Күн бұрынMultiversus are a really prevalent trend in cinema right now. A trend most recently seen in DC's latest box office flop, The Flash, and Spider-Man : Across the Spiderverse. Multiverses are a device that allows us to feed into nostalgia. Nostalgia can be good for the soul but it also feeds into our worst desires and instead of being fed tonally consistent storytelling in main stream movies, we're being fed cameos, easter eggs, references, winks at the audience from the writer/director, with not a whole lot of substance underneath. Sometimes you don't need substance, but this is just... kind of the worst.

At some point, Disney has to run out of live-action remakes. What they do next after that scares me because they clearly have no moral guidelines to what they'll do. And if a Spider-Verse live-action remake happens in my lifetime, my faith in society wouldve disappeared by then.

Thankfully Sony probably has more power in that regard. As long as Disney can leech off of the innovations other studios and filmmakers, they’ll always have a new reason to go back to the well and do another remake, even if they’ve remade it already.

I think Spiderverse handled the references/cameos really well. Unless you have nerds that freak out about it while watching, I don't think it takes away from the story at all. When the movie was over I had already forgotten about them and just couldn't stop thinking about how badly I want to see the end of the story. Luckily the theater I was in didn't have rude people cheering and being loud for the cameos.

Had the similar feelings when the movie ended as well. We go more in depth about the cameos in that film specifically in our review from a couple weeks ago

Honestly great video you got the point across. Your animation point is perfect, the stupid “live action” disney stuff is so meaningless and so obvious it’s just for a cash grab. Like a Moana remake are you kidding me!? That movie isn’t even 10 years old! It’s 7! I wish references was just like you said, if you get it you get it if you don’t you don’t and it’s not so in your face. Also side note about the gay stuff you mentioned, it’s really cool when your representation in film is in there for such a short time that if you blink you miss it and it’s so obvious it’s like that just to get edited out in international releases 🙃 (obviously it’s not all film but mostly just the disney ones) Also if they remake The Iron Giant I swear I’m going to jump out a window.

Warner Bros doesn’t typically go for live action remakes in the blood thirsty way that Disney does so we have a long way to go in that regard

I also like the Last Jedi but it also proves why nostalgia bait will not go away. They literally said move on kill the past and fans hated it lol so Star Wars said alright bring back the previous villain I guess.

I think the moral outrage surrounding the Christopher Reeves cameo is faux, and the actual animosity people feel is just the movie being a middling film. I think you all need this moral panic to feel justified in your biases towards the movie, but its not an actual issue in this use case, it was just not a great film

it’s very frustrating, but it’s not everyone fortunately. These incidents do happen less frequently depending on the film you’re watching. What sucks even more is that it’s not just here. That clip of the whole audience screaming their heads off was in Paris!

@@FilmTheRightThingIf you have one in your area, Alamo Drafthouse saves you a lot of headaches. Yeah the crowd will still react to reveals and such, but it's way more low-key as little mummers versus the outright cheering that would happen at a regular theater. I saw this movie on opening weekend and wanted no distractions 😭
