good crop of oats and alfalfa. Mackenzie and her snacks!!! If you don't post anything until after Easter,...you and your family have a Blessed Resurrection Day!!!

We sow a mixture of annual ryegrass, clover and winter vetch. In May we mow it and then sow corn. My peaches and nectarines are starting to bloom. In a few days you will see if the buds are turning brown. Behind a man's success there is always a woman.
